Great score. I can't wait to play the game. A nice addition to the 360 and PC library. I don't really trust IGN so I'll wait for more reviews, but really guys? Will lower scores deter you from buying the game? Of course not! I'm gonna buy the game regardless of scores.

Yeah im super pumped for this game... my 360 has been switched on in about 2 weeks.
But what makes Mass Effect 2 even better then most other exclusives, is the fact its also on PC... which means twice as many people get the chance to bask in its glory.

I think the days of the exclusive need to come to a end... its pointless comparing exclusives on different consoles. The day all games go multiplat, the gamers will start to win. Cause at the moment all exclusives do is turn gamer against gamer.

But they still need to get ports up to date, the is no excuse for 1 version to look worst than the other... it just shows incompetence on the developers. edit: @pippoppow, I played the first on PC and it lends itself to the PC control scheme really well (also didn't have many of the issues that the 360 version had). Bioware games have always been better on PC anyway so you won't be disappointed.

edit2: there's always the option of using your 360 controller too if you want to play it that way.

At least the PC version will not have the same intrusive DRM that the first game had. Kind of pissed me off from getting the game. Need to get ME1 (used) +2 (new)when I get the time. 2 looks too good to pass up but will play 1 first.

I'm past the breaking point. I couldn't possibly be any more excited for this game. The first one may have had its fair share of issues, but, overall, Mass Effect was an achievement. Similar on scale to Uncharted. These scores make me rest easy knowing how often I've compared the two. I view these franchises as the pinnacle of game design. If you can bear with the technical issues, the original Mass Effect will impress beyond belief. Narrative design for the win!

BGII, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment (by far favorite), Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire (hated this game with a passion, because of its lame generic asian themes), KOTR, Dragon Age, (missed ME1... but won't make that mistake) and now ME2... mmm for my pc!~

We have yet to see how good is FFXIII and if Versus is coming out this year. That does not include all the unannounced games for the end of the year. Furthermore, some people look into RPGs for characteristics that other games may also display, like a great storyline, customization and epic battles; God of War 3, The Last Guardian and Zelda Wii may just fullfill that niche too.

Hey fellas', just to be clear, I'm not trying to attack your opinion(s) or even really disagree for that matter. Not at all. I just like discussing gaming, and this is a discussion board, no?

And my point is simply that there have been a lot of great RPGs this gen (Fallout 3, Fable 2, Oblivion, and so on) and they all have dedicated fans who may or may not disagree with the statement that ME2 is the best RPG this gen (regardless of review scores).

My personal favorites so far are ME1 (and now probably ME2), Fallout 3 (buggy as FO3 could be), Borderlands, and Demon's Souls. Not sure I could pick an absolute favorite from this list - they're all fantastic for different reasons - but I generally prefer shooting mechanics over sword play.

If you already have ME2 in your console (or PC), I'm jealous!

The American media is very pro Xbox, because it's an American product owned by one of the biggest American owned corporations.

Just like in Japan, they probably downplay the Xbox in the media there, which would explain why the hardware sales there are nonexistant. (aside from the fact that 360 has no games)

I know personally EA are incredibly confident that this game has a serious chance of winning GOTY just from witnessing the development. BioWare don't disappoint.

Except the PC doesn't really compete against with another computer platform. The Mac platfrom has a few games, but not enough to be any real competition to the PC. On the other hand the PS3 and 360 are primary competitors in the console market and when one game is on one console and not the other it makes a big difference in the competition between the two platforms.

Furthermore, you are dead wrong when you claim that Xbots invented the term "console exclusive". The term has been widely used for a long time. I can show you a ton of examples from game magazines that I have from last generation where they refer to games like Chronicles of Riddick on Xbox as "console exclusive". Everybody in the industry recognizes that distinction, except a few PS3 fanboys.

Mass Effect 2 will indeed be a GOTY contender. I don't think there's any RPG this year that can score higher. FF13 was said to be dissappointing, so I doubt it's going to recieve anything higher than a 9.5. I see nothing in the way of Mass Effect 2 in terms of RPGS this year. The graphics are great, the storytelling is unrivaled (Show me a current Gen RPG that presents it's story better than the mass effect series), The combat is fun, and the universe is full of things to do. Mass Effect 2 deserves every bit of the 9.6 it got. Good job bioware. Tuesday can't come quick enough for me.

From having played the game the black beta this game is more of a shooter than an RPG Bioware have taken out many of the rpg elements. Also its only 20-30hrs long thats way too short for an RPG such as this I guess Bioware will make up for it from all the dlc they will make and charge us...

Love Biowares games. Probably the best RPG developers out there right now (just personnel opinion so don't take it as fact). Just look at their previous RPG games (KOTOR, Jade empire, Never Winternights, ME1, Dragon Age). They haven't made a single bad RPG game. GOTY contender for sure.

My two copy's of Mass effect 2 arrive Monday. I purchased both a copy for pc and a copy for the xbox360. I wont make a cheap pass at uncharted 2 like some ps3 fanboy's do. When it comes to releases on a rivals console. And I ask the xbox360 community on n4g to not be to harsh towards the ps3 and the main xbox360 rivals game uncharted 2 in till they have ad lest completed Mass effect 2 on the xbox360 console . But I do hope that Mass effect 2 can out do Heavy rain in all aspects even tho the two games differ in there genres? .....:)

Anyways, you're right. Good news if it is this good to the owners of the platforms it's currently available on.

