I just finished GoW 2 the other day, just so I can have the story and the feel fresh in my head going in to GoW 3. I know you said in your opinion, but since you shared yours, I'll share mines to counter. In my opinion, you have to be in straight up DENIAL to think GoW 3 is, "slightly graphically improved God of War 2". Hell, the DEMO is miles in front of GoW 2. Go ahead rip the eyeball off a cyclops in GoW 2 then do it in GoW 3. There is nothing 'slight' between them.

Yes, technically FF13 is possible on the 360, but it's at a much lower quality. Come to think of it, GoWIII, Uncharted 2, and Killzone 2 would be possible on 360 also if you split it into 3 discs, make the in-game cut scenes pre-recorded cutscenes, lower the resolution to 1024x576, and compress the audio to 5.1.

I'm not sure if this has been said here yet, but I read the first 10 or so comments and there's a lot of people arguing that this could be done on the 360. Well, it doesn't matter whether it could be done on the 360, because whenever the God of War team talks about "this is a PS3 game" and "we couldn't have done this without the PS3" and "it's only possible on PS3" they are talking about the PS3 in relation to the PS2. This team is owned by Sony. They don't make games for the 360, so they're not talking about that. They've said it many times before when people ask if this could only be done on PS3, they say "yes" and then go on to explain why it couldn't be done on the PS2. Just look at the GTTV episode with Stieg from last week and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Sorry to burst your bubble Microsoft fans but 360 is not capable of running a game of this scope and quality.

1. Developers have had a full year lead to work on the 360 and we have yet to see an exclusive game that even comes close to this on that system.

2. People claim 360 is easier to make games for so where are all the games that put PS3 exclusives to shame?

Simple answer is that there are none. 360 is pretty close to maxed if not already there. The best you will see are some possible tweaks with minimal improvement in quality.

Invest in a PS3 and quit trying to live in false hope. ;)

i mean i think 360 is possible of good graphics, metro 2033... (we'll see how good it looks in action) but i mean when people say it is maxed out in terms of graphics i dont think this is true. i think it is maxed out in terms of procesing power (which maxed out isnt a bad thing because it is impressive for a console) it's just that the cell is a lot more powerful that is why you see games like lair, kz2, motorstrom, mag (256) etc. with a lot of action and everything on screen at once with everything else like good AI (well maybe not lair) and great graphics etc. even the develloper who made flower said the grass couldnt be done on 360, and i believe it because till this day i havent seen anytihng really match up to the ps3 in terms of raw power, more discs would not help the processors power a game better i dont think.

The game looks great, but the be all end all? Not in my eyes. I'll play it, enjoy it, beat it, and more than likely not play it again for a long time...just like every other PS3 game I own that was supposed to stop the world in its tracks.

PS3 games get WAY over hyped. White Knight anyone? How about MAG? Even UC2. A great game, but, at the end of the day, I'm not even thinking about playing it again, not any time soon at least. Right now it's Heavy Rain, ME2 and ODST. I'm picking up FFXIII (PS3) and GoWIII but I'm not expecting the second coming because what I've seen and played, it's GoW with much better graphics. Not a bad thing, but hardly worth the hyperbole

Yup, I played the demo some time ago which came with the GOW 1 & 2 collection. I played through 1 and 2 before redeeming the code for the demo and it appears to be basically the same gameplay but a leap in graphics. The leap in graphics is of course outstanding after playing 1 & 2, but it is not beyond expectations of current gen games.

And YES the game has gone under massive changes in the past year.. The AA which was 2xMSAA is pulled out of the GPU and on to the CPU giving MLAA which is equivalent to 16xMSAA (from Digital Foundry analysis of Saboteur.. GOW3 uses same tech) and the textures and lighting is also improved.. It now uses 2048*2048 res textures for all it's main characters which is called as HIGH RES TEXTURES (something missing from most 360 games) and HDR lighting...

GOW3 IS the best looking game on consoles. The things happening on screen itself put any other console game to shame...

