Wow, that's barely list worthy.. lol and even one of those "Facebook Integration" is nothing but a shortcut to the Facebook website via the PS3 web browser..

How about some native mkv support Sony? You are supposed to be a media power house that "Only Does Everything" but I can't play any of my mkv media and several other less popular encoding formats.

Still, it's free so that is as much whining as I will do. :)

PirateThom5697d ago

Actually, there's no link on the XMB to Facebook. It automatically uploads your last trophies, purchases and in game events (games pending) to your Facebook account.

Sev5697d ago

True, but we do these with every firmware update. The list is updated as new features are found so we are sure to include everything. So if anyone finds anything else, be sure to post it in the comments section of PlayStation LifeStyle so I can keep the article up-to-date.

Cheers.

As cool of a feature the facebook integration is, I wont be using it. I really don't think my friends and family care about what I am doing on my PS3.

However I'd like to see a PSN social feature similar to facebook itself but within the PS3 friends lsit. Now that I'd use.

GiantEnemyCrab5697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

Oh, thanks Pirate. I don't use Facebook at all so it just looked like a shortcut.

And I'm just poking fun at the list.. I know more things are discovered as everyone get's a chance to play around in it.

@1.8: Why not legally? I did find a way around it with PS3 Media Server but it's still just re-encoding on the fly.

Bathyj5697d ago

I was going to say pretty much the same thing.

I dont really care about FB, and I want .mkv support.

I just wasnt going to be as whinney about it as you did. Oh well, enjoy your poking.

whothedog5697d ago

I always thought Home should have its own website where you could make your profile and people could view it or update it through Home or the PC. It is for social networking why not have a personal profile along with it.

"However I'd like to see a PSN social feature similar to facebook itself but within the PS3 friends lsit. Now that I'd use."

Me too, that would be great. PSN having it's own version of myspace or facebook for people to leave public comments that others could read, uploading pictures and having a real profile.

Also I have been listening to Pandora on the PS3 web browser for about 30 minutes. I didn't know it worked and it is pretty cool having access to my friends list and messages while listening to a playlist.

Redempteur5697d ago

mkv support ?

never gonna happen ...
not gonna happen legaly on ps3 , 360 or wii

legal reasons ..give it up ... or use a media server to look your mkvs ...otherwise you're waiting in vain ...

Myst5697d ago

You know that's not a bad idea and would be something I'd like to see.

Noctis Aftermath5697d ago

faster web browser is enough to make me update.

Darkfocus5697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

why wouldn't it legally happen the new Divx has support for it and they already announced they would like to bring it to ps3 and 360.

Cwalat5697d ago

I am sick of the PSN staff ignoring Avatar support all of a sudden.

Why the hell announce and say that more avatars are coming only to ignore it later on? Eric Lempel himself said "3.00 comes with more avatar support", it's been f***in two months now and not a single extra avatar has popped up!

I dislike the friendlist for one thing, people use the same freakin avatars and it feels outdated after 2-3 days. Same freakin avatars since launch 3 years ago!!!<

I don't like to whine about things, but W T F.... If they have time to add a WORTHLESS feature such as facebook (who even uses it anymore?)... then why can't they add more avatars?

ANYWAYS, PSN updates are free and free updates are always welcome in my book.

Bathyj5697d ago

I never thought we'd get .avi's but we did.

Still the best update yet, for my money.

Myst5697d ago

I whole heartily agree with you, another person and myself seemed to be the only ones who cried for more avatars back when we kept getting update upon update with no new avatars. Each Thursday I'd look forward to some, but every time I felt so let down after finding out that there was none.

I was hoping by now we'd get some more, but I'm starting to think it's becoming less likely that we ( PSN users ) will be getting anything avatar related anytime soon.

Traveler5697d ago

I'd like to see more avatars and more animated themes, but I do like this update overall. Sony is taking away all of Microsoft's talking points. That's not why I like it though, I actually like some of the new improvements. Faster Browser is particularly appreciated.

taco_tom2375697d ago

i found a new feature....if ur ps3 freezes or shuts down wrong u can send a error report to sony when it starts back up

whothedog5697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

Am I the only one still trying to get this update? The PC download is also not working for me. I just wanted to download BF:BC2 tonight :(

silverbeld5697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

@giantenemycrab

Are you kidding?

MKV files are crap!

MPEG4 is a lot better and PS3 plays with MPEG4 the real HD deal!

Blu-ray rips plays fine on MPEG4 and it's usually 1,45GB. It plays a lot smoother than Matroska files.

Perkel5697d ago

@ silverbeld

mkv ftw, you an have all languages and all subtitles in one file, hell you can even have diffrent types of subtitles for every person in movie , color style etc.

silverbeld5697d ago

@perkel

MPEG4 FTW.

MPEG4 you also can change subtitles and colors. It's the same. I like MPEG4 cause it plays smoother then Matroska files. And it use less space. You also dont need a high end pc to play it. With my macbook it runs fine on MPEG4 but when i play MKV then it flickers sometimes. And yes i have the right codecs.

And yes I also play it with VLC 1.03

I like the new way they do the photo folders, but why not do the same thing for external drives? The new feature isn't available if you are looking at photos on an external USB drive.

Isis065697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

I have been waiting for a update that does something for my chaotic 300gb PS3...
this is a step in the right direction but the music/videos still need work.
Would love to see a folder in a folder option over anything else, my music and video categories are messed up!

andrewf915697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

beat to the punch, ah well good list...

BIGBOSS085697d ago

Project: Horned Owl Review

From the mid-1980s to the early part of the 2000s, light gun rail shooters were a staple in both arcade and home system gaming. Arguably, the genre started to really hit its stride in the mid-1990s. While games like Time Crisis, Virtual Cop, and House of the Dead, among others, dominated both the home system and arcade space, some one relegated to only home game systems. Today, we’ll be talking about a little-known cult game published by Sony called Project: Horned Owl. This game was developed by Alfa Systems, and all in all, this is a fun game.

The score for the first Plants Vs Zombies is such great, iconic music that it has a timeless quality. Not quite the level of Minecraft, but wonderful in its own right.