PS: 'SDF Repellent', yes you do have to read the back of the box to know if your PC can run it (in the unlikely situation you want it, but have a quite old/inexpensive machine and are looking into it). Been that way since day dot, and yes it runs on Windows OS - pre-installed on most machines, though, and on a platform which gives no company (including MS) any royalties per copy (that sort of thing only happens on consoles))..

I don't 'dislike' anything at a personal level (and i also own a wii/Ds/Gamecube btw, and am living with a guy who owns an XBox (non 360)). It's a piece of plastic; to do so would be irrational. Hell, I very well might buy a 360 if Natal ends up all that (or if enough of a cache of games assemble only there i can't say no to not already within my options).

I'm not sure what 'agenda' you are referring to... Or why this 'agenda' would 'get annoying'. True, they haven't. Mind you, his comment puts the two on even grounds, so it would make sense that they haven't. He hasn't just 'mentioned' the PC, but also placated the 360 users in the same sentence. Which is fair enough (maybe his PC is older or he just prefers sitting on the couch playing games on a big tv, i don't know, it's his call), but one shouldn't 'have' to do this to not get a rabid disagree, or a string of them.

'If' it's just PC devoid taunting Ps3 fanboys - as opposed to PS3/PC owners (ones who are the real deal - and maybe even bought the PS3 with their PC catalogue in mind) - getting slammed, fair enough. The "ol' PS3 fanboy standby" is picking out a game that has yet to beat beaten in scores and dangle it over other fanboys' heads (GT has yet to be beaten by Forza in sales and scores, MGS has yet to be surpassed by Splinter Cell, etc etc).

As for the 360 standby, no games are good enough until they sell 10 million copies (from what I've seen), or at least 2 million in one day.

I have yet to see anyone say something like "the only reason Halo 3 sold 10mil was because it was out before COD4 and the bar has been raised since then in terms of sales. Halo 3 wouldn't have sold as much today."

I don't think anyone would believe H3 would sell any less.

1. I couldn't care less which game you like or dislike for whatever reasons, because that is preference. My mom hates war movies I don't, does that mean that Saving Private Ryan is a bad movie? does it? Because critically, from people who enjoy that genre it's amazing, one of the best. My mom hates it, but she acknowledges that it's good from a critical standpoint and so should you. I mean for f***'s sake grow up!

An RPG meh, definitely not my type of game, but I will torrent it to check out what's the fuss all about. As far I remember the first also got great scores, but in reality was average with terrible graphics. The graphics were only good in the boring robot conversations, robot conversations, because there were zero face and body expressions. So yeah the graphics were good in the robot conversations, but as soon as a mission started the graphics went sadly down the toilet. But well maybe this one will keep me longer than for 2 hours.

Beat the first one three times on the hardest difficulties but with the same character who was a vanguard build. I think that's what it was called. I should have experimented more with other characters but I wanted to reach lvl 60. The problem with the first one was that the battles were too simple strategically, the game had a poor frame rate, long loading times, the vehicle handled like crap and a lot of the side planets and quests were quite repetitive and empty. Some of the achievements were also too annoying to get such as having to play 75% or more of the game's quests with every character. Christ that would take ages to do. The game had a great story though and a dialogue system greater than any game I've ever played. The characters had huge depth and the universe was hugely interesting. There was also great choice in the game. Most of all though, the game was a lot of fun to play and hence the reason I played through it three times. Oh and I loved the Citadel until it got destroyed. ME2 seems to have improved on ME1 in every way. Like Assassins Creed 1, ME had the proper foundation. The easy part was what was left to do by Bioware and judging by this review, they certainly did it. This game looks like a must-buy for any Xbox 360 owner and I hope it sells like hot cake. I expect ME to come to PS3. Bioware enjoyed developing for the PS3 so I think it will happen. It's just a matter of when.

Uncharted 2 is a great game. And I give respect to Naughty Dog for creating such an amazing experience. But nobody can really compare a linear game vs a Role-playing game. UC2 has an amazing story.. But again, you can't compare it to Mass Effect which gives players deep character interaction, a story that the player gets to control with life or death decisions, emotional bonds with your squadmates which leads to a romance between the main character and his/her squadmate. Mass Effect 1&2 is just a lot more complex than your usual action-adventure game.

I just wish more people can see that....

bTW. Sony is no Angel either.
Remember when Assassinas Creed came out and got a review from IGN that was less then steller in comments? Google it. Sony COMPLAINED and 24 hours later that part of the review was taken out. Fallout 3 for the PS3 version comments also? Remember that? Then you have Gamespot where Calls where made.
Also Sony even does certain things with its movie reviews. You do know that Sony has been busted before with making up positive reviews for its movies with FAKE movie reviewers? Google that one also.
What i am trying to say is ALL these companies will do things, but i find this generation in particular that EVERY Sony fanboy says MS paid off ALL 150+ game sites for reviews when a game is released that is getting good scores. Its almost laughable at this thought of mass conspiracy. Only a 12 year old would beleive all that.

ME2 will increase the competitiveness of the 360. In the last year, the PS3 pretty much stole the show with top-drawer exclusives so its good to see a 360 exclusive doing well. This year will be by far the most competitive between both consoles as a good number of AAA exclusives are coming out for both of them and the motion controllers are also due out for both. This year will determine the winner of the console war but the real winner is the gamer with both consoles. Thus, I hereby pronounce myself the winner.
