Boom Blox Team Axed

EALA has laid off the Boom Blox team, developers of the Wii puzzle games created in collaboration with Steven Spielberg. The LinkedIn profile of Jeff Dixon has this brief explanation: "Jeff Dixon Has joined the ranks of the EALA departed. The Boom Blox team was laid off today." We spoke briefly with Jeff, who tells us that the team was working on a Natal launch title, and adds: "I strongly believe in the future of Natal." Jeff says 14 employees were cut, and we wish them the best of luck in their job hunts.

Nooooooooo! I love this game!

Maticus5169d ago

I so didn't...

Not surprised about this, but sorry for the people out of work

mabreu5169d ago

Sony should acquire them and make Boom Blox for their motion controller.

baum5169d ago

This is how profitable the Wii is for 3rd parties.

I told you it was getting worst. Big publisher are now in recoup mode. Something tells me these big publisher are abot give hd teams the ax also. IW seems to be the first one to go.

Mw2 proved the hardcore are sheep and dispute the yells of boycotting it sold thur the roof. Activision nolonger needs iw. So many aaa games are not worth the dev time to these pubs.

Believe what you will but it's not safe any more. It's put up or shut up time. What is crazy is we have not heard from the 3 that left retro ethier we wanted the concept artist bad too! Oh well. It's going to be rough going forward.

Buam please stop acting like this is the wii's fualt because it's not. Many many hd games just broke even. Hardcore gamers as a whole have let their industry down this includes the devs also.

A sad day for fans of innovative and interesting games.

Leord5169d ago

...and a regular day in EA management...

TheLastLevel5169d ago

You sir deserve bubbles.

My condolences to the devs and their families.

Wow, the first Boom Blox did really well, the second one did worse but still not bad...

it also seems odd to shut them down half way through a project(probably Boom Blox Natal, especially consider Spielberg).

Smacktard5169d ago

Uh... WHY were they laid off? Boom Blox did absolutely FANTASTICALLY and Bash Party did very well too, considering that it was put out only a year after Boom Blox, and largely remained the same.

all he is missing is modern warfare: reflex edition under mature and this is a pretty solid list. Glad to see this year is nothing like 2008. Wii owners have selection this time... and good stuff too.

5 Best Nintendo Wii Games that Nobody Played

Bright Hub writes: "The Wii is the most popular game system in America and publishers are doing the best to get as many games out for the system as possible. While this shotgun approach to game design may result in a large number of available titles for the system, it inevitably leads to some great games getting lost in the shuffle and some gamers missing out simply because they never had a chance to check out an excellent game.

Fortunately, we here at Bright Hub have furiously scoured the Wii's back catalog to dig up some unsung gems from the system's library. These great games may never have achieved large sales numbers, but they remain among the best for the system."

i guess I am a "nobody" then as I have 3 of those 5 games.

Smacktard5309d ago

This guy's lists are great. He pretty much nailed it again, but it's unfortunate that Mercury Meltdown Revolution didn't make this list (although it did make another one of his lists!)

I have 4/5 of those games, they're all great, to say the least. I played Super Paper Mario and didn't like it, so that's the only reason I didn't buy it.

M_Prime5309d ago

i owned all of them and played them all..

zak and wiki was kinda meh once you finish it there is no replay.. paper mario was boring, geometry wars was fun, boom blox was okay though lost its charm after a lil bit, and Madworld looked awsome but i got bored after 30 mins of gameplay.

there is 2 games on my wii that i love.. SMASH BROS, and NO MORE HEROES.. Travis Touchdown is da sh!t.

also mario galaxy was fun.. though playing as Luigi is a bit hard.

Cajun Chicken5309d ago

GWG and NMH or my fav games on my Wii. I'd even be controversial and say that NMH is better than Madworld.

darthv725309d ago

is how you can play the full geo wars retro on the ds from dl it off the wii version.

BootHammer5309d ago

The shotgun approach to producing games has only done one thing...create massive amounts of craptastic titles on the Wii. What in the heck happened to the Nintendo Seal of Quality?? Point and click and puzzle games are something most people play for free online.

The funny thing is that I can't think of even 5 games I really like on this system. The launch titles like Zelda, Metroid and Mario galaxy were great, and the recently released Punch out was also terriic. Well that's 4 games... and how long has this system been out, lol.

The new Metroid game looks promising as well as the Super Mario Wii coming out soon but other than that its a wash unless you love kiddie games.

asdr3wsfas5309d ago

I own 34 wii games. Most are puzzlers that involve twisting the wiimote (marble/mercury/boom blox series) or rail shooters or stuff like trauma center that can't be done on other systems. I played pc games for years but this system hits the spot. I can think of 5+ nintendo games that are universally acclaimed, let alone 5 total.

Smacktard5308d ago

ITT: people who don't understand that Nintendo doesn't make every Wii game ever, and that the Nintendo Seal of Quality doesn't really mean anything, and never did.

The most popular console always gets a ton of shovelware. Fact. It happened with NES, SNES, GB, GBA, PS1, and PS2. Now it's happening with Wii. See a pattern? They all were the most popular consoles at the time.

Mahr5309d ago

The correct choice for this sort of thing is Little King's Story, which I suspect even less people played than any of the games on this list.
