First images of Croteam's new next-gen project

Gamecock leader Mike Wilson told this to IGN:

"The folks at Croteam have spent the last year cranking on their engine and some pre-production for this title. It's definitely in a genre they are familiar with and will exploit their experience. As you can see by the screens, they have made a graphical leap since their last title and given they have a lot of experience in building rich environments, expect all the bells and whistles. These guys also have a strong sense of style and design, so you will find the premise and gameplay intriguing. I wish I could say more, but this title is pretty far out...well, maybe I can say one more thing. You know that the one thing Croteam is the best at - better than most every other developer in the world - is making games that are frantic and, most importantly, fun. This title is definitely both of those things."

The game will apparently release sometime in North America in 2009 for the PC and "specific next-gen consoles," according to the press release. The new game is being built with Croteam's own Serious Engine 3.

looking good -> very good

power of Green 6339d ago (Edited 6339d ago )

Are you kidding me, consoles are able to produce those kind of graphics?. If so WoW!. Looks like MGS4 but with an Xbox touch. I could only fathom what MS's going to be showing in the coming months knowing the real war begins at the end of Summer and beyond.

xg-ei8ht6339d ago

Looks decent to me.

Croteam make a decent engine, they always have done.

And are always upto date with graphic fx.

I'll be keeping an eye out for this one.

On a side note!

Look out for LOST PLANET pc demo.

Should arrive today. dx9 and dx10.

Saint Sony6339d ago

That is nothing more but pure texture work. There's no next-gen yet, but I assume this is very early stage.

Palworld maker vows to fight Nintendo lawsuit on behalf of fans and indie developers

Palworld developer Pocketpair has responded to this morning's dramatic decision by Nintendo to file a patent infringement.

GotGame8181d 20h ago (Edited 1d 20h ago )

Palworld is better, but Nintendo has$$$$ They can fight it all they want, but will absolutely lose. It is a blatant Pokemon rip off. I do wish them luck though.

RedDevils2h ago

Go check Dragon Quest you would know where Pokemon got their ideas from.

MeteorPanda2h ago

The character design is NOT the issue here. Pokemon patented bullsht. You can patent "Throwing an item to capture a virtual character and another action to release an item that releases a combat character onto virtual world" but my god that is vague as fuck and shouldnt hold in any court...and the kicker? it was patented AFTER palworld was made.

If this lawsuit goes through that is literally going to work on every single monster capture game,

Lionsguard2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Like the other guy said, this has nothing to do with any of the designs. This is Nintendo patent trolling. It's like Rockstar suing another game if they have a guy opening the car door and yanking them out to steal the car because that's why you do in GTA so therefore that game is infringing on GTA's "patent". And that's the reason why Pocketpair is fighting this because if they lose this opens the doors to MORE lawsuits of this kind.

Profchaos6h ago

Weren't the wire models used in palworld ripped out of Pokemon in the end?

porkChop5h ago

No they weren't. That was proven false. And, again since people don't seem to understand, this is not a copyright lawsuit or about stolen content/assets/designs/etc. It's a patent lawsuit. So far all the possible patents I've seen were filed by Nintendo 4 months *after* Palworld released.

Profchaos3h ago

Then I have no clue what this is about specifically

--Onilink--3h ago

The catching mechanic patent was filed even before Arceus was released, I dont know which ones you have been watching because all the ones I’ve seen were before Palword came out
(Though not all have been approved in the US yet, just in Japan)

porkChop3h ago

The patent for the catching mechanic was filed July 2024 and granted August 2024. It was filed on top of a separate, "parent" patent that had been filed in 2021. Nintendo filed new patents and had them expedited just so they could sue Pocket Pair/Palworld.

MeteorPanda2h ago

it's so dumb. if that patent holds any water in court - any monster capture game is done and gone. cnts.

On behalf of their money seems like the biggest reason

Kneetos4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

People want Nintendo to lose as a big middle finger to the company, but if Nintendo wins then they set a precedent for others to follow which could be bad for Nintendo themselves if they end up infringing on a patent owned by someone else

The one I'm reminded of is, a few years ago Sony patented something to do with AI controlling a characters moments in a game to "help get past difficult or grindy parts" of a game

Mario kart 8 deluxe had a the auto acceleration and auto steering technology implemented, so potentially if that came back for mario kart 9 could possibly open the door for Sony to sue them if it's close enough

Silent Hill 2 Will Be a PS5 Exclusive Until Oct. 8, 2025, So Don't Expect an Xbox Version Until Then

Silent Hill 2 remake will be exclusive to the PS5 until October 8, 2025, so don't expect an Xbox port or announcement it expires.

darthv7217h ago

why does it feel like we are living in the early 00's again? Sony paying for either full exclusivity or timed was the thing back in the day... and its been 'remastered' for this generation.

raWfodog10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

The original SH2 was PS2-exclusive for only a few months. Remastered version is exclusive for over a year lol.

