IGN Guitar Hero 5 Wii Review

IGN has reviewed the Wii version of the recently released Guitar Hero 5.

Product5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

My girl bought the game today and watching her (and me playing some songs) i can tell there is way more polish in every mode and the interface than last year.

Better than last year, so far for us.

Great score

Only bad part? You have to spend $60 dollars on the title for Wii (same price as the hd twins) instead of the normal $50, of course you are getting more modes and the Roadie Battle is a lot of fun.

qface645719d ago

dang 9.3 for this game a GH game nonetheless that's a surprise but not bad

60 dollars you say? for a wii game -_- no thanks not being cheap but i see no reason to pay 60 for it
then again this is activision so why am i surprised

Product5719d ago

This game is worth the $60 for me. I can see where you're coming from as no Wii game has ever been that much, but for me the amount of extra modes and polish in this game compared to last years World Tour is enough for me to pay the extra $10.

This game has more features than the hd twins for the same price.......im not even kidding, Roadie Mode is where it is at.

What the hell is IGN thinking? They rated the Wii version higher than the 360/PS3 version.

ulissesnascim5719d ago

Just read the review or even some of the comments and you'll know =]

tunaks15719d ago

to IzKyD1331
you know gh5 on the Wii has more modes...

sunnygrg5719d ago

But it still doesn't justify the $60 price tag. Damn that smirking dog at Activision.

Anyone who's played this care to explain how the solos work this time around? I hated the way they worked in World Tour. That one was all about the button mashing. It was also a LOT easier than GH3. How's the difficulty shaping up this time?

Edit: *reads review* Eep. He kind of panned the difficulty there too. Hmmm...

silkrevolver5719d ago

why does the Wii version have more modes? Whatever, it doesn't matter to me anyway. Ever since they tried to steal sales away from Harmonix by making Guitar Hero: world tour, I decided that the only music games I'll get....are Harmonix ones. Can't wait for Beatles!

NoBias5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

I like their style a lot more. GH is a great series though! It's what I started out on (obviously... haha) How are the hammer on's in this game? I hope their not insanely easy as GH3.

ulissesnascim5719d ago

Fanboyism blinds you, silkrevolver.

silkrevolver5719d ago

A fanboy for Harmonix? Yeah, I guess. They are the best at their genre and I enjoy their products more. I won't buy more than one music game a year, and if it's always GH vs RB.....then rockband it is!

Baka-akaB5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

Took them far too long to review the damn game imo ...
And i'm tired of Activision's shenanigans , they hype a song transfer from gh4 , but only today do you learn that only a small part is transferable .

I'm glad i held back my order , until i saw reviews , as it smelled fishy . Guess i'll just wait for a used copy someday

Dawn_Of_Ashes5719d ago

I played it today and didnt finished the carrer mode. I unlocked 4 venue and was tired. Guitar hero still sucks! Im happy that i didnt bought it (its a rental) cause at 60$, its a scam. The track listing sucks! the visual aspect still sucks, the game is too easy for me even at expert. I really hope they will stop to do guitar hero games

David Bowie PlayStation tribute - 5 games that feature the legend's music

PlayStation Universe takes a look back at some of the games and moments where David Bowie's music struck a chord in videogames.

TheCommentator3396d ago

Dance Magic, Dance. He will be missed. This is ground control to Major Tom, signing off...

Ended up doing quite well with ziggy stardust on GH; was only on medium but I still consider it an achievement 😃

KingofGambling3396d ago (Edited 3396d ago )

Wasn't David Bowie in a Quantic Dreams game during the PS2 era?

Five songs that owe Guitar Hero a massive debt

These tracks wouldn’t be half as big if it wasn’t for Activision’s button-shredding megafranchise.

btmgov3479d ago

The writer of this article is obviously musically incompetent. Free Bird, nor Lynyrd Skynyrd, owes debt to anyone concerning their music and especially concerning Free Bird. It is one of the greatest and most highly ranked songs in the history of rock music, not to mention it contains one of the top ten guitar solos in rock history. I realize that in order to be considered great in the music industry these days all you have to do is copy something that someone else did years ago, but you should do a little research before making totally ridiculous and inaccurate statements.

Funny, went to my Daughter's house over the weekend. We played Rock Band, first time in about two years. It was just as much fun as I remembered.

christianxbelland3809d ago

I honestly never thought I'd play Guitar Hero again and just by happenstance my family bought some used guitars. I'm having a real blast playing it.

Sayburr3809d ago

Never thought I would either, as much as I loved the game, I just stopped playing. Used to have "Rock Band Nights" at the house with bunches of people over... then, people just stopped coming and I just never got into the game as a solo person, it was always local multiplayer that was so fun... NOT WAS, IS so fun.

I am just not sure if the games are ready for re-release. I play RockSmith now... it is fun playing it solo since it is more of a practice simulator.

darthv723809d ago

This is the game that got my son into wanting to play a real guitar. He cant play this game anymore as it throws him off when he was so good at it years ago.

christianxbelland3809d ago

Like I said in my article, Guitar Hero is definitely one of the factors that pushed me to learn drums and, later down the line, piano. Guitar Hero gave me my first taste of how much fun musical expression is.

christianxbelland3809d ago

I've only dabbled in Rocksmith, but it was fun and pretty practical. I'm also not sure if rhythm games are ready for a comeback or re-release quite yet. I think something like "Guitar Hero: Reunion Tour" would do well if they try and cash in the nostalgic value.

Newmanator3809d ago

@ Sayburr: "Rock Band Night" was a frequently used term for me and my mates too !

Sayburr3808d ago

OH, man, I loved our Rock Band Nights. A few adult beverages, a couple of crock-pots of food, and (at the end) 1089 songs to choose from... and I was 41 at the time of release, an old geezer playing.

Things kinda fizzled out with RB3...

Newmanator3808d ago

Haha alcoholic beverages were a must - scores decreased but fun increased!
