Blizzard fail on announcing the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

The game just looks really, really dated and out of touch. I was terribly unimpressed. They would have been better off putting out one of their CG trailers.

Plz tell me one MMO game that has better artwork.
WoW doesn't need the polygons. Blizzard got the touch that makes the game beautiful.

And Blizzard has reused assets so many times in that game it's incredible to me that you can defend their artistic merit. Their recent armor-set recycling should be evidence of that. Look at the character models for humanoid enemies - all the same, with slightly different color palettes.

WOW did a lot of things right for it's time, but other MMOs, especially ones on the horizon are going to do a lot more while being exceptionally good looking. Aion and GW2 are testaments to that.

I've played WOW on and off for about 4 years now. I enjoy the game, but there are equally as exciting titles coming out over the next year. I don't know why people brazenly defend this game when it's clearly a little long in the tooth. There's no harm in trying something new. It's time, for me at least, to move on.

Edit: And have you even seen the GW2 trailer? There's no comparison between the two:

And GW2, in addition to having NO MONTHLY FEE will have a host of improvements over the original (higher level cap, more races, more classes, larger world, still tonnes of personal - your character appears in them - rendered cutscenes).

Thats bullsh1t. People have been hyping up other MMOs for year now claiming that they will be better then WoW. But fact is they have all failed. Some have been fun for a while but noone has managed to keep the game engaging for a longer period of time. You go play another MMO, have some fun, then after a month your bored and its back to WoW. Thats the general pattern, and i dont see anything in the upcoming MMOs that make me think this is going to change.

Blizzard has shown that artstyle > technical graphics. WoW looks alot better then most other MMOs out there even though they have better technical graphics. WoW is a razor sharp game. Beautiful color sharp edges and contrasts, while alot of other games out there just looks blurry and fuzzed up. Doesnt matter if its technically better when it looks like that.

Wrath of the Lich King failed to keep my interest longer than a month but I have to admit this new expansion is really exciting. I havent played wow in ages but I just might have to return for this.

I just started playing myself about a week or so ago (it gripped me when I did one of those 10-day trials that were advertised here on N4G). Pretty addicting without you even realizing that all sorts of time whizzed past.

Kind of wondering how they are going to do this catastrophe thing. I'm a big fan of post-apocalyptic stories, so I'll probably look into this one myself.
