IGN: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Review

The PSP version of the game is not nearly as inviting as the Wii title before it. The obvious visual downgrades are to be expected. The lighting effects are less impressive all around. More disappointing, though, are the sluggish controls -- Mason moves slower and heavier -- and the inability to directly control and point his flashlight, a major selling point of the home platform title. These issues noted, Shattered Memories remains a competent PSP action thriller, particularly for those with no other choices.

Sound - 8.5

I bought this game last saturday. It's definitely a solid game for the psp, great graphics, sounds, controls, etc. The game itself though is extremely short and simple. There's really no challenge whatsoever. Not a bad game by any means but it's definitely lacking in the sense that it's not scary in the slightest and too easy.

I know alot of people go by reviews, but my brother loves this game. The reviewer reviewed the game with the console version in mind. As a psp game it should prolly get an 8.

You know I like the game for what it is.

And yet, as a SH fan I am not enamoured with the "SH OUR way" approach. It is not *at all* in keeping with the thrills and chills of the survival horror genre so it feels like it's riding the coattails of the SH name.

At the end of the day, the game presents some solid ideas and gameplay. I wonder though, if it's something that could or should have been saved for a new IP instead of stomping all over SH canon.

I think a 7 is a good score for this game. No more, no less.

The game is too easy. I beat it in one sitting the afternoon i bought it. About 6 hours long and that was with me extensively exploring every area i went into.
It's like survival horror for beginners. No need to worry about a life bar, because there isn't one. No need to worry about running out of ammo, there are no enemies to harm. The puzzles in silent hill have always been known to be difficult, in most of the games you can choose the difficulty of the game AND the puzzles. In shattered memories the puzzles consist of turning over cans to find keys, twisting knobs and moving curtains. There's no inventory whatsoever and you're never in any kind of fear because there are no enemies whatsoever when you're exploring the city. Yes it's a solid game in terms of production values but there's really nothing to the game that would make you want to come back. I don't regret buying it but i'll probably never play it again. At least not for a long time.

Good score. I will still pick up the game just not at full price. Will get it when its $19.99 or less. Shouldn't take too long. I have noticed a pattern with third party Wii games and price drops.

I grew up in a country where we didnt have the majority of consoles you guys had in the rest of the world. My consoles were a Sega 16, and a Microgenius (which I think was a knock off Nintendo NES), I traveled to UK once as a child and bought a Sega Mortal Kombat game, but it was a Sega Genesis (or whatever it was called), and the damn game wouldnt fit into my console. I resorted to cutting the edges of the cartridge to get it to fit in my desperation (imagine that)! Lol

Needless to say it wouldn't run it.

Damn lol! Our first home console was the Sega Master System! Played the controllers to shambles, the console is still live and kicking though!
