Heavy Rain Patch Causing Severe Problems

Prior to launch, Heavy Rain received a 230MB patch and what exactly it did was unknown and currently remains unknown. With the game now on retail shelves, many are going to their local retailers and picking the game up in eager anticipation to bring it home and immerse themselves in a unique gaming experience. Sadly, after installing the 230MB patch, they are running into some technical issues with the game.

Good to know.. Maybe I will just keep this game offline until they get it sorted. Finally something from MattyF that isn't flamebait garbage.

dp2774075592d ago

Ie got the game and have the update installed and no problems id say im probally more than half way through it

Echo3075592d ago

Keeping the game off-line? I didn't think about doing that; that's not a bad idea.

Or, maybe you could download the patch, and if it causes issues, delete the game data and then keep it off-line? Hmm... regardless, it seems there is an easy work-around even if the patch does cause problems.

GiantEnemyCrab5592d ago

The more I read the more it seems the update worked fine and it's more the minority that are having issues.

That's a great idea Echo. I bet you can delete the update if it causes issues.. I know I've done it when I had some HOME corruption and had to delete an update.

Can't wait to give this game a spin tonight!!

Fishy Fingers5592d ago

Usually these "patch problems" that we read about only effect the minority (usually) it's just normally over blown, generally because those having the problems shout the loudest, while those free to play are, well, playing.

But if in doubt, do what you suggested and play offline. Good idea.

SPACEBALL 15592d ago

i have had sound cut out a few times, but nothing serious.

"MAJOR SPOILER IN 1ST COMMENT
in the source article"

cheers for the heads up.

i seriously might just avoid N4G untill i've played through HR at least once lol so so sad that people wanna spoil a game for others

UnwanteDreamz5592d ago

Playing it tonight and I wont even DL the patch if I can't find out why they needed it.

GreenRingOfLife5592d ago

I can confirm that the freezing does happen. This stinks because I really want to play this amazing game but right now its unplayable

captain-obvious5592d ago

"I can confirm that the freezing does happen"

what freezing??

presto7175592d ago (Edited 5592d ago )

but sony please WTF is the meaning of this??!!! This is one of PS3's big name games in 2010 and you're messing it up with a patch!!!!

No. But seriously.... I think we should fix this ASAP

callahan095592d ago

"many are complaining about game crashes, audio skipping, save/loading problems, and some characters getting caught in furniture."

Weird, because I had the game yesterday, and I experienced all of these problems except for the getting caught in furniture. Today, after downloading the patch, I haven't experienced any of them anymore.

FamilyGuy5592d ago (Edited 5592d ago )

I know it wasn't mentioned but I sort of assumed the patch had to do with the glitch that was found (by a reviewer) that allowed you to see Madison's lower half naked around the shower segment.

If the patch IS causing problems you can always just delete the game data and play it without the patch to see if there's a difference.

Elimin85592d ago (Edited 5592d ago )

POSSIBLE SPOILERS..................

After inserting the disk it kept booting out and saying error, then i had to restart my PS3 and start over then it prompted for an update. After booting up in the beginning of the game where I am suppose to play with the kids, it refused the button input where I'm suppose to spin the kid around. and at one time Ethan appeared inside looking through the glass at the kids playing outside. I had to restart the game. Then there was a time at the playground where he spoke to the kid but there was no audio which also happened in the beginning when he got off the bed.. I was gonna take my game back to get a new one but I see now theres no need..... I haven't experienced no freezing though.

PS3Freak5592d ago

Just skip the patch, the game still plays fine. I'll download the next patch that comes out.

xTruthx5592d ago

If anyone if having probs with heavy rain just delete the patch. Like echo said.

evilmonkey5015592d ago

I downloaded the patch. It plays great but it froze once. I reset my ps3 and then it ran fine again.Im on the girl character now...

EVILDEAD3605592d ago

I just continued and the game still starts as normal

It's not like the 360 where they won't let you go online if you don't update a particuliar game.

I'm glad N4G posted that article about Sony possibly using a Heavy Rain patch to combat the 'hacked' exploit issue.

I'm glad I didn't look at this article earlier since they are saying there were spoilers in it. I only played about an hour or so...looking forward to knocking out a couple of more...

