PETA Creates Baby Seal Game

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has recently set its crosshairs on Canada's annual tradition of hunting baby seals. The Flash game has players control a baby seal around hunters with clubs as it slides down a hill.

When you sled right into the clubbers, nothing happens!
Now, if it had been like Bloody Pingu, that would be happening. It's not seals, but clubbing penguins can be fun to!

Seriously though. The seal population has been increasing since the 70's and the hunt has long been monitored. Even the "clubbing" has been ruled on by the Canadian humane agencies consulting with vets on behalf of the International Fund for Animal Welfare. They had recommendations on how the hunt could be more humane but found no problem with the actual "clubbing" act itself "The hakapik is an efficient tool designed to kill the animal quickly and humanely."

Even the World Wildlife Fund did a study in 2005 and found "Perception of the seal hunt seems to be based largely on emotion, and on visual images that are often difficult even for experienced observers to interpret with certainty. While a hakapik strike on the skull of a seal appears brutal, it is humane if it achieves rapid, irreversible loss of consciousness leading to death."

What people don't like is the thought of something cute being killed, or for the image of the blood on the stark white ice. If there were white sheets down on the slaughter house floor anywhere it'd probably shock most people. PETA just doesn't like the fact that wildlife agencies who monitor the hunt don't back them up like they'd like, so they go after the impressionable children with flash games like this.

It sickens me that a group like PETA would target their propaganda at our children.

"The organization has been criticized for the style and content of its campaigns, and for the number of animals it euthanizes. It was also criticized in 2005 by Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe, who said it had acted as a "spokesgroup" for the Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front, after those groups were listed in a draft planning document as domestic terrorist threats by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security."

PETA condones "domestic terrorism!"

PETA cares more about animals than their own brethren. Screw them.

I want to eat that baby seal for dinner. First I punch it to knock it unconscious, then I stab it and cook it on an open fire. Yeah, that would be nice cooked seal meat for my tummy.

Why should we care if a group of terrorists make a flash game?

Peta are a bunch of nut cases that seem out of touch with reality. They have also lost their "charitable organization" status in some countries as so little of the money they get is actually used to help animals.

As for the hunting of baby seals, that has been outlawed since 1987. But as the adult seals aren't nearly as cute they need to continue to perpetrate that myth in order to continue getting donations. If these animals were ugly no one would have ever cared.

I think everyone on this site can agree that PETA is a crock of garbage.
