Blasteroids, Gauntlet and The Last Ninja are just a handful of the unforgettable games that the legendary Commodore 64 console bestowed upon us. While these titles were top of the range in their heyday, they have unfortunately failed to withstand the test of time and are now merely ghosts of gaming's illustrious past. In actual fact, it's difficult to name many games that have featured in every console generation since the Commodore's launch in 1982. One gaming legacy that can boast this achievement however is the Wolfenstein series. It was 26 years ago this year that the first instalment was released in the form of Castle Wolfenstein. This latest release is actually the seventh addition to the long running series and we must admit it is a pleasure to see a classic performing such continuity.
One of the great things about Wolfenstein is that it has always remained true to its roots. Rarely does it stray from its military battle background and this has remained the case for the newest addition to the family. Wolfenstein is a sequel to Return To Castle Wolfenstein, which was released in 2001, but don't be put off if you have never played any of the series before. You would never know that this game had prequels due to the fantastic storyline. You start the game as B J Blazkowic who is an undercover spy on a German Nazi boat. Your mission is to sink the ship and make a clean getaway. When you are caught, however, it is a mysterious medallion which you find on your travels that comes to your rescue.
The great thing about being one of the most popular consoles of all-time is that there’s always more underappreciated bangers to spotlight.
I love Enslaved such a sleeper hit, Asuras Wrath a very good game I still own, and I wish EA would put out a new Dante's Inferno another game I enjoyed. I never heard of the Rain game I might have to try it out might give Ebay a snoop or two.
enchanted arms and folklore most definitely.
theres also a game about a red haired guy and a girl who is a sword or something. good game
Sometimes, you want a relatable villain who makes you question your own morality. Other times, you want Frau Engel.
It got old tbh. Machine needed a break from the IP. Indie is a good reprieve.
BLG writes, "There can be only one best Wolfenstein game. Since the franchise’s debut in 1981, the Wolfenstein series has graced our gaming platforms for over forty years. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true! In honor of that legacy, we’re going to list some of the best Wolfenstein games and the worst. That’s right: it’s the Wolfenstein games ranked."
Scheiße! Nein.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the best in the series. After that:
New Order
New Colossus
Old Blood
I really wish they'd remake Return to Castle Wolfenstein from the ground up. Easily the best of them all.
