PS3 to Go 3D This July

PlayStation LifeStyle: "The PlayStation 3 has been the cornerstone of Sony's recent 3D movement. Sony has confirmed that a patch, that would allow all PS3's to display 3D, would release sometime this year. Unfortunately, no specific timeframe was ever given.

However, a recent finding on the electronic-giant Bestbuy's website seems to give the first solid, concrete timeframe for the anticipated patch."

It's awesome not having to worry about buying a 3D device

Sev5152d ago

Well you know what they say...

It only does EVERYTHING.

sonarus5152d ago

Kinda undecided about 3d gaming but would be kinda cool to watch some 3d blurays though

WildArmed5152d ago

Only if my HDTV could do everything >.<
It's holding my ps3 back!

feelintheflow5152d ago

is replace our tv's with the new ones. woo hoo, oh wait, we don't all have 2 grand to get a smaller tv just so we can do 3d, damn. Oh well, maybe next year, or the year after, or heck next generation.

hazardman5152d ago

have to buy a 3d tv and specs...

St0n3d Bluntman5152d ago

I don't know where you got that from but you still need a 3d tv

boodybandit5152d ago (Edited 5151d ago )

what toll it "might" take on our eyes. Watching a movie every once in a blue moon with 3D glasses on is one thing but what would marathon gaming sessions be like on the eyes? Has there been any test or studies on this?

I remember the first projector I purchased for my home theater was a DLP and I would have severe eye strain and headaches (rainbow effect) the first several weeks. I eventually got use to it but almost always felt a little eye strain.

I go on some pretty serious gaming sessions some days. I would guess as long as 12 hours in a day. Hopefully one of the local stores in my area will have displays to try when this becomes the norm.

Just the thought of playing a racing with my c0ckpit and surround sound setup in 3D sounds crazy cool!

Serjikal_Strike5151d ago

but god of war 3 had a 3-D look to it...its freakin awesome...no game out there like it....
if you dont have it.... go get it..trust me:)

St0n3d Bluntman5151d ago (Edited 5151d ago )

They've been doing stereoscopic 3D for years now. I'm a television salesman and LCD refresh rates are still around 4 to 5 milliseconds. That's why even with 120hz sets you'll see some juddering. DLP refresh rates are in the nanoseconds, which means 3D will have a much cleaner picture on a DLP. Trust me on this one

DaTruth5151d ago (Edited 5151d ago )

Avatar was pretty amazing! For games and movies that do that, I would pay somewhere down the way!

After my girl saw Avatar, she didn't seem repulsed by the idea even though we already have 2 46" televisions!

I already had a 46" HDTV with 720p. When I saw Uncharted on a 1080p Bravia and it looked way better than my 46" Wega, I bought a new television and it significantly improved my gaming experience!

I will pay for another significant improvement to my gaming experience, if in fact it is a significant improvement. Just like golfers spend lots of money on better clubs... this is my hobby!

@Stoned bluntman: There is a very good chance that old 3D televisions won't be compatible with the new 3D standard! I'm 99% sure!

St0n3d Bluntman5151d ago (Edited 5151d ago )

Maybe you should know what you you're talking about before you spew your nonsense. The only thing required for proper 3D is a television that can do 120hz and can decode a 3D image, which newer DLP tv's can do. This so called 3D standard you speak of is just Stereoscopic imaging. That amazing movie Avatar you're talking about was shown on a DLP projector noob! I know much more about the ins and outs of tv's than you ever will. Here's a link that shows it will work if you still think I'm wrong.

Edit: I'm not trying to force any of this on you guys, I'm just providing information on a viable cheaper alternative than the new fangled LCD's

Omegasyde5151d ago

DLP Lamps are quite expensive and the DLP TV's are thick unlike most LCD/Plasma's which are only 4-~9 inches thick. I have 52" Mitsubishi.

The Cheaper "FAD" for 3d you will have buy a pair of 3D Vision Stereoscopic Glasses. No Additional Purchase Extra and these glasses are already on the market for PC's.

This "might" be a cheaper way by just buying 3d glasses instead of a brade new 46' inch TV for 4 grand USD.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/...

Also Sony could just make a set of 3d glasses like Sega and Nintendo Did Here is the Pic, 3d gaming isn't new

Rememeber Virtual Boy ?

More info for 3d glasses:
http://www.epanorama.net/do...

Personally I can see Gameshark/mad Catz selling USB 3d ("wired") glasses by mid-summer for PS3 and perhaps *ALL* consoles soon after.

