ResumePlay: Dirt 2 Demo Impressions

ResumePlay's Sam Acton writes: "I had seen Dirt 2 on XBLM for a couple weeks and thought, "Hell, I'll give it a go." I loved Dirt; I loved the wide variety of Cars, Tracks and racing genres that were made available. I loved Codemasters' attention to detail with the smallest creeks and pops that the car would make if you were driving it under those conditions. I love that sense of nervousness that you get when you know you're going just the right speed to hit the time you want, the same sort of speed if you breathe wrong on the joy stick, you going in to the barrier. Well has Dirt 2 retained its same sense unyielding excitement?"

DIRT 2 démo presentation was great , almost perfect ..yet i didn't dug it ..it's definitly NOT a bad game ..but there is a serious competition for them

I've never been a racing fan...but the stated reason above is why I like Burn-Out so much.

Best racing game this gen so far imo been playing the demo on ps3 and 360 I've made over 300 laps on the baja track

the demo is CRAP! how can you take this preview seriously with this phrase:
"I can safely say that I have had more fun in this DEMO than I have ever had with any Gran Turismo game, or any other racing game for that matter.." ???

WTF is this dude talking about? if he is having so much fun with this demo over any racing game, he actually has never played any racing game his entire life!

I will not talk about any other racing game here but personally, I like the presentation in the 1st one better! the 2nd does not look that much better than the 1st, or I might just say they look un-distantly the same! honestly saying, even the PC screenshots with DX11 didn't impress me let alone this console counter-part demo. but this new look and new approach in DIRT2 especially the menu section...totally not serving the once great "true" rally game justice! there's also rewind features which I think is totally unnecessary and not to forget that it's too arcadey to be called a rally game, oh my bad, IT IS NOT A RALLY GAME! it's just GRID with off-road coatings!

the 1st DIRT was great and I was anticipating DIRT2. but now, I'm not going to get it. nicely done codemaster to ruin the colin Mcrae's name. thanks but no thanks

but I don't have an xbox anymore! I really enjoyed playing WRC extreme by evolution studios and previous Colin Mcrae's game and I love them all! but now the dude's gone, codemasters is going nuts with DIRT2! better of drop his name all together!

i just thought it was like every other racer i played

after another quick go of the demo, let me see

while my car is all over the place, lol the wonderful ai conctolled cars do there lovely robotic driving. even when i seem to be doing the same move, my car is drifting/sliding more

i only play inside view on car games and can usually pick up quick if the programmers put much thought into the inside driving view, ok so they did a good job, but the rumble hasnt been used right and it feels like your floating instead of driving

DIRT 2 is great if you use a steering wheel. I liked the forst one so as soon as the demo popped up I downloaded it. I don't have a wheel yet for my XBOX 360 (I have a Fanatec Porsche wheel on order so I can use it on my PS3, 360 and PC) so I played it on a joypad and didn't really enjoy it. The cars felt like they no weight, the steering felt like I had a steering wheel attached to a broom handle not connected to anything else. I was starting to doubt my pre-order for the 360 version with Amazon.

Then I downloaded it on my PS3 which I have a Logitech G25 hooked up to...wow! what a difference a force feedback wheel makes! it felt like a whole new game, the cars had weight, I could feed in precise ammounts of throttle and steering making it much more enjoyable, it actually felt like I was driving a car. I went from struggling to make it cleanly through a stage to sailing through with ease.

I'm gonna disagree with the first thing sam said (It besting GT, but then again this is just a demo) but I will give it credit. Its a decent game. I've seen better controls but it looks good and the feel of the race is definetly there.

I need to get the game rented to try more, but this is a pretty good game as far as I can tell.