So far though (I never played the demo)..if this ain't the spiritual successor of the day-to-day activities in the all-time classic Shenmue I don't know what is

artsaber5592d ago (Edited 5592d ago )

What do you think? I haven't started playing yet, glad I checked on here first... I will skip the patch for a while. I've been lucky so far, most patches that others had issues with didn't seem to effect me for some reason. But I won't jinx it.

EVILDEAD3605592d ago (Edited 5592d ago )

I hear you..you always hear bad stuff about these updates before big games..but like I said..I passed on it due that article rumor the other day and the game starts up just fine. It'll ask you everytime at start up for the update though.

My impressions so far? This honestly could have been called a next gen Indigo Prophecy. In fact, even without connections to the first game..you feel right at home with the presentaion.

It's definately not for everyone. The slow start and the QTE training through mundane activities may turn off more than a few. But what is a great suprise is that the action sequences that kick in are a blast to play. I'm pretty early in the game, but I look forward to seeing what it will be like when it finally kicks into high gear.

gaffyh5592d ago

I downloaded the patch, game still works perfectly fine for me.

FACTUAL evidence5592d ago

I didn't see one problem. Oh BTW.....that was a shocker..and for you heavy rain players who beat it, ya know what i mean lmao.

playboi285592d ago

I too have had problems with freezing and audio skipping. Luckily I had subtitles turned on and it only froze once so far. But I can't honestly say that it was because of the patch because I never played it without the patch. It was already patched on day one.

akiraburn5591d ago (Edited 5591d ago )

I actually personally ran into a problem, I don't know if it was mentioned though in the article though (don't care to read it since people are saying it contains spoilers). My problem (and a few of my buddies as well) was that certain videos in the game are not properly playing. For example, if there is a TV or videophone that is playing something, I can hear the audio fine, but the video is missing. I found that deleting the patch and refusing to update fixes the problem, and you won't lose/corrupt your save data or lose/corrupt the ability to earn trophies on the saves you have. Just figured I would share this in case anyone else ran into this problem and was looking for a fix.

Also, never ran into any freezing problems, with or without the patch.

kenpachi5592d ago

you'd be better off staying away from the comment section of any Heavy Rain review some loser is putting spoilers every were

Raf1k15592d ago

There are apparently quite a few spoilers on the web in various comments that people have been leaving. I'd recommend you not read comments on pages about Heavy Rain until you've completed the game.

MajesticBeast5592d ago

Almost all of them are bullsh!t i finished the game myself its just some sad little kid trying to ruin the experience for people.

Solid_Malone5592d ago

yeah, i have tried to be cautious around the comments section but something caught my eye and then i just realised :(. I hope its not true.

silvacrest5592d ago

I just ran into my 1st and hopefully last issue with the game. At the end of the crime scene it froze before it saved! The game is excellent so far I like how connected you feel with the characters.

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe1675d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG1675d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman1674d ago (Edited 1674d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.

Have you played Detroit? While it’s my personal favorite, I fully understand many preferring Heavy Rain more. I’m glad you enjoyed Heavy Rain too.

bouzebbal1832d ago

def. one of my top 3 best experiences on PS3

ClayRules20121832d ago

bouzebbal

That’s awesome to hear! What’re the other 2 best experiences?

akaFullMetal1832d ago

Great game, need to get started on Detroit soon.

ClayRules20121832d ago

Glad you enjoyed the game! Yes, Detroit is a masterpiece of a game, and their best work to date “in my opinion”

ClayRules20121832d ago

Wow, 10 years...and yet, still one of the best/most emotional/thrilling gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

So grateful to Sony for believing in Quantic Dream’s vision for this game, and giving them a chance. I’ll never forget David Cage saying “We want to challenge the player, but not with the controller, but mentally, with their decisions of “How far would you go to save someone you love” Well, they broke my emotional gamer heart lol.

My teenage son refuses to play this game, because I’ve told him in little detail the emotional impact it had on me all those years ago. Maybe one day he will.

Z5011832d ago

Still have my origami crane they teach you how to make when you're installing for the first time.

C-H-E-F1831d ago

it's been 10 years? wow, that was so fast, I feel like this console gen went fast as well although it hasn't. I really look forward to the PS5 this holiday season though.
