A while ago, Bethesda sent Interplay to court to stop them from selling the original Fallout trilogy and to stop them from producing a Fallout MMO. How did it all work out? Find out in this article.
As long as I get to play fallout games I don't care.
This spells DEATH for the Fallout Universe. I mean this is like the whole "Snake's Revenge" issue in the MGS Universe. I love all 3 Fallout games, but come on guys. Come together on this? Are you sad Bethesda because all that Fallout 3 money you earned was wasted publishing 2009's two worst games WET and Rogue Warrior? Interplay can have the MMO, Obsidian gets New Vegas, then you can do Fallout 4: Ruins of New York City, and Would You Kindly STFU?
im glad Interplay won i really dont care about nothing Bethesda does.
I wish Bethesda would have won over interplay they have something like less then 15 ppl working on the fallout mmo interplay is Out of Touch with Reality.
wish Bethesda would've won,i dislike Interplay, whatever as long as Bethesda makes another Fallout.
umm.. without interplay fallout 3 wouldn't even exist
Ah... I deeply suggest you visit the fallout Wiki and you'll realise how lackluster Fallout 3 is in terms of ACTUALLY Fallout refrences and history... Fallout 3 is also a pretty lackluster FPS lucky for VATS. It was a GREAT game but it's probably not the best fallout. I haven't played one or two I am judging purely on the story element here. We shouldn't ignore Bathesda lackluster support of the game(DLC as side), the many glitches that plagued the game and still do.
@ mrv321 I love how someone disagreed with you. These damn kids think Fallout 3 is the holy grail. It's true what you say, if it wasn't for Fallout 1 and 2 BY INTERPLAY, F3 wouldn't exist.
Right and Fallout wouldn't be as popular without F3. So lets all be amazed at the franchise and not who made what because if Interplay made Fallout 3 it would still be a bargin bin game unfortunatly. As much as some dislike the way Beth made F3 they made the world take notice of the amazing game.
It's probably the same kids that think Star Control 2 is a RPGFPS... and you SOMEHOW shoot Nazi's... I am a new gamer, only really started with PS3 but I am interested in gaming history, I missed out on half life so I watched A PLAYTHROUGH of it all! I think if people could play games like NFS and Star Control 2 they'd understand why MW2 singleplayer sucks... and why MW2 is nothing spectacular when compared to 1942, battlefield 2 or even ... can't say I'm a big fan of 2142 but I love 1943. 'Right and Fallout wouldn't be as popular without F3. I suppose that is true, but if they released F3 Van Burren(SP) as a download I guarrantee everyone would hate it for not being a FPS... why must most things either be an exclusive or and FPS to be good these days? What ever happend to people just looking around and making a judgement based solely on the game and it's cost? Probably the same way as gaming journalism I suppose :( http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ <- play this, and you'll realise the difference between a ending and a denouement. It's a top down space shooter, with the best alien races you'll meet.
You can actually download the demo of the Van Buren game :) It was kind of neat and you could see where they were going with it. I am surprised that no one modded the crap out of that demo and made their own F3 lol I have to say I've played all 3 main Fallouts and all 3 rock in their own special ways, and yeah I'll look into that game ^^ edit: oh yeah I see what you're saying. Yeah having the switch to first person was a big thing for past players and even bigger for the new people who are playing games. Isometric view isn't a problem for PC gamers but consoles gamers make it seem like it's bad 8-bit graphics :(
You cant blame the younger generation of gamers for prefering HD gaming to old school low resolution games, try to see it from their eyes. I mean sure super mario bros on nes was amazing at the time, but personally I'd rather play SM Galaxy. Ok a wii game is not the best choice when making a HD gaming comparison, but you know what I mean. we now take for granted how much high quality graphics and sound help to emmerse us into our games. I like to fire up old games for nostalgia purposes (been gaming around 30 years) It is very cool to play the old ones for a while, but I never end up playing them for too long. Edit: I do think it was a mistake to call it Fallout 3 though, keep the Fallout name but should have given it a spinoff subtitle, to make it clear that this was based on the originals and not trying to continue on from them, the current title is a bit misleading.
We 'oldschool' boys don't mind HD, we just don't care too much for it. In my eyes and I'm sure I'm not alone I prefer gameplay, concepts and story more than graphics.
Hooray for Interplay. They should kill the MMO and the FPS Fallout projects.Go with the old school isometric look.
This same news report has been on several other websites with more details. The truth is, this is only in regards to the preliminary injunction Bethesada sought against Interplay to stop them from continuing work on their Fallout MMO and selling their fallout triple pack. The case has yet to be heard in court and may not proceed for a few more months. The denial of the prelimary injunction is hardly an inclination into what the final result of the case would be as there are many factors that can go into such a decision by a judge. As to if you're a fan or Bethesda's Fallout or Interplay's old fallout series, I think most people would agree that Fallout Vegas would be a true to the fallout series as its a joint venture between Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment(made up of many of the former black isle employers responsible for the first 2 games).
Good point this is not the last we heard of the trial and I for one cannot wait for Fallout New Vegas!
i love how anyone that mentioned bethesda got disagreed upon... i played the first fallout and i thought fallout 3 was better... i applaud bethesda for revitalizing the series with a worthy addition and quite frankly, would like for them to continue the legacy... they've got a world that works and gameplay that's fun... i would actually hate to go back to the old gameplay from the first fallout... i'm hooked to VATS and the way the world operates... go ahead and disagree with me, just because i thought bethesda did a fine job... can't wait to play fallout: new vegas... a game being developed by some of the original members that created the game... so, it'll feel like a bethesda fallout but, probably have the humor and vibe from the earlier entries... i just don't know about this MMO... it's probably years away from being released anyways... i'd rather just keep playing bethesda fallout games... one every two years is good for me...
I don't understand the attachment to Interplay. Didn't they only own the Fallout name? Just publishers, right? IIRC Black Isle made the series what it was, not Interplay. And those guys are at Obsidian working on New Vegas, thankfully.
Bethesda making Fallout 3, I never would of been interested in picking it up TBH, and oh how I'm glad I did. I fockin loved it. There is a reason for the GOTY Fallout 3. Cheers!
Interplay continue with Fallout Bethesda continue with Elderscrolls
Or the title.
