Gamers come in many flavours, and the original Endless Ocean attracted sharply polarized views between those who love the open-ended exploration and those who hated the brevity of the plot and the lack of danger. Very many of us, of both types, found the first game could be frustratingly difficult to complete, owing to the obscure ways in which some areas of the game were unlocked, the utter randomness of treasure-hunting, and the near-impossibility of finding some of the creatures. Nevertheless, it succeeded beyond expectations in bringing many players up close and personal with marine life – it's a tough act to follow.
