It is a game to game decision, but making a game 2D definitely makes the game more accessible.

Baliw5281d ago

Im in love with 2D. Call me archaic...

Kain815281d ago

iam agreed with ya Bubbles+^^

Darkfocus5281d ago (Edited 5281d ago )

actually i think 2D games are harder than 3D for the most part in 3D you have a lot more space to dodge and you don't need to be nearly as precise...... or maybe I just suck at 2D mario :P but I honestly find the 3D ones a lot easier.

Hisiru5281d ago

I love colorful 2D RPGs as well as 2D/sidescrollers.

It's a shame that we are losing so many games on the console now (such as Castlevania 2D and Megaman 2D).

Good to see Miyamoto and the developers for Muramasa trying to continue this experience.

I know there are a few titles on psn/xbox live/wiiware but those kind of games deserves more importance.

Darkfocus5281d ago (Edited 5281d ago )

I'd love a new 2D metroid now that there done with the prime series but I don't really know if I like the way Other M looks. It looks really over the top and not very metroidish I just can't picture melee combat in metroid and it doesn't have that all alone exploring an unknown planet vibe.

leyego5281d ago

games that are better 2d then 3d

Contra
Mario
Megaman (the old megaman games not the crappy ds games now)
and call me crazy but metroid is better 2d then 3d.

some games just never get old even if its the same old same old.

Hisiru5281d ago

Actually Megaman Zx and Zx advent are really great.

leyego5281d ago

should have specified more lol

i was talking about the battle network series.
the megaman games that build off the old style megaman gameplay are great.

The Great Melon5281d ago

I wish there were more 2d HD games. Those can be really gorgeous if done right. Anything like Mario, Metroid, Megaman, etc. would like great in hd.

N4g_null5280d ago

There is so much uncovered ground in 2d gaming that it is just sickening.
What was so addicting was the skill level required to beat the game and the art. There was no real excuse you could use for not making a 2d game look good. Ethier you had greatartist or not.

If your programmer could not make the game persice it would show as soon as you played it. These 3d teams should be required to make at least one 2d game to rival their 3d ones.

It is a pure creative exersice in game design and art design. Also remember 2d does on always mean side to side.

Miyamoto is amazing... An inspiration... I could think of many words to describe this man... BUT as much as I love his franchises I HAVE to be critical on everything... Its in my nature...

Sure games dont have to be 3D... But also Miyamoto should learn that games dont have to be rehashes of games that have followed the same formula for over a decade...

Sure you can release a new Zelda or Mario and it will be good based off the franchise alone... But the real task would be to do something fresh... Could he design a totally new 2D platformer? in this day and age I honestly dont think he is capible of it...

ndpad5281d ago

"Could he design a totally new 2D platformer? in this day and age I honestly dont think he is capible of it..."

Are you serious?

Goomba125281d ago

@Gametime
"But also Miyamoto should learn that games dont have to be rehashes of games that have followed the same formula for over a decade"

Miyamoto has create some abstract games. The man loved puppies so we got Nintendogs. The man started exercising and we got WiiFit. He gardened we got Pikmin. Those aren't original?

You think the man couldn't create another original 2D game? GTFO.

bjornbear5281d ago

so wrong...so so wrong in many ways =P

The Great Melon5281d ago

Pikmin was definitely an interesting game that I would love to see more of. I would like for Miyamoto to make something original again more along those lines rather than Wiifit and Nintendogs. The newer things aren't so much games anymore in my opinion.

badz1495280d ago

but he says this and it coincides with the release of the NSMB, which is unfortunately the biggest title for the Wii from them this year! next year when SMG2 release, he will say something in favor of 3D! trust me, this man is marketing his new game and that's all it to this statement!

New Super Mario Bros Wii is awesome, awesome! and yes Miyamoto, moar 2D. Next up 2D Zelda, yah?

Quadrix5281d ago

I don't think we'll ever see another 2D Zelda unless it's in the style of Zelda II.

SpoonyRedMage5281d ago

I know... but I can dream can't I? I think a downloadable one would be awesome though, especially some form of sequel to Four Swords with Online!

The Great Melon5281d ago (Edited 5281d ago )

I really loved Zelda when the games were like a link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons/Ages. It's not that I don't like current releases, there is something about the older top down games that were really charming.

ThatArtGuy5281d ago

Animated movies are the same way. Not everything has to be 3D computer animated.

RedPawn5281d ago

Great Comment!

Can't wait to get my hands on the new Bonk and Rocket Knight Adventures.

+ 1 Miyamoto

Goodbye New Mario, I Won't Miss You

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first Mario 2D game in almost two decades without the New Super Mario art style, and it looks all the better for it

Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?

specialguest315d ago

Yes, you're not observant if you think it looks exactly the same. It immediately appeared different to me from the start. Mario's 3D model will always be the same, so not much difference there. However, the animation they've given the Super Mario Wonder makes it look more like a CGI Mario animation where as the New Mario Bros game looks more like typical video game animation movements

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

__SteakDeck__315d ago

@specialguest Yeah those animations are insane.

FinalFantasyFanatic315d ago

You really didn't notice the difference? It's really obvious, I was surprised when I first saw the trailer.

Asplundh315d ago

"Am I missing something?"

Your glasses maybe?

Juancho51315d ago

This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.

Profchaos315d ago

Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3

Outlawzz315d ago

I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game

shinoff2183315d ago

I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh

89% Metacritic another stellar creative game.

SkatterBrain1774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

Well if Little Big Planet went 3d with Dreams then I guess marios going 3D maker next, looking forward to that

King_Noctis1774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

I think going forward it would be redundant to have another NSMB game on the Switch as the Mario Maker series can accomplish almost anything the NSMB series have level-wise.

jjb19811774d ago

Could you imagine a Mario 64 maker? Phenomenal.

Jin_Sakai1773d ago (Edited 1773d ago )

I’d rather have a Zelda Maker. The dungeon builder on the new upcoming Zelda: Links Awakening looks like a testing ground.

https://screenrant.com/link...

Aonuma hinted at the possibility of Chamber Dungeons evolving into a Zelda Maker game in an interview with Kotaku during E3. Reporter Jason Schreier asked Aonuma directly if a Zelda Maker was in the cards, to which Aonuma replied:

“I can’t predict the future, but if people do love this idea of arranging dungeons, I’ll keep that in mind going forward.”