Yes, I'm buying GoWIII and I know it will be a great game. But, I haven't seen anything that warrants the amount of hyperbole that is being emitted by journalists. I've been gaming long enough to know that 99.9% of the time, when a game gets hyped this much, it's RARELY worth the accolades. Enjoyable yes but "life changing"? hardly.

It's hilarious to me how when the first reveal of the latest gameplay, there were zero 360 fanboys in sight. Not a single one in the entire thread on N4G. Such an amazing feat.

First of all, no one has called this the end all, be all of gaming in any serious context, so don't push that as some sort of popular opinion. But it is going to be awesome and EPIC, just like the two before it. A lot of these people have a real love for gaming, and God of War III is exactly what they want.

Cool, you have an opinion. We do too. I, for one, have played through U2's campaign several times, platinum'd it, am halfway through watching someone else play through it, and I STILL get the itch to play through it again. And I spend time in multiplayer ocassionally, to boot. It's my favorite game at the moment and lived up to every ounce of hype, for me.

My top three favorite franchises are Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted, and God of War. Bar none, I enjoy those games more than any others. So excuse me, and other like-minded people, for being excited. Now I'm not defending the fanboys, just the fans, and I get the feeling your comment is more directed at the former rather than the latter.

But still, you come in here as a Debbie Downer and act like you're some kind of voice of reason. Perhaps PS3 games simply aren't your cup of tea. That's fine, I feel similarly about 360 games. I play them, they're good, but I don't feel they live up to their hype.

So if you feel that way, I understand that. But if you're not impressed by the scale of God of War III, you might want to check for a pulse. I haven't seen another game capture the scale of God of War 1 & 2, let alone God of War 3. There's a giant boss battle on top of a moving, organic 1000+ foot Titan. If you've seen anything like that in any other game, please, educate me. That's ridiculously impressive.

As for visuals, wait until you see it on your TV before you make up your mind. Keep in mind, we've actually seen very little of the game, you may be surprised when you actually play it.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I hope you enjoy the game. Kudos for keeping your expectations in check, though I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I'm fairly certain most PS3 fans would argue the PS3 has a better library in terms of quality. The graphics are just a great bonus.

I mean, who doesn't love it when you see a graphically beautiful game that you never thought was possible on current hardware? Face-melting moments are great fun. And graphics can help quite a bit with immersion.

So the "graphics aren't important" argument is a silly one. Gameplay still trumps graphics, and games still trump hardware, but they're all important.

BTW, I prefer linear to sandbox, so I'm perfectly happy with these games, but to each his own. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the game.

Wow. He said graphics and Halo: Reach in the same paragraph. There was a nice, long talk about the recently released Halo: Reach footage. I heard the "Graphics don't matter! Gameplay and rocket packs do" song quite a bit. Nice to see the memories wash away after a few buckets of tears. And I also remember hearing about the sandboxes. And then the videos showed a bunch of Lego men running down paths with fences and railings. I'm not saying it isn't a sandbox. Just a long sandbox that goes from point A to point B without deviation. But Halo: Reach doesn't matter anyway. God of War 3 already won.

Check out the latest developer white paper. The SPUs get benchmarked against the PPU (same chip used in 360) and the results are incredible. The Element Interconnect Bus probably had a lot to do with getting GOW III's dynamic environments running so smoothly. That's a TON of geometry to move around 30 to 60 times a second.

Game quality usually comes down to how efficient the game engine make use of the processing power of the system. Id software's RAGE running on Id tech 5 is looking freaking amazing (not GOW III amazing but beats killzone 2) and yet Id is having more problems developing it for the ps3 than for the 360.

Just look how hard Bungie and Epic Games have been pushing the 360 hardware from day one. They've pushed the console to its limits, and have no issues with stating this to the gaming media.

