In all honesty, it's just kinda really expensive to support a 360, PS3, Wii and PSP.

So if push comes to shove, PS3 comes first (online friends). Then 360. Then Wii. Then PSP.

I haven't got it yet-even though I will-purely cos I'm too skint after buying GOW3 and Yakuza3 this week! I WILL be supporting Ubi on this one, though, as it looks both a great game and like they really put some effort into it.

I think the first, shoddy, but OK in bits and bobs first game sold so well because of the lack of anything else to get if you wanted a bit of mature action at Wii launch, though, and that's not the case these days. Now competition from the other consoles is more serious and there IS more choice in the library of Wii games.

I normally think that a demo could have helped sales of third party Wii games too-but this time with it being the only action game, that I can think of, to support Motion Plus that might not have helped that much(though Sports Resort MUST have got a few units out there!). Who vcan say just why mature games seem to be stalling on the Wii. RE4 did fine and WaW sold well after a slow start -which MUST now be Ubi's hope with RS2 or we may see a port to either or both HD console come the eutumn. Who knows, but it's got to nbe getting frustrating that these devs cannot seem to catch a break even when they put in the effort to make the most of what Wii has to offer. RS2 seems to tick every box you'd want it to and yet again we have some awfully slack sales for the game.Pity.

Sometimes its hard to justify shelling out 50 bucks for a Wii game, a game that has last-gen graphics, when there are games for 10 dollars more on PS360 that are technically much more advanced and modern. The game on Wii really has to be amazing and standout to justify purchasing it. Thats why Nintendo games always sell, because they usually are fantastic and standout from the pack of shovelware. I think if maybe devs brought the price down to 40 dollars it would help sales, Wii technology is last gen after all so budgets can't be all that high.

That's for UK-only, so I'd reserve judgment for now. It's not like this game had great brand recognition (most people who played the original didn't like it), and Ubi didn't put much of a marketing blitz behind it (there were a few late-night ads, but it's not like it was sponsoring basketball games like FF).

Most Wii games (even Nintendo ones) don't launch like Halo or COD; they tend to have a longer sales curve at the expense of huge openings. We'll see with RS2. Its success or failure won't be decided in one week or one month. If it does end up totally bombing, it'll be a shame. Ubi really did a good job on it.

It's still odd, even taking into account the odd mature Wii game that has sold better than people imagine but over time, though that mature Wii games either fail to reach the numbers they do on PS360(even WaW figures aren't really on the same level as they were on other platforms with more mature choices available to compete)or just fall really flat.

Sure, the case isn't as open and shut as some commentators would have us believe but, to me, it's still a worry that so many mature(hate the term but it's better than "hardcore", "non casual" or "core" at a push!)fail to light up the sales charts when there's simply so many more Wiis out there than either PS3s or 360s even now. Something, surely, could be done about all this but what the answer is, IDK, more demos on one of the channels(shopping or Nintendo?)or just better marketing for these games? Who knows but if RS2 doesn't sneak up the charts than it's just another one that's slipped through the net, imo, and more fuel to Nintendo's detractors than ever-fair or not.

I can't help feeling there has to be a reason behind the likes of this game, NMH, Zack and Wiki, even WaW and so many others not getting the marketing or support you'd expect on other platforms but I'm damned if I know what it is! So m,any Wiis and, relatively, so few sales-why wasn't, say, DS:Extraction even advertised to such a massive number of potential buyers? Te mind boggles, it truly does. EA didn't push it at all and them and Capcom then both complained about it being the fault of Wii gamers that it and DC failed to sell well! Despite them not marketing them and the fact they released as poor value in saturated(rail shooter) markets Wii gamers got the blame!

OOBOB you are so right and if you look at the commentary above they are just holding out for a HD release. Most of these "hardcore gamers" had to buy the hype game for their system so don't expect their support right away. Now this game is good enough to show to people and get them interested. It's going to be a slow burner like most Wii games.

Also Ubi hurt them selves with the first one and all that shovel ware that had so so game play.

It's a good game and any one who has the cash will get it. Some thing tells me if ubi soft wants to understand the Wii gamers they need to play more res evil 4 wii make.

It's been out for like 2 days, so the low chart ranking for all of March means little. Good luck explaining this to the moron who can't use numbers that wrote this. And it apparently sold out at best buy. Who knows? Regardless of sales it's a quality title. If it doesn't sell another game like dynamic slash will take a place in the genre.

As it stands anyone who is interested in the game should buy it immediately. Even the graphics rival xbox titles. Amazing game, I hope it does why but why cry if it doesn't?

