This isn't new with MS and we all know it. I've that price for a while now so why are we acting shocked? MS does this as routine.

Why do you think 360 games on DVD9 are the same exact price as Blu-ray dics? Shouldn't they be like $5-10 cheaper? But ofcourse you won't get gaming "journalists" asking none of these questions though and the 360 fanbase have shown they enjoy to take what MS gives them.

MS knows their consumer base. They know the type of people that support them and defend them to the end thoroughly and they'll keep harvesting these people. It's just the way many people are made, they can't help it and it's smart business.

It would match my elite. Yet, I hard wire my elite because it is in the game room. My original pro is in the front room with the hddvd drive hooked up. The original wifi adp is connected to the back of the hddvd drive.

Performance wise compared to my ps3 right next to it, I am impressed at the signal strength the 360 adapter has. My router is practically 3 rooms away and the ps3 has a signal strength of 55-60% but the 360 is pulling over 75%. I dont know if it has to do with the external directional antenna or what. Even the wii is averaging 65-70%.

When watching netflix on both I get more hd streams and less drops from the 360 than the ps3.

Is there anything I can do to improve the signal strength on the ps3 besides moving it closer to the router?

Quite simply put, the Xbox 360's wireless adapter is a ripoff. Even the Wii has G-band wireless connectivity. The PS3 also supports G-band out of the box. The simple fact of the matter is that wireless network connectivity is literally a 5 dollar technology. Making a wireless adapter to cost 100 dollars is a clear corporate ripoff. In my PC, I have an Encore (no-name brand) N-band wireless card that cost me 30 dollars shipped that allows me to access my home network at 300mbps. Name brands like Linksys and whatnot want 60-100 dollars for their cards. Microsoft was a big wrong with not including wireless connectivity out of the box. Making the wireless adapter a hundred bucks was a big wrong. From a simple economic standpoint, it's a big ouch for Microsoft.

The majority of shoppers (especially those in the holiday seasons) are generally your average Joe when it comes to video games. These average joes probably don't know jack when it comes to available options, prices, and necessary hardware. Christmas moms are more likely to buy a 360 along with accessories stamped with a 360 logo for their kids, than to check the back of an accessory to see if it's compatible with a 360 video game console. The average joe and jane is that ignorant when it comes to shopping for something so foreign.

Take for example my cousin. He recently bought a PS3. At the same time, he needed me to go with him to know what to buy. He plays video games on his PC, PSP, and DSi but is new to owning an actual video game console. He's played games on a console before. Just never owned one. I tell you. He was so completely ignorant to "next-gen" video gaming that he was going to buy a Monster Cable hdmi, Sony PS3 bluetooth headset, and controller charging cradle thinking it'll add to the best gaming experience.

Instead, I made him get a $4 hdmi cable at the store since Monster Cable isn't necessary. The headset he could use his phone's. And the charging cradle he could use the usb cable. If I wanted to be really mean, I would've told him in order to get the best experience he'd need to get a surround system from Sony because that'd be completely compatible with the PS3. Oh... and throw in a Bravia too. He'd really believe that Sony-everything will be the best.

That's to show how ignorant typical shoppers are when they're new to the video game console hobby.

These sales will convince the company to keep it at that MSRP. It's the same reason why we're getting $15 DLCs from EA that only have a play time of an hour or two, on DAY ONE of the game's release - and it's because EA know consumers will purchase it. If it's the trend for consumers to buy it, we can sell it.

Maybe they secretly really do want to own a 360, but they feel they just can't afford to buy every single option. ...you're right, I did want an Xbox 360. But it wasn't the price that kept me from buying one. It was the failure rate and the fact that I would have to pay for Live to play on-line. And no $50 a year wasn't going to break my bank. It's just that I don't see why I should pay twice for something. If I'm paying $60 for a game and that game has online multi-player, I should be able to play it. Also, paying a yearly fee makes it seem as if I'm leasing my console instead of owning it. Many 360 owners claim it's just $4 a month, but that's like saying owning a PS3 for 5 years is like $5 a month. Meanwhile, it would cost me $9 dollars a month to own a 360 for the same time. Microsoft is banning people who have made their own custom hard drives because a lot of the people who use these hard drives are getting them with pirated games.

Go on ebay, they advertise they come with hundreds of games. I would say that is a good reason to not allow them.

OH and here is a eye opener. If you mod your system, you don't get banned from live, only your system gets banned from any support. You have to violate xbox live terms of service to get banned from live. This is normally done by pirating arcade games, or using a modded system to cheat/ steal content you would normally only be able to get through live.
So all the people who are crying they modded their hard drive and got banned from live should realize that you did violate the tos for live. You essentially modified your gamer profile when you transferred it to a different hard drive in a unsupported way. Its the same thing as a cell phone company cutting off your account for hacking a phone and using it with a service plan it isn't supposed to be used with. (cough iphone and att cough).

