qface645161d ago (Edited 5161d ago )

wow that was the most random thing to do announce a new piece of hardware out of the blue like that

i need a new DS but im starting to think ill never have a chance of getting one because a new model will be revealed 1 year later

menoyou5160d ago

i hope it will launch with the new pokemon game so baddddd! and if this piece of crap still uses friend codes i will be pissed

qface645160d ago

from what i read at kotaku its supposedly the DS successor and not simply just a new model

possible enhanced graphics etc etc
i still hope its a joke though

i still think its stupid the way they announced it would have made a bigger announcement if it was a surprise

eagle215160d ago

This baby could launch at Christmas for all we know.... :)

Jamegohanssj55160d ago

I actually had to check my pc time to see if it was already April 1st.

This is cool news.

Hopefully Nintendo has taken some of the mega billions that they made off the DS and used it to create something awesome.

mugoldeneagle035160d ago

Unexpected, but sounds cool. I'm still rocking my DS Lite, so maybe this is the upgrade I'll jump on. Still though, I'm skeptical. I mean this is Nintendo we're talking about.

Also, I love this comment from James Mielke:

"Some sluething has revealed the 3DS's first year line-up: Super Mario 3D. Zelda 3D. Starfox 3D. Kirby 3DDD. Metroid 3D. Animal Crossing 3D."

HolyOrangeCows5160d ago

I never would have guessed that 3D would be the main touted feature of a HANDHELD.

Interesting.

smash-brother-105160d ago

e3 just got a whole lot more interesting for me

zeeshan5160d ago

3D in handheld gaming? That's very interesting! I can't wait to see what Sony will offer with PSP2. Gaming industry is so awesome!

II-Reaper-II5160d ago

Sounds true>They probably wanna get the jump on psp2 so when Sony comes out with real 3d theyll be like aaaaa no fair we thought of that first which is bull$hit.

vhero5160d ago (Edited 5160d ago )

Portable 3D gaming is just not possible right now with current technology especially at a price point for the average consumer. I mean the panel for it alone on a device that small will be hundreds of pounds/dollars they would have to retail it at like £500/$700 to make a profit and nobody would pay that for a handheld. 3D technology is too expensive right now. Well this type is anyways.

Nope I refuse to buy Nintendo products.

Microsoft Xbox 3605160d ago

I guess everyone is going 3D except for the incapable Xbox 360.

Christopher5160d ago

3d w/o glasses? The only way I know to do that is with holographics, and I highly doubt they've found a way to do that at a reasonable cost since it's ridiculously overpriced technology as it is.

Also, 3d + me = no buy. I only see out of one eye. I seriously hope this isn't the 'future' of gaming, because I'd hate to miss out on some games awesome games just because I'm now a 'disabled gamer'.

indysurfn5160d ago (Edited 5160d ago )

Notice also after going here click on the other link you will see that is has a tilt function like the IPHONE, but even MORE than that http://www.industrygamers.c... This is great stuff! Also you will see that it is being worked on by THE POKEMON team with SPECIAL attention being given to something.

@ II-Reaper-II Not only did they think of 3d handheld first but they tried it in 1995 with the virtual boy!

Wow look at all the posts by people that didn't read the article.
Yes it is a all new successor!
Yes it is fully backwards compatible.
Yes it has enhanced graphics!
Yes it is cartridge based.
Yes it is to be released within the next year possibly 13 months.
Yes it is confirmed.

I was really hoping nintendo would have done this with the dsi when it was revealed it had support for SD card storage. Perhaps the newer 3ds will allow for games downloaded from the wii to be playable on an SD card.

I would like to be able to play some of the wiiware games or VC games on the go. DSiware is nice but really simple compared to the wiiware and VC. The ability is there but they are holding back.

Maybe nintendo will also allow for their points system to be linked between units. Tied to the user instead of one system or the other. Like sony has with the ps store I can buy with my psp and then also download the same game on my ps3 (like a ps1 classic for example).

Hardware wise it will obviously be up to par with the gamecube level of graphics. Seems the handheld ladder for nintendo has been one generation behind the current console release. Current DS is about at the N64 level so it seems only right the new 3ds will be GC quality.

EvilBlackCat5160d ago (Edited 5160d ago )

With out 3D Glasses ladies and gentleman

Wow i need to get rid of my DS Lite

They are just going to fnck Sony PSP once again
http://ps3.ign.com/articles...

They better hurry and create a PSP3DGo soon because this looks cool
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Hideo_Kojima5160d ago

I would really like one if it has a no glasses required 3d screen.

Can Sony now say "3D too" as they first announced that PS3 will do 3D?

Profe right there that everyone copies I hope people can get over the move copied wii natal copied eyetoy ps3 copied this and that blah blah *pukes*

Dude! Nice find! I love it when people move the rumor-mill stuff to more authoritative places.

