It's all a bit unfair on the dragon really, made worse by the appearance of your tutor, Dr. Drake, whose old-school army officer looks lead one to suspect he may be more interested in shooting and stuffing your new friends rather than caring for them. Still, the interactive clues are nicely done, and kids will enjoy it, but this is probably best avoided by older gamers who aren't obsessed with flying lizards.
The realm of Dragonology, as presented on the Nintendo DS, seems to be a fusion of the worlds of Harry Potter and Indiana Jones. On the one hand, you have the fantastical aspect of tracking and training dragons. But the setting is painted with airships and adventures in far flung jungles. It's an interesting mix that draws the neophyte Dragonologist into its little world.
IGN writes: "Dragons are all the rage these days. From the Eragon book series to the recent release of Dragon Age: Origins, from the renewed popularity of the Dungeons & Dragons brand to the upcoming How to Train Your Dragon 3D movie, there are countless outlets for fans of the fantastic creatures to get their fire-breathing fix. Dragonology, now, offers one more."
Nintendojo writes: "For the uninitiated, the Dragonology book series takes a fanciful look at dragons as though they were any other real animal to be studied. They contain beautiful illustrations, information on habitat, diet, lifespan and other such 'data' on the lives of dragons. In Dragonology for DS, players assume the role of an apprentice dragonologist charged with the task of tracking down dragons in order to amass said information."