But both companies played the timed exclusives game for so long so it’s no surprise.

rlow19h ago

Sony is the king of paying for exclusives. Anytime Xbox does it Sony fans go berserk. But when the shoes on the other foot they flop like a fish out of water.

raWfodog8h ago

@rlow

Stop acting like one camp is better than the other. Both sides have rabid fans that go crazy over silly stuff. Many gamers have common sense and are even-keeled. Which category do you fall into?

Profchaos9h ago

Two fold publishers look at the loss in sales due to exclusivity and given how little Xbox sells in general Sony's generally able to get a greenlight for this behaviour if they fund it.

Microsoft think buying punishers is acceptable but they dug a huge financial hole as a result

Nintendo is just Nintendo and don't care

VersusDMC8h ago

Oh Nintendo didn't pay for timed exclusivity for Monster Hunter Rise, SMTV, octopath, etc...? As usual it's
only a "behaviour" for Sony.

Hotpot23m ago

Technically Nintendo has more Square Enix exclusives than Sony..

Chevalier8h ago

Yeah it's not like Xbox paid for exclusivity for games like Ark 2, Stalker 2, Warhammer Darktide or anything like that right? Oh wait.....

S2Killinit5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

How do we know the developer doesnt prefer to release on the console that sells games?

Just because that's the announced end doesn't guarantee it will be coming to xbox at that point or ever to be honest.

And even if it does it'll be an inferior version without the haptics and the Tempest audio which I expect will be a huge part in setting the mood in a game like this.

Obscure_Observer8h ago

"Just because that's the announced end doesn't guarantee it will be coming to xbox at that point or ever to be honest."

Whatever makes you sleep at night. Silent Hill will be release on both PC and PS5 and yet Konami made sure and let everyone know that their game is a timed-exclusive to Playstation. The Switch 2 and it´s PS4-level hardware won´t be able to handle it, so yeah, it´s definitely coming to Xbox.

"And even if it does it'll be an inferior version without the haptics and the Tempest audio which I expect will be a huge part in setting the mood in a game like this."

Who cares for Tempest when we have Dolby Atmos? And haptics? Please. There isn´t a single haptics implementation for games that comes near to Astrobot´s.

So yeah, I´m cool getting the best definitive version on Xbox Series X.

Knushwood Butt7h ago

'Who cares for Tempest when we have Dolby Atmos? And haptics? Please. There isn´t a single haptics implementation for games that comes near to Astrobot´s.'.

Have you played Returnal?

Sonic18817h ago(Edited 7h ago)

You mean PC and PS5 Pro. The Series S will prevent it from being the definitive version 😂

@Sonic1881

"You mean PC and PS5 Pro. The Series S will prevent it from being the definitive version 😂"

We´ll see. The S is not preventing S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 from being excellent on Xbox Series X running at 60fps according to DF, despite the fact that it can barely handle that game a stable 30fps at the moment.

@Knushwood Butt

"Have you played Returnal?"

No. Why? It´s better than Astrobot?

Sonic18815h ago(Edited 5h ago)

"We´ll see. The S is not preventing S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 from being excellent on Xbox Series X running at 60fps according to DF, despite the fact that it can barely handle that game a stable 30fps at the moment."

We'll definitely see 😂

Knushwood Butt5h ago

Better is subjective, but pretty much anyone would agree that the haptics are excellent. I got the Returnal platinum months if not years ago, and just started from scratch again last night. The audio and haptics are first class.

Hofstaderman2h ago

No guarantee XBOX will even be around by then.

Gravesinger_1h ago

The inferior version is the console version no matter what console its on..PERIOD.

enough time to optimize for Xbox Series S

Hotpot22m ago

Should've used the resource to optimize for toaster instead, probably more would buy it on toaster than XB anyway.

P_Bomb10h ago

Hmm. Just a bit more than the 9 months The Medium was console exclusive.

TheNamelessOne10h ago

No wait on the PC end, so I'm happy.