I see your business-world rumor confirmation post and raise it an free-access article from IEEE on autostereoscopic 3D displays! According to Google Scholar, at least 112 other papers have cited this one: http://www.soe.ucsc.edu/cla...

And yes, it's from five years ago.

SpoonyRedMage5160d ago

Wowsa, does seem like a random time to announce it or is it a leak?

I can't wait to see it anyway. Looks like the XL was the equivalent of the Micro.

VegaShinra5160d ago

I think Nintendo of Japan made a leak right here. Wouldn't be surprised if it "vanishes" tomorrow. Let's see if NoA confirms it tomorrow.

Report Claims Xbox Is Planning More Cuts Following Studio Closures

"The sudden closure of several video-game studios at Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox division was the result of a widespread cost-cutting initiative that still isn’t finished.

This week, Xbox began offering voluntary severance agreements to producers, quality assurance testers and other staff at ZeniMax, which it purchased in 2020 for $7.5 billion, according to people familiar with the company’s plans. Others across the Xbox organization have been told that more cuts are on the way.

Speaking about the closures more broadly, Booty said that the company’s studios had been spread too thin — like “peanut butter on bread” — and that leaders across the division had felt understaffed. They decided to close these studios to free up resources elsewhere, he said.

Game Pass has not seen the massive growth that Xbox boss Phil Spencer may have been hoping for."

Sense it seems very few remember that human's were around before 2020 the next studio to close will be bethesda based no doubt on the history of.

Fallout 76
Elder scrolls online
elder scrolls blades mobile
fallout mobile
The vr versions of old games

Then you got starfield pissing out cash nothing to cover it.

I doubt tod's team or any sub team is making m$ cash they are no doubt on the chopping block for job cuts

If you can remember before 2020 even fallout 76 was made with over 4 studios.

-Foxtrot3h ago

"Speaking about the closures more broadly, Booty said that the company’s studios had been spread too thin — like “peanut butter on bread” — and that leaders across the division had felt understaffed. They decided to close these studios to free up resources elsewhere, he said"

So what you're saying is...you bought all these studios and you guys can't run them.

Jesus.

Inverno3h ago

Spread thin after firing over 2000 employees a few months prior. So basically they created the problem and their solution was to just fire more people. Absolute geniuses over at Xbox, of course can we even believe this to be the reason for the closures?

just_looken1h ago

9 agrees of course pro sony site

Oh look knowledge
https://www.pcgamer.com/aft...

They left them do there "magic" for 3 years lost alot of money redfall is what made them take charge.

This is right now m$ in charge

Profchaos1h ago

Leaders can't run them hire more management create new roles don't shutter entire studios cause you can't figure out how to run them.

Unless the reality is this whole consolidation thing was really an excuse for IP harvesting

Eonjay3h ago

Reports are suggesting that Game Pass will be getting a price hike soon and that Call of Duty may not be added to the day one offering. I honestly have a hard time believing this but it does beg the question why exactly did GP fail? I think the answer is that it just didn't get the growth that it anticipated. Jim was right but I wish he wasn't because at the end of the day, its gamers, devs and other front-line workers who have to absorb the blow for Spencer and team's miscalculations.

2h ago
NotoriousWhiz2h ago

And out of the ashes something even better than Xbox will be born.

Eonjay2h ago

Honestly as long as is not a situation where the industry has to contract in order focus wealth on a few people who are already trillionaires..

Tacoboto1h ago

I think 2022 killed the Series X.

2021 was a good year for Xbox though and maybe the best in a long long time, hardware and software and as a publisher. Halo Infinite launched to popularity, Forza Horizon 5 blew everyone away, Psychonauts 2 was so well received, Flight Simulator on console, Deathloop even on PS5 & PC.

But they followed that up with next to nothing. Then 2023 with Redfall, a disappointing Forza, Starfield, and 2024 leads with closures and layoffs. And some tweets reminding us Hellblade is days away.

The only disappointment with the PS5 is not enough Sony games. Xbox followed up no games with disappointing ones.

Scissorman3h ago

For all the armchair executives who were calling for Sony to release its big-budget AAA games on PS+, the same exact thing would have happened at PlayStation. Game Pass has killed Xbox. Congrats.

shinoff21833h ago

There's not many of of us clamoring for Sony to do this because most of us understand it would kill Playstation. I'm sure there's a few but I've not seen alot of it myself.

just_looken2h ago

I will give you a like sense this site is pro sony even the mods will delete this comment like my last asap as they defend sony 24/7.

Those with brains knows microsoft a trillion dollar company cares little about devs and is all about making cash so they will lease out ips gamepass is not a loss like amazon/netflix the overall ms make billions a week.

