Valve has announced a new version of Steam, which is immediately available in public beta.

In the last 12 months, Steam has grown 200%. There are now 25 million users, 1000+ games, 12 billion player minutes per month, and 75 billion Steam client minutes per month. To accommodate this growth, a new Steam client has been created.

Finally! I just hope it's actually easier to use and not some over graphical mess.

Genesis55176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

Actually I just updated it's pretty slick. I like it. Very easy to navigate. Nice different views for your game files.

Bnet3435176d ago

Yes, I just got it too. I like the way it tells you how many gamers are online. Definitely needed an aesthetic change after all these years. Valve rules. Just need Half-Life 3 ...

pangitkqb5176d ago

I have to give the Changes Valve has made to Steam a solid "two thumbs up." It provides more information - on games and Steam as a platform alike - than the current standard and is intuitive to use and browse.

Gotta hand it to Valve for providing an excellent service.

I've been tinkering with it myself. Everything is now more streamlined and easy to access. I love the new Description View mode for games. The info and game news/description is very helpful with achievements and whatnot. I have 50+ games so Grid view is useless to me.

Store is mostly the same layout but looks nicer and cleaner. Smooth interface shows useful info.

My only gripe is that it looks a little Zune-y.

evrfighter5175d ago

diggin it.
Though I never knew I had 72 full games on steam =\

Tarmgar5175d ago

I love the new look! So much more flush thatn the older version. I think I'll have to stick with this one :). I know it's a beta, but here's to hoping I don't find many bugs with it so I can enjoy it fully.

ATi_Elite5175d ago

OMG STEAM! just another perfect example that PROVES PC gaming is DEAD. Only 25 million users, that's it? Only 25 million users with NO TV commercials? No Advertising! How lame. If PC gaming was still relevant Steam would have 25 Billion users. Epic FAIL. (sarcastic LOL)

Napolean Total War
Stalker Call of Pripyat
Natural Selection 2
Starcraft 2
World of Warcraft: Catalysm
Star Wars The Old Republic
Command and Conquer 4
Supreme Commander 2
Forged by Chaos
Star Trek Online

just pure examples of the PC having NO GAMES.

The new design is beautiful, and I absolutely love the WebKit rendering engine for the browser.

solar5176d ago

gonna fool with it tomorrow. well obviously after some battlefield.

Letros5176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

Sexy! The best thing that happened to PC gaming just got a face lift! I was just thinking today Valve should update the UI, this is really impressive!

Pjuice5176d ago

glad to see how much pc gaming is growing 200% in 12 months nice!

pangitkqb5176d ago

All this talk of "PC gaming is dead," but I've never seen any numbers to back up the claim.

On the contrary, numbers like this point to a healthy, robust even, community that is growing, not shrinking.

:D

Steam Deck Launch Delayed

According to Valve: “The launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. We’re sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates. Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping to customers February 2022.”

Totally understandable given the current climate, but also a big blow for hype for sure. I would not be surprised if there was a further delay down the road, given how unpredictable assembly lines are at the moment.

0rbital71898d ago

suits me cos i cant afford mine till after xmas haha

Teflon02898d ago

Literally what I just said out loud lmao. Mine was Q1 it said already. But this just makes it perfect for me if the earliest is Feb, mine will probably be April or later which is outside all the releases I care about

VenomUK898d ago

It's understandable as all manufacturers are supply constrained of components. It just means that 2022 is going to be SO stacked!

roadkillers898d ago

Why do people always say "current climate"? What are the origins of this highly corporate statement?

ActualWhiteMan898d ago

Current Climate is 45 degrees Fahrenheit where I am HBU? 🤣

Sgt_Slaughter897d ago

Just felt like using it, works for the context of the situation

blacktiger897d ago

ikr, people are brainwashed

blacktiger897d ago

oh lord this guy believes in climate bs

AmUnRa897d ago

And some people dont want to see the truth and are brainwashed and think there is nothing wrong with the climate and dont want to see al the signs that indicate that there is defenitly a change in the climate worldwide.

blacktiger897d ago (Edited 897d ago )

by listening to others is not truth, seeing for yourself is truth. But people are used to so called television and media oh yeah and government but not with their own eyes ever! That's a hard fact. Ice melt, and you all believe it. Volcanoe hit and you all believe it, this has happened even in the Bible so what climate change for 10, 000 years?

Fishy Fingers898d ago

Year on and we still cant easily buy consoles or GPUs. No surpised.

Orchard898d ago

That's a bummer, but only 2 months, and understandable given how unpredictable HW is right now.

phoenixwing898d ago

Disappointing but not really surprised. I'll still be waiting and keep my pre order

Eonjay898d ago

Feburary seems to be the month everything is releasing now.

Si-Fly897d ago

Until the next round of delays 🤣
