Confirmed: All Brink footage from PC build, not 360 or PS3

PSUni: Brink, an incredibly impressive looking first-person shooter from the British developer who brought Enemy Territory to id Software, recently unveiled its first gameplay footage.

We'd seen the screenshots, and we'd heard the banter from the developers, but the gameplay footage solidified the fact that Brink would be one of the most impressive games of 2010.

With some of the best PS3 talent from Ninja Theory, PlayStation gamers needn't worry about their version of the game. However, we were always going to doubt the developer's ability to pull off a game that rivals Killzone 2 and Rage across multiple platforms.

Well... So much for the KZ2 killer on the 360.

Simon_Brezhnev5668d ago (Edited 5668d ago )

I wonder how fanboys going to spin this. Brink does look fun though but seriously 360 fanboys stop desperately hoping a 360 game will surpase Killzone 2 so much. I guess the way yall going to spin this is "CryEngine 3 will surpass killzone 2" lol.

nycredude5668d ago (Edited 5668d ago )

I was just watching a gametrailers vid of this game after reading HHG's BS article claiming it surpasses Killzone 2 and I came to 3 conclusions while watching it.

1) It looked great

2) It was a PC build

3) It wasn't better than Killzone 2

One more thing, it looked boring.

Lavalamp5668d ago

It looks "great" but it also looks "boring" to you? Elaborate please.

Chris Hansen5668d ago

@Lavalamp1138
I think he means it looks great visually, but it looks boring gameplay wise.

Saaking5668d ago

haha, Just like I told you guys, but it seems some of you just don't listen. The console version won't look anywhere near KZ2/UC2.

Noob5668d ago

It still doesn't look better than Killzone 2.

gaffyh5668d ago

I already said this several times. This build is the same one which was at the eurogamer expo, which was running on a PC, but using a 360 controller. Paul Wedgewood even opened the debug console during the demo and typed something in to use a different codebase during the live demo!

Erotic Sheep5668d ago

Just 2 things I had trouble with while watching ingame footage:

- The textures dont match the visual quality of the rest of the game. These textures are too low and I dont know why.

- Whats up with the character models? They look more like TF2 instead of taking the realism path.

Hellsvacancy5668d ago

Well that shuts HipHopGamer up (again) Brink>>>K2 hahahahahaha

Ju5668d ago

Let's just hope, the console version looks like those HD videos (or at least close, and some things improve).

It has unique gameplay. I would very much enjoy playing that game. The "pseudo" multiplayer campaign (offline with bots but with classes, but also online with up to 8 players ?) is pretty new. This hasn't been done before. Great concept, I hope they really pull that off for consoles.

ultimolu5668d ago

Lol, I just laughed when I saw this title. I still cannot believe HHG called this game a KZ2 killer in terms of graphics.

raztad5668d ago (Edited 5668d ago )

To be a footage from the PC version game still looked rather plain in comparison to KZ2, still one more year to go though, so it's quite expected the PC version matches and surpasses KZ2.

Way to mislead people, and get xbox fans excited about nothing. Playing a PC game with xbox controllers.

EDIt:

I think Brink looks quite interesting gameplay wise. I love the idea of ME-like movement in a shooter. I even think Brink got KZ2 cover system, but I'm not sure about it.

GVON5668d ago

Even during E3 this was known.I remember a couple of sites reporting it was 360 footage because they were using a 360 pad but this was released around the same time.

"Stern further illustrated just how a console mindset has taken over the studio. "On the playtests, everyone uses a controller. You're not allowed to use a mouse and keyboard. Level designers were not happy at first, but we all got into the habit."

Sarcasm5668d ago

You know I wasn't surprised by this.

How could a console that

1. Gets released a year early, hence has much earlier development time and is usually the lead platform

2. Claimed to be "easier" to develop than PS3 across the board

3. Has such a "powerful" GPU

4. Been on the market for Four years now

5. Hasn't shown anything that touches Killzone 2 let alone run a game like Wipeout HD in full 1920x1080 60fps resolution.

and all of a sudden a MULTIPLATFORM simultaneously developed game is going to surpass Killzone 2?

Nuff' said

evrfighter5668d ago

Add another title to the pc list that demolishes anything consoles can do.

Noctis Aftermath5668d ago

@GVON: wow so the pc version is gonna suck, having the games control scheme tailored to a controller will make it inferior then if they done it with a keyboard/mouse.

DaTruth5668d ago

Scratch off another future title that was suppose to show up PS3 exclusives and show "TEH POWER" of the 360!

Next up, Alan Wake!

morganfell5668d ago

I really liked the magical class switching stations located everywhere...not.

Seriously, is it so difficult to come up with a mechanic for class switching that you have to resort to that? Who installed the stations, an alien race? old school soul jumping owns that technique by a mile.

Simon_Brezhnev5668d ago

only reason they probably use a 360 controller because when presenting it would look funny sitting down with mouse and keyboard then out in the open standing up with 360 controller

Ju5668d ago

@morganfell I loled at that. And they have limitless supplies of weapons of all kind. Need a grenade launcher ? There you go. An MG ? Sure thing, we got it. LOL.

beardpapa5668d ago

Sarcasm makes a good point.