It's not the fault of the gaming industry. Gamers were told what was happening, were warned about where this would lead, did nothing, and now are acting like it's the fault of publishers that they kept buying these games and investing in MTX. If only those gamers at that time felt as strongly about these things as they do Helldivers 2.

Hugodastrevas2d ago

I don't think MTX target the common gamer but instead predate on the so called "whales". It's gambling pure and simple.

Christopher2d ago

Oh, so it's okay to buy MTX-laden games as long as you don't spend money on MTX, which has led to even more MTX-laden games with even more predatory practices where content that used to be unlocked is now behind paywalls?

C'mon now people. You gave the corporations and inch, and they kept taking and taking. Community members told people that investing in these things alone would only lead to more and more MTX and putting more and more behind paywalls. But it's only the fault of the corporations, not the people who kept supporting it with purchases as more and more was taken away?

Hugodastrevas2d ago

@Christopher that's a straw man, I didn't say any of that I just added context.

-Foxtrot2d ago

Well exactly

People stand up for something which seems small to them and they get called whiners or negative. Then years later the shit hits the fan and they all go “why is this happening?” Like they are innocent.

The issue aswell is younger gamers who grew up with all this thinking it’s normal and we all just look like old farts yelling at clouds when we’re trying to help us all, even them.

Crows901d 11h ago

Who woulda thought that listening to your elders could be a good idea...too late now

Hofstaderman1d 11h ago

It all started with that damn horse armour. Back then I thought nobody was stupid to buy into that crap. How wrong I was....

CrimsonWing691d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

I like how people move the goal-post. First it’s, f*ck any game with MTX’s, f*ck GaaS games, f*ck this game with “optional” MTX’s (Dragon’s Dogma 2), Helldivers 2 is ok because it’s fun and even though it has Battle Passes or Season Passes and MTX’s it’s ok because… you don’t need to buy them? 🤷‍♂️

HellDivers 2 is the best selling game this year. Just think about that, games like FF7 Rebirth sold poorly, but a continuous game that lives off recurring revenue sells extraordinarily well. Then we’ll hear everyone b*tch about a GaaS future.

I really wonder what this industry would’ve been like if we never gave into this crap, and yes I’m saying “WE” since I’m guilty of it, but man it’s literally no closing the door once it’s been opened.

This is what amazed me the most when playing hours upon hours of stellar Blade version 1.00.00 no bugs, no crashes, no sudden drops in frames, no screen tear, no falling from the world, just a complete package on a game under 50GB.
I think Korea will play a major role in gaming in the long run , because they're releasing banger after banger.

isarai2d ago

Still pretty common to find if you stay away from the AAA publishers, in the last 10yrs ive probably only bought like 3 games combined from EA/ACTIVISION/UBISOFT. Even now i still buy games that work right out the box perfectly fine. Just recently got like 6hrs into Alone in the Dark, and not a single sign of any of that bs, really enjoying my time with it.

shinoff21832d ago

There's such a misconception about every game needing a patch, this and that when in reality it's not even close. You nailed it isarai

Crows901d 11h ago

It's really only AAA devs and publishers that seem to have these constant problems

z2g1d 13h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

And we as gamers have to accept our role in that. Constantly never being satisfied. Constantly demanding more while paying less. Constantly demanding better frame rates, better graphics, more modes and faster faster faster…. Then review bombing the product when a demand isn’t met. Meanwhile those same demands are making games more difficult, complex and more expensive to create than ever before, on shrinking timelines that burn out employees and make their lives miserable.

You wanna know why so many games get delayed? Cuz the original release dates weren’t realistic to begin with, but you can’t tell a gamer their game is further away than they want to hear. Some dev or game designer will be threatened physically. That builds even more pressure and rushing. We are officially squeezing water out of rocks and still complaining about that how hard you have to squeeze the rock be just waiting for rain. Most of the time we take it out on the developing studio, when it’s the publisher making the calls.

All you need to do is read the comments on most websites and social media to see how toxic, entitled and petty the gaming community at large is, and realize how that transforms into impossible expectations on the parts of game makers.

Crows901d 11h ago

Nope. Some gamers are to blame. Never demanded anything you mentioned.

A fully finished and functioning product is a standard. It's not demanded. If someone sells you a tv that only works 60% of the time are you going to recommend it OR write a review calling out the obvious problem...it's not a demand...it's a standard.

A standard triple A publishers can't seem to hit consistently.

thorstein1d 10h ago

You've never heard of planned obsolescence.

HankHill1d 7h ago

I take it you like microtransactions? 🤣

Kinza550121d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

This is one battle that gamers have never won, hahaha. They were parading recently for their "win" against Sony. Where's the energy for this one, guys? LMAO!
