Metroid Prime Pinball dated

Nintendo's finally stamped a big European date on Metroid Prime Pinball, which should arrive here on 22nd June.

It's a DS game that merges the popular series with an age-old arcade concept, as you might have guessed. But, it aims to innovate and entertain by spilling the action across both screens, and by letting you touch the bottom screen to bend the rules and tilt the table.

I look forward to the day any game beats that Super, Metroid or not.
Hollow Knight come damn near close to knocking Super Metroid from the top of my list, that’s a huge achievement for such a small team.

The problem for me is I’ve been waiting for a 2D Metroid that beats Super but I don’t think I’ll ever see that day. I still play the original 1-2 times a year and a few randomiser plays.

Fully agree with the list and all points it makes for each game. I’m expecting Dread to fit in the middle of that list but I’m happy to be wrong about that.

In a weird way, this one made perfect sense. Samus, of Metroid fame, is known for rolling in a ball to get through tight spaces. It is said that her birth was the easiest for any mother ever for this reason. Americans still have an affinity for pinball. Metroid tends to only succeed in the west. Jamming the two together to create a bumper and board game would be like peanut butter and chocolate. This thinking led to Silverball Studios’ underrated classic from the early DS lifespan that still holds up today, Metroid Prime Pinball.

Let's roll: comparing four Nintendo pinball games

VGS: "Pinball games, most people will probably turn up their nose at them, but in fact they can be really fun. Like puzzle games, I prefer to play them on handhelds, so that’s what all my pinball games are for. Here I give my thoughts on the four pinball games I played extensively enough to say something about them: Kirby’s Pinball Land on the Game Boy, Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire and Super Mario Ball on the Game Boy Advance and Metroid Prime Pinball on the Nintendo DS. As you can see, all of them are spin-offs of big Nintendo franchises, but which of these is the best?"
