Users force Dell to resurrect XP

Responding to customer demand Dell has restarted selling new PCs with Windows XP installed on them.

The decision reverses a policy begun in January that meant Windows Vista was the only operating system available on almost all new home machines.

The change came after Dell's feedback site was swamped with calls for the return of the venerable software.

Now customers can opt for the Home or Professional version of XP on six models of Dell machines.

it's not free. You still pay for it in the "bundle"...i expect buying a pc with XP is cheaper than buying one with Vista...by about £50

Well i already knew that Windows Vista would not sell that well, i expect that in a year's time, more people will buy a computer with Windows Vista. As of now i think me and many other people are very happy with Windows XP.

Dell's going back to the XP instead of the Vista, I mean, how BAD can Vista be?!.... I have the Vista on my new laptop build-in, well, Im not all impressed, but I thing it's kinda better than XP, but not by much.....

It's not that Vista is a bad OS. It's that lots of companies are giving vista a bad press and obviously most people follow the crowd. Take for example all the anti-microsoft fanboys here.. they keep saying, "Vista Sucks"... ask them why... lol.

I mean come on people. Give MS a break, Vista isn't that bad. It's just new. I remember the same thing happened with Windows XP. Just give it some time.

Eventually you will all get Vista (well most people anyway).
You propably think I'm a MS fanboy, but no I'm a Playstation supporter. But even I have to disagree with all this negative stuff on Vista.

it is a good OS BUT the thing that made me go back to Windows XP Home is the fact alot of my software that i NEED doesnt work, and it annoys me when it mainly the software i had to buy!

XP compared to win95 which the common user had back in the days were xp startet to sale was a big differnce, with xp you did not need to install alot of your old drivers they were in the new system, so many ppl found it naturale to change to xp because off how easy and user freindly it was compared to win95 or 2000. this is not the same with vista. it is so more complex and you realy need to understand how it works or you can realy skrew many things up.. i guess the common dont want it to more safe for the price of complexity :-))

in the end we the consumers will dictate policy. Vista is nothing more than a graphical enhanced version of XP bloated with DRM. In order to entice us into swallowing that bitter pill, MS added a little sugar called DX10...and only made it available on Vista. Dell is getting just a taste of how people disfavor having Vista shoved down our throats. As far as corporations go, they are not very happy about some the migration issues and problems with having to rebuy software that is no longer compatible with the newer OS. I for one have NO plans for using Vista as my main OS...if anything I will dual boot and ONLY use Vista for gaming when Crysis comes out.

But I thought that was just an isolated incident. o_o Yeah, I'm hoping that I get to use XP for a long, long time. Also, I don't feel like upgrading my CPU and GPU just to run Vista properly.