SoX FireBlade5667d ago

I Think this is the wrong to show a game.

I know pc games look better but the majority will buy it on consoles. so they should show a console version

but still we haven't seen the console version yet. let's hope it won't be like quake wars

solidt125667d ago

I knew it was from the PC the whole time. And it was never a Killzone 2 killer. Killzone has way more going on ingame than Brink, even the PC version. The PC verion has more detailed Characters and that's it. Killzone 2 created real environments on a console game(real wind, dust, particles ect.)

Xgamerzus5667d ago

Money and talent and resources is what this is really about!
True that NO way they could pull off a cross platform game that can rival the graphics of KZ2 No way!!!

Even with the Ninja theory guy in charge, they would need tons of resources to make the PS3 shine! im sure as usual the PC version is where the bread and butter is the sheer amount of RAM and horse power of the next Gen PC cards !!!!

tordavis5667d ago

@ultimolu - HHG saw the game being played in HD. It IS in fact technically better looking than KZ2 but again, that's an experienced opinion. Your opinion is based off of a video clip on the internet.

umm that's kinda of weird, the latest vids i seen they show an X button smashing sequence it looks very similar if not the same the 360 controller, but if they say is not then is not

Darkeyes5668d ago

Read the article....

"Yeah, that’s footage from the PC, played with a 360 controller (exactly like E3, PAX, etc.) It’s literally the exact same demo, running on the same PC."

Sarcasm5668d ago

"umm that's kinda of weird, the latest vids i seen they show an X button smashing sequence it looks very similar if not the same the 360 controller, but if they say is not then is not"

Confusing isn't it? That's why when you see footage of a PS3 exclusive and you see the face buttons, you know it's a true exclusive.

tdrules5668d ago

good luck expecting an identical port on PS3 by a PC developer, Brink is their first PS3 game, and the PC architecture is a lot more simple and logical to use (:

snipermk05668d ago

I wish you an even better luck getting good graphics on the 360, given its diminishing graphical capabilities.

Fishy Fingers5668d ago

Like the article (or even the above caption) states, they've brought in staff from Ninja Theory to help with the PS3. Heavenly Sword was a great looking game that released very early in the PS3 cycle, so I shouldnt worry.

randomwiz5668d ago

you're right, they are pc developers, which is why they hired pretty well known ps3 developers to work on the ps3 version

nycredude5668d ago

Crap if Heavenly Sword is any indication I wouldn't be surprised if this game looked better on the Ps3.

Sevir045668d ago

lead art and graphics designer from KZ2 and the lead Technology designer from Heavenly Sword... and to this day. HS still looks better than most of the games coming out right now. only PS3 exclsuives and some high end XBOX game like Gears topple it... Sooo its safe to say that this game will look amazing on the PS3, the PC version will look the best i imaging but ha, i cant say the same thing confidently about the 360.

Now lets spin this article shall we, Brink Right now is on PC so obviously the other version arent up to par yet. and the same thing can be said about the Rage.. so, till we have actually PS3 and XBOX 360 footage.. the Brink on 360 vs KZ2 fiasco has been rendered as Fail by this article.. guess you 360 fans gotta wait for Lost Planet 2 to make any real jump in graphics.

tdrules5668d ago

to all the disagreers i couldnt give a damn whether the ps3 looks better than the 360 version.
but its good to hear theyve hired decent ps3 devs, Ninja Theory and Guerilla rawk

Lucreto5668d ago

I hope the game turns out well on the PS3.

@Sevir04
When does your NDA for Resistance 3 run out. Will it be in time for the VGA or next year?

danthegardner5668d ago (Edited 5668d ago )

I believe Sevir04 said the NDA was up in 2 weeks a week ago. So it could be at the VGA's.

Ju5668d ago

Well, we'll hope those VGA announcement will reveal some more surprises. R3 and KZ3 announcements are kind of overdue (and they'll come, that's for sure. When is another question 2010/11??).

DaTruth5668d ago

I'm looking at it now in my collection of games, but last time I played it, it was looking seriously dated. I guess it's the art style(like Ico and TLG) that makes it look that way, but it doesn't really compare to titles of today and slightly betters GTA4 graphics!

Come to think about it, that is pretty much what you said in your post!

Hanif-8765668d ago (Edited 5668d ago )

Running on a PC and Brink still can't even match Killzone 2...i told you so Hiphopgamer!

nycredude5668d ago (Edited 5668d ago )

I think I would still pick Killzone 2 over the pc build. In order to really appreciate just how good the graphics are in Killzone 2, go play Battlefield BC, COD MW1 and 2, COD WAW, Pretty much any shooter not named Uncharted 2 and then go play Killzone 2 immediately afterwards.

talltony5668d ago

It still does not match the graphical fidelity of killzone 2 though it does show some similarities to it. Lol at all the xbox fanboys bragging about this being the 360 version though. Ha

ajkla925668d ago

Comfirmed: 360 version of Brink will be inferior.
