New FFXIV details surface, no leveling system

Square Enix's forthcoming new MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, will not feature experience points or a leveling system, according to a video interview published by Famitsu.

Instead of a traditional MMO or RPG leveling process, players will progress more naturally based on their experiences in game, with an emphasis on character growth, explained FFXIV's director Nobuaki Komoto.

But that's one of the reasons why I love playing these kind of games! ><

This could be interesting. Instead of saying i cant to to place A because i don't have the necessary lvl. It could be based more on i've been to place B and have this new armor, crystal, guide ets. and i can enter this area.

I think this is just gonna be really item based. People always said the wanted to have more interactive armor and weapons etc. I think this is where they are leading to.

Agreed SubZero it could be the same way Monster Hunter is, or could it could be the way Last Remnant is. Monster Hunter gaining new armor and weapons after defeating certain enemies (though don't think you will craft the weapons and armor from them, but I surely would not dismiss the possibility.)

Or Last Remnant way which is to gain enhances to Strength, HP, Will, and Intelligence as you progress throughout the game. Either way should be interesting to see what will happen.

After learning of the new Job system it all the more makes me want to get into the closed beta whenever they announce it.

Think about this guys, they say there is no leveling system, but any game, especially a MMORPG that is not action base will rely heavily on statistics.

These statistics will determine which player is stronger. These stats are now base on different weapon skills. These weapon skills need to be "worked on", that means there is going to be level, but rather this time it will be Weapon and Armor levels, not personal job levels.

So don't discount leveling so fast, it will be a different kind of leveling and u will be killing the same monsters over again and again, there is certain formula u cannot deviate from in a certain Genre, FPS u have something to shoot at, non-action base MMORPG u have stats to gain and improve.

U cant get away from "leveling"