EvilBlackCat5151d ago

oh my friend ignorance rules what its left of what we call brain... remember what that is?

we have a ps3 sooo...

no we need a 3DTV and by believeing blindly what sony says 3d glasses also so leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttsssss sss geeeeeeeeeeeeetttttttt ready to spennnnnnnnndddddddd MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRREEEEEEE MOOOOOOOOOOONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEYYYYYYYY!

St0n3d Bluntman5151d ago

You are correct that you have to replace the lamp on occasion. But 09' Mitsubishi DLP lamps can be had for around $100. Considering they last for 4000 to 7000 hours they last a long time. Plus everytime you replace the lamp it's pretty much a new tv again. Their are pro's and con's to all technologies. LCD backlight will eventually burn out around 20,000 hours and you're left with a brick and its way more expensive to fix. Even the new LED LCD tv's eventually burn out. Oh and my DLP is only 16 inches deep. May I ask what year you bought your Mitsubishi. Are you sure it's not a CRT?

ReservoirDog3165151d ago

Everything I feel about 3D is summed up in this video. You should watch it. See it from a perspective of someone who doesn't automatically love everything 3D.

boodybandit5151d ago (Edited 5151d ago )

my theater projector lamp is $800 dollars. That is the single biggest reason I only use it for movies and major sporting events now. It has a shelf life of 8000 hours so it should last me another couple years but it definitely doesn't look as bright as when I originally purchased the set.

I prefer the illumination of LCD's and LED's over any projector and my Sammy DLP. Every display in my house is 1080p except my gym. But I will pick up a 3D display when they are released and replace my crt in my gym with one of my flat panels.

its gunna be like real life....except Sackboy will be there

Natsu X FairyTail5152d ago (Edited 5152d ago )

like real life?

SackBoy sightings have been reported all over the world since LBP's release

here's a few pics.

sackboy caught playing PS3 while everybody was sleeping

sackboy with kids

lmao

WildArmed5152d ago

for a sec i thought it was a pedo bear D:

ReservoirDog3165151d ago (Edited 5151d ago )

Why, why don't they sell that one in the first picture you posted? Why? Mean and the other millions of people who bought LBP would buy that in a second.

I always thought sony should've partnered with Build-a-Bear to have sackboys there. That way everyone could make their own personal sackboy.

I just don't know why they wouldn't sell that.

edit: Wow, just found this. Looks a little off but still. Someone finally made an actual plush sackboy that doesn't look weird.

Any TV will do? It'd be stupid if the PS3 could do 3D but you'd need on of them new Hi Tech TV's for like 10.000Bucks

edit: is it really? that's cool to here. but kinda lame if you spent about the same amount for a 1080 42" TV X home theatre.

gotta wait till the price get lower.

Genesis55152d ago (Edited 5152d ago )

Actually it's $2,000 for a 40" 3D ready Sammy right now.

WildArmed5152d ago

Yeah it's kinda of a steep price.

in 2-3k I got my 62' HDTV.

Biggest5151d ago

$2,000 for a brand new tech is steep? I paid close to that for a lame ass LED with 240Hz refresh. It's lame because now there is 3D and I didn't think it was coming this soon. Time to butter up the wife and tell the kids that Ramen noodles every day is good for them.

WildArmed5151d ago

@3.3
lol.
Ramen Noodles xD

I meant in terms of other HDTVs.
You could get a 60' HDTV for what u'll get a 42' 3d HDTV.

So I dont see my self upgrading anything soon. I didn't expect to upgrade my HDTV every other year. I'm gonna stick with this one atleast till 2012.. I just dont have that kinda cash.. *shakes fist*

Mista T5152d ago

all of 2 people will be able to enjoy this feature.
I bought a great 1080p tv last year now a new tv comes out :(

Somnipotent5152d ago

your implying that no one is interested in this. me, i'm not, i saw a demo at the sony style store, while cool and all, it's probably not going to be something i'm gonna get into. however, you can't deny that the option is there and it's free with your ps3. if you wanted to try it out, it's available. since when has microsoft added value to the xbox without having you pay for the privilege. facebook and netflix anyone?

The Great Melon5151d ago

I have been waiting for a long time for 3D to catch on. My family has still yet to upgrade the main TV to HD yet, so we will likely skip HD and go for 3D. I bet many are in the same boat as I am.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron - Coming Back for a New Generation

Originally launched in 2011, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is coming to Nintendo Switch, so It's time to look back at the original.

jznrpg4h ago

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv724h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

Fallout 3's Reveal Led To Death Threats And Bethesda's First Security Guard

The artist behind Fallout 4’s Deathclaw reveals just how bad things got back when Bethesda took over the series

anast6h ago

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood5h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK2h ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.

gold_drake1h ago

there is no "but". the hell lol
you dont send death threats, period.