As for RE DC. This was all about Capcom's sh!tty attitude towards Wii owners. They basically said they would give us a true RE gaming experience if we acted like good little sheep and bought their rerelease of a game (RE4) and we did that, and guess what we got? A rail shooter, as a test with the same promise of a true RE gaming experience on the Wii. And can you guess what we got again? You guessed it, another rail shooter.

So your saying Wii owners should just buy into games like sheep? Sorry, we don't think like that. These third parties had their chance at the very begining of the Wii's life to produce quality games and they f'd up. Actually the third parties have released several quality games on the wii and alot of them had bad sales considering the size of the wii's install base.

Even nintendo's only hardcore (at least to me) game, metriod prime corruption did not sell as well the casual stuff did. Last i knew mario and sonic at the olympics out sold metriod 3, if that doesn't tell you casual gamers dominant your system, i don't know what will, wiifit sales maybe.

There are 3 groups that are to blame for the third party software situation, 1st developers, 2nd all the wii owners that buy title after title of garbage shovelware instead of games like zack and wiki and other highly rated third party games.

And lastly nintendo themselves that made the console, so underpowered compared to the ps3, 360, pc that alot of big multiplatform games, can't be ported to the wii do to the hardware being too weak. And not every wii owner having a standard controller doesn't help the situation any either.

So third parties options are either neglect the ps3, 360, pc and focus their biggest games on a system that is known to not have good sales for hardcore games released on it. Or concentrate their main focus on the ps3, 360 and pc, where hardcore games sell fairly well and give the wii little side projects with the wii mote as the main focus, i think their taking the smart route.

They sucked so hard on console but made ok arcade games, now they dont suck any more. They are gone. Midway, made ok arcade games and sucked very hard even on the HD consoles. Gamers wont go for it.

These developers need to understand their name is an IP or brand. True EA doesn't have to worry about this and a few others but Your publishing company can actualy push people away.

@madjedi -- Third parties have released some very good games on Wii. Just no AAA titles. Titles like NMH or MadWorld are niche titles and they put up niche numbers. Ditto Zack & Wiki -- what was the last point-and-click puzzler that sold like GTA?

And that's regardless of the console. The install base talking point is bunk. What, the sales of God Hand or Okami or Metal Arms meant there were no "core" gamers on the PS2? Of course not.

You simply can't stealth release a narrowly targeted game and expect it to sell like Halo. That has been third parties biggest problem.

(The ONLY title that looks like it had a big development budget and will get a big marketing push is MH:Tri. I can't think of one other third party, Wii specific AAA title.)

On the point regarding the hardware, I'm not buying it. If the Wii's tech is just a souped-up version of last gen's GC architecture, that means it's RIDICULOUSLY cheap to develop for (and quicker, too). Games like NMH and Conduit -- both about 400K LTD -- show that you can make a profit on Wii fairly easily (as they both got/are getting sequels). Compare that to Heavenly Sword, whose devs recently said they didn't turn a profit on PS3, even after selling 1.5 million copies!
But back on point...devs KNOW how to make the Wii's hardware scream. They just have chosen to be lazy.

(On Metroid -- I'm a huge fan. But the series has never put up Mario-level numbers.)

Porting it to that "prision punishment device" would actually save it. I am sure you want to root for your favored device, but claiming the Wii is anything but a "Nintendo only" club is just futile. I am sure the sequel controls well and all, but putting it on the Wii was their second mistake. Where is the PS3's Mario 5 that is not casual either. Both of those games sold over 10 million easy. Actually mario kart has sold to 30% of the wii gamers so far at 21 million. It's not because of the name mario kart on the GC did horrible. It's the game play. Hell the PS3s closest top seller is around 6 million and that's call of duty. The game that all PS3 owners agrees is the best ever is Uncharted, ok 3 million sold. You guys can not even support the games you do have. I don't see the HD guys as being that hardcore, or maybe their are only 5 million of you that actually plays games. Devs are getting feed up with the hardcore and to a point it's their own fault. they made this bed and their going to drown in it.

I mean come on FF13 is sitting at 3 million WTF! Because you guys are not really hitting the ball out of the park you may not see wii ports of their exclusives for the move simply because no one thinks the PS3 owners are going to buy it. I absolutely hate the Playstation MOVE, but I have to hand it to Sony, its such a great concept from a business standpoint. When devs and pubs make solid wii games but sell poorly because the wii demographic consists of casuals and senior citizens, they can simply port them to the PS3 thanks to MOVE's mimicry of the wiimote. I have no idea where you have been getting your information, but Nintendo has absolutely no relationship with the Red Steel franchise. Ubisoft is the SOLE owner of RS. Look it up buddy. Oh and since when does a devs word overshadow a publishers word. A dev may have said it will not get ported to another console but I remember another little wii title you may be familiar with called No More Heroes which Suda said time and time again would be exclusive to the wii. You have to realize that Ubisoft is a business. Nothing is more financially viable than to take an already made project and provide it on a system with a much more hardcore fanbase with virtually the EXACT SAME CONTROLLER. I gurantee Red Steel will find its way to PS3 eventually.

