Peach Won't Be Playable In New Super Mario Bros. Wii Because Of Her Dress

New Super Mario Bros. Wii has four playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Toad and... another Toad.

If you're wondering why Peach isn't the fourth playable character, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto recently revealed that the reason she playable is because it was difficult to animate her dress. According to Miyamoto: "we would have to have special processing and programming to handle how the skirt is handled within the gameplay."

Just give me toad. He whooped ass in SMB 2.

Toad: "I'm the best!!!"

Right you are toad.....right you are.

TheDeadMetalhead5690d ago

Indeed, Toad kicked ass in SMB2. But why is h such a pathetic loser in every other Mario game? -_-'

Smacktard5690d ago

ITT: People don't understand that the "dress" thing was a joke by Miyamoto.

ctrl+F "dress"

I guess since Nintendo hates to release games for the Wii they also have to be lazy with the ones they do release. Sad part is since there won't be DLC she won't show up in the game at all.

TheAntiFanboy5691d ago

It is. Just use Havok or PhysX to procedurally animate the skirt physics.

Or, you can stay last gen. Good plan.

StarScream4Ever5691d ago

"Oh Havok and PhysX is too complicated for our toy."

Simply create animations for each direction she takes:
*Dress closes in on legs when going up
*Dress moves back when she goes forward
*Dress moves forward when she goes back
(And one where it goes above her waist when she's going down, lololololol)

You don't have to add a freaking advanced physics engine for ONE ARTICLE OF FREAKING CLOTHING.

Infernostew5691d ago

Well, Super Smash Bros Brawl did a good job with her dress animation. So why is this an issue if it's already been done? Sounds like nintendo's getting lazy.

MEsoJD5691d ago

so fcuking lazy these days

dgroundwater5690d ago

Havok was used in Brawl, so you are totally off base. Other than that, they just didn't want to add her. They probably could if they wanted to, but didn't :(

Goodbye New Mario, I Won't Miss You

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first Mario 2D game in almost two decades without the New Super Mario art style, and it looks all the better for it

Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?

specialguest692d ago

Yes, you're not observant if you think it looks exactly the same. It immediately appeared different to me from the start. Mario's 3D model will always be the same, so not much difference there. However, the animation they've given the Super Mario Wonder makes it look more like a CGI Mario animation where as the New Mario Bros game looks more like typical video game animation movements

__SteakDeck__691d ago

@specialguest Yeah those animations are insane.

FinalFantasyFanatic691d ago

You really didn't notice the difference? It's really obvious, I was surprised when I first saw the trailer.

Asplundh691d ago

"Am I missing something?"

Your glasses maybe?

Juancho51692d ago

This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.

Profchaos691d ago

Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3

Outlawzz691d ago

I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game

shinoff2183691d ago

I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh

89% Metacritic another stellar creative game.

SkatterBrain2151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

Well if Little Big Planet went 3d with Dreams then I guess marios going 3D maker next, looking forward to that

King_Noctis2151d ago (Edited 2151d ago )

I think going forward it would be redundant to have another NSMB game on the Switch as the Mario Maker series can accomplish almost anything the NSMB series have level-wise.

jjb19812151d ago

Could you imagine a Mario 64 maker? Phenomenal.

Jin_Sakai2149d ago (Edited 2149d ago )

I’d rather have a Zelda Maker. The dungeon builder on the new upcoming Zelda: Links Awakening looks like a testing ground.

https://screenrant.com/link...

Aonuma hinted at the possibility of Chamber Dungeons evolving into a Zelda Maker game in an interview with Kotaku during E3. Reporter Jason Schreier asked Aonuma directly if a Zelda Maker was in the cards, to which Aonuma replied:

“I can’t predict the future, but if people do love this idea of arranging dungeons, I’ll keep that in mind going forward.”