We all saw the raw benchmarks from E3 2005, and just how scared Microsoft was. Those benchmarks were watered down significantly, yet still showed a 2:1 advantage for the PS3. But once people started utilizing the SPUs and EIB ring in Cell, developers made it public that a single SPU can outperform a PowerPC core 10:1 for game code.

it doesn't matter if it's Sony or any other developers making the claim, the truth of the matter is that the game has been designed, from the ground up, to utilize as many of the PS3's built in features as possible:

uses the SPUs to handle Anti-Aliasing.
uses the Blu Ray to hold massive amounts of texture data.
uses the Blu Ray to continuously stream data from the disc to avoid having an HDD install and minimize/eliminate load times.

i can't think of a single game on the Xbox 360 that even BOTHERS to utilize the systems strengths.

pretty much most games on the 360 are coasting on the coattails of Unreal Engine 3, and outside of, what, Alan Wake, and Halo: Reach, there aren't many other titles that look to be pushing the 360.

and YES, Alan Wake is the best the 360 can do currently (show me a 360 game that looks BETTER than Alan Wake? Splinter Cell: Conviction? possibly).

so far, the PS3 has been improving with each major release. first is was MGS4, then it was LBP (you're a fool if you think that LBP isn't a fantastic looking game; the texture detail in all the various materials is excellent), then it was Killzone 2, then it was Uncharted 2, then Heavy Rain, now it's God of War 3, then Gran Turismo 5, then, more than likely The Last Guardian.

it's hard to really say which of those is "the best" because, unlike a lot of games on the 360, they aren't just limited to one genre or game play element: you shoot things in Halo, you shoot things in Gears, you shoot things in Alan Wake, you shoot things in Splinter Cell, you shoot things in Fable 2 and 3, you shoot things in Mass Effect, etc, we GET IT, 360 gamers like to SHOOT SH*T. sure, the games may be wrapped in an "RPG" (Mass Effect), "Survival Horror" (Alan Wake), or an "Action/RPG" (Fable 2), but in the end, the game play mechanics boil down to shooting things.

i own a 360, but i'm not going to pretend that shooters aren't it's forte. and you know what? that's perfectly fine, but you'd think that a console with such a singular focus would be able to produce, visually, the pinnacle of said genre. ironically enough, that falls on Killzone 2 as the most graphically impressive console FPS on the market right now, and it's ONLY on the PS3. no PC version, no handheld version, it's all PS3.

for YEARS NOW, the 360 fanboy community all over the net, and yes, on this very site, have been throwing down the gauntlet on PS3 fans, saying "the proof is in the pudding."

these are games created by some of the most talented, technically gifted developers in the industry. Kojima, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios, Polyphony Digital, Team Ico, etc.

i've been gaming since the NES launched, and i've seen how the industry has grown and evolved.

i also saw how the Playstation consoles helped to shape console gaming.

the PS1 and PS2 are quite possibly two of the best gaming platforms of all time.

it simply boggles my mind that people would think, because of the high price early on, that Sony would suddenly drop the ball and would somehow fail to produce a quality gaming console. hell, that $600 asking price practically GUARANTEED we'd be getting a quality system. it's not like they pulled that price out of their asses.

for the past 4 years (since 2006), the Playstation fanbase has been the butt of an industry wide joke, just because they enjoy Sony platforms. it got to the point where the vitriol wasn't just directed at Sony and the Playstation 3 (and PSP), but the fans of it.

we were called all sorts of names, from "sheep" to outright "idiots" for buying a Playstation 3. just because the PS3 didn't have a game as visually stunning as Gears of War at the time, people foolishly thought that the system was incapable of it. nevermind that the console was, literally, not even a MONTH OLD when Gears came out.

as if the 360's day one titles were so visually spectacular (Call of Duty 3? King Kong? Kameo? Perfect Dark Zero? yeah, those games set the graphical standards of the generation. /sarcasm). it took a year for the 360 to get it's visual showpiece (Gears of War), and it took a year for the PS3 to get it's visual showpiece (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune), but you wouldn't have known that based on how the media and fanboys were so focused on their "HILARIOUS" memes and all "teh Sony LIES and ARROGANCE."

