Echoes captures the essence of arcade gaming: a simple premise with simple controls, backed by increasingly difficult gameplay that challenges your reflexes and your grey matter.
You are a girl in a hat – something that comes as a kind of amusing surprise when you realise the stripped-down graphics' represent a top-down perspective – who must navigate a range of variously-shaped arenas, collecting crystals. Every time you nab one, another of the titular echoes spawns behind you, and begins mindlessly hounding your steps. Eventually this results in a kind of steroidal-Pacman situation, with a dozen or so enemies travelling in every direction, and you find yourself cursing the you of twenty seconds ago who paused in a narrow corridor.
Independent title Echoes has officially begun its Steam Greenlight campaign as of today, July 18, developer and publisher Thermo-Dynamic Games has announced.
