Muramasa: The Demon Blade - ZTGD Review

ZeroTolerance writes: Developer Vanillaware has become known for their vibrant art style and affection for old-school design. Muramasa: The Demon Blade is the latest from the same guys that brought us GrimGrimoire and Odin Sphere, and it looks to match the same level of care of both of those titles. With their latest effort we get the same attention to detail in the visuals department with plenty of action and a nonsensical story to round out the package. Like MadWorld and several others before it Muramasa is not your typical Wii game, in fact it doesn't even bother offering any type of motion controls, but what it does bring to the table is a gorgeous adventure that every Wii owner who appreciates classic gameplay should own.

and it is a great game, with great difficulty. I enjoyed it alot and is one of my top games for 09', behind KZ2 and the fighting games. Every "so called gamer" should have this game on their list.

I will get it soon enough , looks frigan awesome.

FamilyGuy5732d ago

This will be the first game i get when/if i ever get a wii.
If they price cut to something decent before this christmas i might see it's worth and pick one up.

Redempteur5732d ago

yet they gave 8.8 ?

Where is the problem ? really ..8.8 is damn low for such a great game

Homicide5732d ago

Because the combat lacks depth.

Redempteur5732d ago

lack depth ??
i personally disagree .
You can either button smash
or look for the right timing to chain combos .

I'm sorry but muramasa only " problem " is the lack of hd .. even that is not a problem since it's ... ON wii

I didn't get to play the full version like ZT, but Shane did walk me through the game at PAX. I think you're right that the combat is scalable - mashing and using just a few swords will get you far, but figuring out moves and which swords are best against particular bosses adds real depth.

Still, I felt like the game would function better as the subject of a history lesson (soooo much research went into this game!) than a rich gameplay experience. It was just missing a piece of the puzzle. But that's my impression from thirty minutes and one boss battle.

ZeroTolerance5732d ago

If you read the review you will see that I talk about the combat being both simple and complex, as well as claiming it to be one of the most beautiful games of this generation. 8.8 is a great score, and it fits for a great game. You can disagree with my score, but not for reasons I did not dock the score for.

Redempteur5732d ago

i think that's what i did ... i think your review was well done but i'm can't agree on the score ..

Go to your local Frys and pick this game up for only $39.99 on sale right now. Frys does this quite often with new releases.

[Interview] Vanillaware's George Kamitani Talks About His Influences And Upcoming Projects

Nintenderos: "We kick off our interviews this year with a very special one with George Kamitani, president of Vanillaware. In case you didn't know this study, it is the one behind games of the stature of Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Odin Sphere or Dragon's Crown. In addition to, of course, unforgettable titles like the wonderful 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim published by Atlus a few months ago."

Japanese games can help bring myths to life

How do you introduce people to folklore and fairy tales? Introducing people to mythology can be easy when they are young or in school, as such stories can sometimes be used to teach morals, introduce concepts that might be difficult for people to otherwise understand, act as warnings and get imaginations working. Once folks get older, it can be more difficult to get them engaged and interested in legends. Fortunately, some Japanese video games can step in to bridge the gap.