I agree that 100 $ is a ripoff, but I don't think that Sony would have stayed at 49. Especially at the current developement costs (which were even higher at the beginning of the next generation) it would be quite hard to make profit of games, when there is only a small user instal base. Last gen developement was about 4-8 mill. and this time games need more than 4 times as much money.
Also look at the price of Sony exclusives. R&C Crack in time's recommended retail price in Germany is even 65€. Most game are even sold at 70€

If you adjust for inflation,games and consoles have never been cheaper. A copy of Pac Man for the Atari 2600 cost about $40.00 in 82'.

MS is going to find themselves in a predicament. They are notorious for outrageously priced peripherals, but typically peripherals you can live without. However, when Natal rolls around MS is going to want to push that peripheral into as many homes as they can. If they price it out of the stratosphere they are going to have weak sales which will backfire on their strategy to compete with the Wii and the Wii target audience. If Natal comes in at a low price, they will then have to justify why their wireless adapter is more expensive then their whole Natal system.

Xbox Live is not $50. It's a yearly reoccurring bill so it depends on how long you keep your 360. If you keep it for only one year to play online then yes, you pay only 50bucks extra...

but if you keep it for 5yrs you pay $250 extra to access the online portion of games you purchased.

So essentially, if you paid $499 or $399 for your 360, you would have paid MS $749 or $649 by a 5yr life span and that's with no HD DVD and no wifi. I just simply have never understood gamers that support certain types of consoles but what gets me is how these people want to kill off another console that obviously presents better value and quality in it's hardware. That's why I believe the people who support such consoles don't really give a damn about gaming; they just want MS to "win" however, whatever.

Now i got a broken 360 the other week and fixed it with heatgun, e-74.

It wouldn't be so bad if 360 lovers who support this type of pricing used to have the same hypocritical argument against the PS3... saying that IT costed too much. The 360 is like a wallet leech, it won't kill you instantly, but over a period of time, it will suck you dry for sure. The only way to stop it is to get rid of it... or put it in the closet like I did mine.

Lucky for me, the only accessory I bought for the 360 was a charge&play (which pissed me off too). My 360 came with a wifi adapter for no extra cost. But as far as I am concerned, Microsoft and their shoddy console can rot in hell.

I doubt they are 360 lovers, they are basically game lovers, and MS has manipulated the gaming public into accepting pay for play online, full priced expansions, and accessories that triple the price of what is reasonable. I know some 360 lovers, and basically they take the heat from MS because they have friends playing on LIVE and enjoy the overall experience, MS knows this and exploits the gamers using their pasion for gaming as a medium, just like Activision plans on doing. Is disgusting, and for what is worth the gamers do it because they want to. I was a 360 owner, but i said no more to MS, sold it and never looked back. I use WiFi with 100% signal on my PS3 and have a very fast connection. I use WiFi with my PC too and am usually one of the lowest pings in the game. No slow down, no lag spikes ever.

Anyone actually buying a 360 deserve to be buttraped by Microsoft.

No WiFi, DVD9 Player, No free online play, no online browser, no exclusives that even stand out (Halo 3 and Gears of War aren't even original, hell most of the 360 exclusives are fps)

The PS3 has a blu-ray drive, free online play, WiFi built-in, memory cards slot, an online browser, some good exclusives (Uncharted, Killzone, Valkyria Chronicles, inFamous, White Knight Chronicles (still upcoming) and a lot of others.)

Also, Xbox Live claim to be the only online service offering Facebook and Twitter and some stuff like that .... well, the PS3, Wii, DS/DSi, PSP have an internet browser and can do all those things (well, it's not built-in in DS, but software can be bought).

PS3 > 360, no matter how hard you look at it. Hell, Everything > 360.

If you are like me, you have MULTIPLE devices in your entertainment center that are Internet connected. I have a PS3, wii, 360, HD-DVR player, DirecTV HD-DVR all hard wired to a wireless bridge that connects to my wireless router at the other end of the house. It would be totally FOOLISH to buy an individual wireless device for each item or configure its built in wireless settings to connect to my WPA network. Just buy an individual wireless bridge (and hub if necessary) and stop the madness people.

Xbox fans who are upset at MS's behaviour of it's customers.....I know you're hooked into your Live accounts now, but realistically how many times does Microsoft have to screw you over for your to realise that the PS3 is better value for money. No, PSN is not quite as good as Live in some areas, but it's getting there and it's free. The new 120gb/250gb slim and lite's are great bargains and you already know that the best exclusives are coming to PS3. I grant you that Halo and Forza and Gears and the likes are great products, but really - the 360 is poorly built, has an over-priced hard drive, they charge you an arm and a leg for Live, the Wi-Fi adapters are a total rip off (granted the PS3 doesn't have wireless N, but if you want to stream 1080p over a wireless network grab a Wireless N access point and WDS it to your Wireless N Router - works perfectly - I picked my WNR2000 up off ebay for £25.00 inc P&P). Microsoft are ripping you off with over-priced inferior product and I bet for many of you, the only hook thats keeping you there is your investment in your Live Account. Want Microsoft to change?
