Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 PlayStation 3 retail pack relisted and reduced on GameStop

The retail listing of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 at GameStop.com has reappeared. It's actually a voucher/code for the download from the PlayStation Network. The listing on GameStop originally surfaced by surprise back in late June.

You can see from the GameStop listing, it's now at $14.99 rather than the previous $19.99. Included items also appear to have changed from the previous listing. It looks like there is some kind of bonus from the package art, but the extra items are no longer listed at GameStop.com.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is scheduled to debut on the PlayStation Network this Thursday for $14.99.

No extra contents? that sucks, oh well 5$ off is still good

40cal5754d ago

The retail pack contains a code to download Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and according to a Capcom-Unity forum poster a DVD case, eight page color manual, one month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, and 2000 Capcom-Unity points for $14.99. It looks like the media disc containing wallpapers isn’t part of the bundle anymore.

Holy Crap!, So glad I didn't buy this on XBL. Jeez, If I had Known that there was a retail version I wouldn't have bought a PSN card.
Well, I know which version I'll get, It'll go great with my game collection.

Hopefully, it will have all that has been stated above. But what I don't get is how come they didn't officially announce the PS3 retail version before releasing it on XBL?

dragunrising5753d ago

Now that the extras are gone, I'm buying the game off of PSN.

Kamikaze1355754d ago

Ah, just kidding', it's the same game...but I still get a cool box for my collection =D

OGharryjoysticks5754d ago

I bet downloads would sell more if there was an extras package you could buy at a store for the same ammount.

20 Years Ago, Marvel vs Capcom 2 Delivered a Legendary Crossover

Everyone is trying the shared universe thing these days, but Marvel and Capcom were mashing up their most beloved characters decades ago. Perhaps their best crossover effort was Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, which was released on the PlayStation 2 & Xbox on Nov. 19, 2002, in North America. Previous releases took place in arcades and on Sega’s beloved but ill-fated Dreamcast console. Later releases came out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360’s digital storefronts.

Former employees of Backbone Entertainment have formed a new company called Digital Eclipse. On Twitter studio head Mike Mika confirmed they would love to help the fans. In addition to having ported MvC 2 before, the studio has worked with Disney on re-releases of the Disney Afternoon Collection, Aladdin and The Lion King. Legions of fans are waiting for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to take them for one more ride.

Please work it out. I have fond memories of this fighter game. Not to mention the sequels just aren't as balanced as this game was.

Absonite1332d ago

Balance? MvC2?! It was totally batshit unbalanced, but that's what made it fun.

sourOG1332d ago

I laughed hard at balance lol. It is completely f***ing broken. Balance isn’t what people are looking for. Mk11 was the most balanced MK ever and the overall consensus was “restrictive and boring”.

PurpHerbison1331d ago (Edited 1331d ago )

For the noobs and average players it can be seen as balanced but at the highest competitive level it is absolutely broken. There was a ratio mod released recently that is actually pretty interesting and allows way more of the cast to see some play.

RedDevils1331d ago

You can always balance my bank account.

Teflon021332d ago

No one cares about balance in MvC2. Games all about being unbalanced lol. If it was, it likely wouldn't be good

Lexreborn21332d ago

MvC2 is so unbalanced pros make special brackets to limit the amount of clone teams this game has at high levels. Even now Justin Wong and others have only been playing with the character cost format to make it interesting.

CrimsonWing691332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

Did you ever play as Cable or play someone else who was using Cable? This is an incredibly unbalanced game and honestly some of the most fun is making a redonkulous team and just clapping cheeks.

KwietStorm_BLM1331d ago

Balanced... Storm, Sentinel and Magneto breathe a sigh of relief.

I really enjoyed the game on Dreamcast.

A lot less when it was later re-released on newer systems, because I believe all characters were already unlocked instead of you playing to unlock them. The SP experience on those re-releases was just ‘less’ than the Dreamcast version, which was a bit disappointing.

Would love a proper HD remake/remaster, if given the care & love it deserves (instead of a quick cash-grab with a mediocre port).

Would also love to see Capcom release a FullHD port/renaster/remake of Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (psp).

Teflon021332d ago

Seeing the Alpha games storyline is being promoted in SFV, with all the mainline titles, it really should get one

WiiU-Dude1332d ago

I'm very interested in this.

Vandamme211332d ago

Why not just make a new game

CrimsonWing691332d ago

Well, they uh… tried that already and…

BlaqMagiq11331d ago

They did. And it was extremely mediocre.

PurpHerbison1330d ago

Not sure what you mean though. Marvel 3 was pretty damn good and Marvel Infinite was too. Infinite just suffered from poor graphics but the gameplay and netcode was actually pretty solid.

FallenAngel19841332d ago

I want them to rerelease the entire Marvel vs Capcom series on modern platforms, from X:Men Children of the Atom to Marvel vs Capcom 2

I’d also love for the next Marvel vs Capcom title to live up to its series legacy rather than being a disappointment like Infinite

CosmicTurtle1332d ago

I said the same thing without seeing your comment. X-Men vs Street Fighter and MSH were stunning games. They look great to this day.

I did not mind MvC3 and ultimate but the last entry was dire.

Godmars2901331d ago

And I want them to go back to 2D - know THAT'S not happening!

Nice compromise would be something stylized towards what Guilty Gear does than their own attempts at 3D.
