Why 'Avatar' didn't change anything for gamers

Destructoid writes:

"If you're like me, you probably saw James Cameron's Avatar over the weekend. If you're really, really like me, you didn't find it particularly impressive. You may have found James Cameron's bazillion-dollar opus boring not because of the cliched plot, or the needless narration, or the uninteresting characters, or the pretty-good-but-not-as-great-as-the-idiots-with-Comic-Con-press-badges-said-it-was CGI, but because of one fairly simple fact:

Avatar wanted to do things videogames are already better at."

you trippin the game i never tried cuz like most movie games it looked bad... but the movie in imax 3d was crazy.... its ok though i know your trying to be different mr writer

Myst3221d ago

Playing the game right now ( Rented it ) It's actually not that bad, though the controls feel rather off sometimes [ For example when I climb off one of those flying animals (forgot it's name) the camera will sometimes pan up for at least 2~3 seconds or so before I can move it again. Other than that it's actually "Okay" nothing truly spectacular in my eyes.

The movie though I have yet to see.

the game effing sucks, and I've completed it twice so I'm actually allowed to have an opinion...

sikbeta3219d ago

The Movie = Awesome

The Game = IDK but based on reviews, meh

dragunrising3219d ago

I hate all the Avatar the movie bashing. Hands down, it was one of the most impressive visual delights I've ever been fortunate to witness. The cast wasn't "all star" but who cares? The plot wasn't bad in the least. It was engaging; if you had read reviews about how the plot was ho-hum, your expectations might full in line. I think people should keep an open mind and see this movie. Its a classic and I know I'll be seeing it again...this time on the IMAX.

Also the article is bogus. Avatar doesn't give the audience choice or the ability to manipulate events like in video games.

I saw the movie in Imax 3D and was amazed, really one of the best movies ever made and I'm pretty harsh on movies too.

I'll try to buy it when it comes out on blu-ray day 1

but the article is very cynical I have to say

Hanif-8763220d ago

Its one of the best movies i've ever seen in my life!

table3219d ago

I absolutely loved the film as well, it just appealed to my sense of imagination. I want to buy the game now even though I know it will stink...

goflyakite3219d ago

totally agree, this movie is amazing.

going to buy this on blu ray for sure.

MGOelite3219d ago

game is terrible but the film is definatly my favorite of all time, i couldnt fault it besides it nearly lasted 3 hours

deadlyliquidxxx3219d ago

how dare people compare movies to inferior video games, only gamers who lack social lives would consider games better than movies.

poindat3219d ago

Excuse me, but I'll take an interactive medium which gives me between 7-100 hours of enjoyment over a disconnected experience worth only 2-3 hours of enjoyment any day.

Twizzlada_Shogun3219d ago

Apples and oranges buddy, apples and oranges.

Baka-akaB3219d ago

staring at a screen while screaming to the wife to shut up (after all your watching some baseball!) is indeed more social than gathering people over a game . yeah right

...but I found the film clichéd, unoriginal nonesense. It was virtually "Dances With Wolves" in space, yet Cameron will be placed on a pedestal, awared an oscar and proclaim himself 'King of the Universe'.

Oh wow Jim, I just DIDN'T see that ending coming from the moment I saw the trailer.

Baka-akaB3219d ago (Edited 3219d ago )

but who even care ? Quite frankly who watch a james cameron movie for its plot ?

It's often cheesy , cliché or nonsensical or all three . The man is reverred for his genius in directing and pushing the technological envelop ... and why shouldnt he be ? There arent many ,if any that do special effects centric movies as well as Cameron ... and when they do , or rather try gettign close , their stories arent any better and less contrived .

When i want more substance i watch many other things ... it's not like he pumps movie every year like a michael by anyway .

Anyway about the article , i've yet to come across something from destructoid not purposely going against the "trend" , not purposely negative and sarcastic ... so i dont bother .
It's a call for hits .
