Square Enix's Final PlayStation 2 Game

All good things come to an end, including PlayStation 2 support. Before that curtain completely closes Square Enix will release one more game.

In Japan, Final Fantasy XI: Vana'diel Collection 2 will be released on three platforms: Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 2. The international equivalent, Final Fantasy XI: Ultimate Collection, is only available for the Xbox 360 and PC in North America.

Watch the PS2 downloadable store open up on PSN.

Serial_EDX5307d ago

When that happens I'm gonna be spending hundreds TT^TT

Noctis Aftermath5307d ago

I need my GTA:SA, FFX and FFXII!

koehler835307d ago

Actually this article misses the point because all the content in that disc is available for download on PS2 via PlayOnline. All future content will be too. It's just not worth it to publish PS2 expansions any more. Retailers won't carry them.

"Once the PS2 support ends...
Watch the PS2 downloadable store open up on PSN"

What is the biggest HDD for the PS3? I'll need Terabytes of space, PSN games + PS2 games + games install + multimedia stuff

execution175306d ago

i thought most PS2 games were single layer dvd 4gbs, so roughly 500GB hdd will work fine

Right before thier very first ps3 game.

Saaking5307d ago

SE can go down the toilet for all I care. FFXIII is now gimped, and who knows when FFvXIII will come out. SE have done nothing but wrong mediocre games this gen. They deserve every bit of failure as does MS.

Dawn_Of_Ashes5307d ago

i guess if it was a xbox (the original one not the 360) square enix would still support it

Waldex_Encore5307d ago (Edited 5307d ago )

That stupid company is full of whores which only dance when M$ pimp put monay on their panties, they do not care if they ACTUALLY produce interesting and amazing stories like they used to... no

now that stupid company full of retards only needs to slap a pack of bills on their faces and they are willing to insult the intelligence of its customers. Of all the gaming universe i despise them more than i despise the xbots, i actually want its CEO and the Board of Directors to die in the most horrible way possible.

They can go fvck themselves, not even the white ps3 slim can be called an apology for what they have become.

The real killer5307d ago

"i actually want its CEO and the Board of Directors to die in the most horrible way possible"

This is compleat BULSHIT, how can you say that?
I agree with your standpoints, but you don't have the right that CEO and the directors have to die, it's not way to talk about your frustrations.

Waldex_Encore5307d ago

that im not the only one who actually desires that

NewZealander5306d ago

man you sound like such a loser wishing someone to die just cos they r bringing a game out on the 360 and not ps3 its just a game, its still coming on the ps2 so if u wanna play it that much go buy a ps2 if u dont own one already, in my counrty ps2s r so cheap now they cost just as much as a new release game. or may be you need to get out of your room and realize that there is alot more in this world than games. I would not wish anyone to die let alone in a horrible way, its ppl like you that make this world a dangerous would with comments like that.

Can't believe this game is still getting updates 21 years after it launched. That's crazy! XI remains the only main numbered FF that I haven't played.

MrNinosan166d ago

At the time, it was an amazing game if you had a good Linkshell and/or friend to play with.
A MMOROG that actually required teamplay to be played.

Spenok166d ago

Easily one of the best games ever. As you said, it had the caveat of NEEDING a good group to play with, but I've never had memories/experiences like that in ANY game since.

I've been chasing that experience since I stopped playing it, and the closest I've come to is FFXIV. And even that is still vastly different.

Seraphim166d ago

Played the shit of this 20 years ago. Getting the Serket ring was epic. Idk how many mornings we spent camping before we finally got the pull and I won the roll upon defeat. It was great solo, but you really need a good link/squad for some of the notorious monsters....

MrNinosan166d ago

@Seraphim
I loved those camping hours for every NM of interest.
Leaping Lizzy or what was it's name. Damn, so many days and nights 😅

And first time you got attacked by the Kraken on the boat, omg...

MrNinosan166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

Why tag all those platforms where it ain't playable then?

Spenok166d ago

To get more engagement with his article, and drive clicks. DUH!

(Thanks, I'll go ahead and report that).

YoungKingDoran166d ago

Wish they'd release it for PS4, 5, Xboxes and Switch - it ran on ps2 and still works on potato PCs so should run well everywhere

Disrespecting The Consumer: The Critical Problem With Live Service & GAAS

Live service games are vehemently criticized and companies need to rethink & prioritize respectful game design for consumer benefit.

Gabe says not being publicly owned is a huge part of what makes Valve so successful.
"The whole point of being a privately held company is to eliminate another source of noise in the signal between the consumers and producers of a good."

Looks at Destiny 2 > I used to go into a store to find a game. Now I go into a game and find a store.
"Bungie reportedly expressed concerns over how engaging The Last of Us multiplayer project was"
Bungie at GDC "Beware of overdelivering, quality doesn't matter, a live service being fast is more important than quality"

meh

P_Bomb269d ago

I remember that headline about Bungie and Factions. I’m not a Bungie guy, but I am a Factions guy. Can’t help but wonder if their GaaS input will be to my liking. 🤔

ChasterMies268d ago

I always thought Destiny would be better if Bungie built the game and then handed it off to another company to run it.

Christopher268d ago

That's kind of the GaaS whole thing, though. This is like telling wolves to stop behaving like wolves.

P_Bomb268d ago

Was looking at the top games in my country as per the PS Store and it’s overwhelmed by service games. Blood is in the water.

senorfartcushion268d ago

The issue is that journalists mostly ignored this issue as it was arising. Games like Overwatch were considered exciting until lesser news websites and organisations began taking opinion pieces on the problem. From then it’s just gotten worse.

ChasterMies268d ago

A lot of “game journalists” are just extensions of the corporate PR teams. Remember when Bungie flew people out to Bungie HQ and showed them the 4v4 multiplayer in Destiny 2? Everyone who attended said this was the best decision for multiplayer. Less than a year later, Destiny 2 went back to 6v6. Everyone who attended said this was the best decision for multiplayer.

FinalFantasyFanatic268d ago

The issues are so prelevant, that I just immediately skip over the majority of GaaS games, hardly any are worth the time. The mainstream media glossing over the issues is nothing new, you always have to wait a few months for the real reviews or opinion pieces (that tends to include video game reviews as well).

FinalFantasyFanatic268d ago (Edited 268d ago )

This is why I won't spend money on a lot of these games, not only do they nickle and dime you at every opportunity, but a lot of these games have a very short life span, not many of them survive for multiple years like Fortnite has.

I also feel like most MMOs in generally are more aqueduct in terms of content, for what you pay, I feel like a lot of them give you a decent amount to enjoy.

Profchaos268d ago

Gaas the game doesn't end untill people stop paying

Didn’t know this game was still going . It is an awesome game

Exvalos470d ago

Wait what ff11 is still online????

sadraiden470d ago

I think I speak for the entirety of humanity when I say this update announcement doubles as a reminder that this game still exists.

Auron469d ago

I wish theyd port this game to modern consoles

Spenok468d ago

I'm honestly surprising it's still going. I have some of my most fond memories in gaming on this game. And I've been gaming for over 25 years.

I wish I had the time to keep playing it, but I just can't. Good on SE continuing to support it after all this time.