To be fair, the game was originally supposed to come out back in November or something, but Ubisoft decided that releasing it against Modern Warfare 2 and its ten-million in unit sales was probably worse than releasing it now.

Well, they could have delayed it again (possibly for the third time, if some of the stories I've heard are true), but in two or three months, it would still be going against Lost Planet 2, Red Dead Redemption, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Mario, etc. They could delay it again, or delay it longer, but it's generally accepted that when a company has delayed a game that many times for that long, there's the risk of alienating the customers who were interested in the first place.

I'm not certain what you mean. It doesn't take that many 'big' titles to match the sales of one 'super big' title. If we assume that God of War 3 (currently at around one mill) will sell lifetime numbers similar to the previous iterations in the trilogy, then it's looking at about the same 4 million that GOW did and that GOW 2 did.

Lost Planet apparently sold about 2.2 million, while Red Dead Revolver sold 1.5. Together, that's 3.7 million. Assuming that their sequels perform comparably to the originals, then that's pretty close to the projected God of War 3 'splash'.

I seem to recall reading that Mario Galaxy's managed to sell 8.5 million. Same assumption as with the others, that's a total of three games eating up over 12 million in sales all on their own, and it seems rather unlikely that Final Fantasy and God of War 3 alone are going to get that number on their own.

That really depends on what the other 3 franchises you're talking about are. If they're each in the ten million plus range, then yes. But if they're each in the 1-2 million expected sales, then probably not, since there are several of those pretty near down the line.

sales dont matter in this sort of discussion. what you need is to be in the spot light. if you are able to stand out from your peers you are more likely to be noticed.

this spring is covered in AAA franchises that gamers are excited about, God of war, mario, splinter cell, Final Fantasy, Bioshock, etc, etc, etc.

those guys are all over the front pages, they are the games being talked about, thats where gamers attention is right now. so of course if you release a game that barely gets talked about because you have these other games make huge "splash" in the industry, you arnt going to perform well. you will have those who just happened to spot the game and go "yeah!" and you have those fans who have been following it... but so many people probably dont even know this game is out simply because of all the other giant franchises around it (in name, not necessarely sales)

But my question is: How exactly is it being treated on the publisher's part? I noticed how 3rd parties tend to not advertise their games properly on the Wii lately. I know the first title was advertised, I've seen many ads for it. But honestly, if they really want their games to sell on the Wii then they need to advertise it as if it were an HD platform title or actually cared for it. In the end, they would make more money.

Ubisoft stated a while back they were only shipping 500k units for this game. Worlwide that doesnt leave many for the UK. No ads either.

Too ba Sony fangirls are too busy talking about a game they care nothing about while games like Bioshock,Dragon age, Blazblue, Borderlands and many other much higher quality 3rd party games are flopping leeft and right on their own console.

It makes me want to laugh at the failures of move and natal all the more. As for the uk charts meaning anything at all.... they don't. Where is the american sales btw? Those are going to make up the bulk of the profit for ubi. You can't say it's failed to capture retail sucess when you don't know 3/4 of the important numbers. It don't work that way. IMO it is very likely that this title will probably sell around 700k by the end of it's first 10 weeks. Most decent FPS titles on wii do.

As for this game getting ported... tough luck wishing for that... it's never getting ported for the same reason tat vs cap is never getting ported. They accomplish all those graphical feats with the wii hardware. Wii hardware is signifigantly different from the architecture of 360 and expecially ps3. They would essentially have to make the game ALL OVER AGAIN. Do you really think a game that failed on the #1 console of this gen is worth completely rebuilding for people who wont even buy it? Then you don't know jack!

If you want a game that's on the wii... buy it when it's on the wii. Don't whine about it being on the wii, you know you have one... just buy it! Stop living in the fantasy world where every single wii game worth playing is somehow going to make it's way to ps360. Wii games sell differently then other games, they have long legs and sell a lot over time instead of a lot at once. Look at reflex the game is passing 1 million and it had no advertising, why the hell didn't i see a commercial for red steel 2? It doesn't have COD HALO or God Of War on its title.
