Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang praised the US Federal Trade Commission's decision to take legal action against Intel. Huang claims Nvidia GPUs lessened the need for raw CPU power and thus pose a threat to Intel's monopoly power.
"Intel has responded to this competitive challenge by embarking on a similar anti-competitive strategy, which aims to preserve its CPU monopoly by smothering potential competition from GPU chips such as those made by Nvidia...This is an action the industry needs and one that consumers deserve. And it's one that can completely transform the computer industry," said Huang.
Huang believes the action will help the GPU industry as a whole, as both Nvidia and ATI develop more GPGPU technology and make CPUs less relevant in the big scheme of things.