Sony didn't lie, if the proof is indeed in the pudding, but they were most certainly arrogant. after coming off of two the best-selling consoles of all time, i can't say i don't understand the arrogant attitude.

but even when they toned it down, and got humbled, people still carried on with the hate. even when game after game cemented the PS3 as a formidable gaming console, it wouldn't stop.

even now, you still have the media pandering to the 360 crowd by not scoring the 360 version of FFXIII down for "graphical differences," when, just a few months ago (January, i believe), they were tripping over themselves scoring the PS3 version of Bayonetta down for "graphical differences."

i'm REALLY looking forward to when this generation is over, if only so the gaming press can maybe reassess it's views of this generation, and realize how woefully immature and unprofessional they have been. i can't blame the fanboys for being fanboys, but i CAN blame the media for herding their opinions of the industry like sheep.

Microsoft doesn't get anything from other people making games for PC. There are no royalties for the PC platform. So let's go over this PC = 1 platform, xbox 360 = 1 platform now here comes the hard part Mass Effect is on PC and 360 so 1 + 1 = 2 platforms. Multiplatform means on more than 1 platform whereas exclusive is on 1 platform. Hope this helps clear things up for you.

The combat is phenomenal in GOW1 & 2. You have to use various tactics and a combination of attacks to defeat different opponents and bosses, not only that but the game is broken up with puzzle solving and platforming with stunning and absorbing CGI cut scenes boasting a gripping storyline to boot, all making for an unforgettable, and time consuming, gaming experience. Your summary of the series was rushed and bias.

Uncharted 1 and 2 are also linear.

Heavy Rani..is a QTE movie/game.

GOW3 is a linear button action and QTE masher.

I know because I own all these games and play the GOW3 demo.

inFamous, a sandbox type of game has only above avg graphics and is only for one player.

Crackdown 2 on x360 is also a sandbox game but has 4 player co op and online matches.

Its true, seemless gameplay with no loading screens, large scale battles with enemies that are 100ft tall, fighting big bosses on that 100ft tall titan while its climbing a mountian, and most importantly having a 35gb disc game on a system like the 360 that can do all of what I listed wouldnt work.

Actually the Titans are estimated at being taller than the Sears Tower (if I remember correctly) and that is 1,450 Feet tall and you are fighting on/with them while climbing Mount Olympus which is even MORE thousands of feet taller! The shear scale of this game is nothing short of down right astonishing.

i laugh at the sand box argument ... we all saw what alan wake became ( from a sand box game to a linear game ) when remedy had to add the 360 in the equation ..

Meanwhile sand box games are easier to make on the ps3 thanks to the hard drive

and i still don't see anything remotely equivalent to little big planet , heavy rain or last guardian on the 360.

I don't like "button mashers" as a rule, but there's somthing about these games. You don't just continue through a linear path and kill wave upon wave of enemies the game is much more than that.
Unless you have played through the games and given them a good chance then any opinions you express, to me, seem a bit hurried and incomplete.

I have lived thru 3 generation of consoles, and never seen so much hate on a console as of now on Sony, why the hate??? Have Sony kicked ur butt or something?

Have all the consoles this gen, and PS3 gives me all I want from Sony in terms of high quality games like UC2, MGS IV, Heavy Rain, Killzone 2, Ratchet, Little Big Planet and the list goes on and on.

I have yet seen a 360 game that have blown my face off as my PS3 do all the time, so why the hate?

360 glassesppls have those comments figboy said, they are so delusinoal and live in a world of Live <overhyped community> and bash the PS3 for not have great games, no need for BLu-ray, I only use it for Blu-ray and so on. PS3 is the most complete package you can get these days.

If I had none consoles this gen, PS3 would been my first because simply it have all I need, free online, tripple AAA games, Blu-Ray, 120gb (you can switch to 250 to 500GB) hardrives, WIFI, webbrowser and so on. Get a PS3, its worth every penny!!

And yes, God Of War III is only possible on PS3 because of the Cell and Blu-Ray :), and the game looks phenomonal, maybe it beats UC2 and UC2 is a stunner, this best graphics ever grace on a console!!!! :D

Its a matter of CHOICE AND KIND YOU PREFFER...if the ps3 has the upperhand in graphics but you preffer the games you can only have in xbox360 just be happy with your console... in the end...evrybody plays what want and like...
