Worthplaying: The Conduit Review

The Conduit may be the most significant title to date for the Wii, without being particularly novel or innovative in its genre. The other, recent important Wii game was almost surely Mad World, which on several levels was indeed novel, but it lacked accessibility not only for the bulk of Wii owners, but even for some core gamers who found neither the graphical style nor the content suitable to their taste.

I really like the game, but even I think that's a little high (there was one other review that would've translated to a 9, too). However, it's understandable where the reviewer is coming from -- third parties don't have any more excuses for shoddy-looking ports with tacked on waggle. HVS embarrassed a lot of bigger dev teams, and for that, they deserve props.

But I agree with the part about Conduit's plot. Too many reviewers got stuck on that meme, while the standard "humans vs. aliens" scenario works fine and gets good marks in other games (and lets not pretend Halo was Chaucer or anything).

OTOH, "making yet another (gameplay) jump could be asking too much"?
That comment is laughable. How anyone prefers dual analog over faster, more precise IR control...well, that's beyond me. Diff'rent strokes, I guess. But complaining about a fully customizable setup seems strange (especially since the reviewer is an old school PC shooter, where this level of customization is old hat).

Hell, if you want more dual analog-esque controls, just tinker under the hood. Put the camera on the Drudge or Trust instead of Human.

This is what I would give the game also. A solid 9. I treat this game like quake 3 along with the effort of a small team like HVS working on the Wii to do things other simply said could not be done. This is what game development is about folks and they made a really solid game and did not throw there own wants and limits into this game which makes it FPS gold.

The story is a conspiracy story and seriously you don't want to get into those too much LOL. I played it as a online shooter period. I played the single player as a test to see what they could do and are currently working on. Also the dumb ai for the humans is because they are puppets right? The druid are not that dumb at all. The level designers need to play more HL though if they want this story to work better. Yet I have to say it is better than the halo story in my eyes.

The game gets a 9 because of how much they delivered on the hardcore experience for online FPS. This game along prove why metroid should have it and why red steel 2 should have it. Yes some games don't need it but if we are talking about FPS nothing is better than human controlled opponents.

Another thing all of these review forget is the game gets better when you get better, which is classic hardcore gamer game play. Play the game and tweak your set up online and you will see what I'm saying.

When a game creates a standard it should not go any lower than a 9. This game did that with online play along. To me the single player was a bonus. This is the first FPS since quake 3 that was about the controls and playing online period. HVS did their job this time.

Splatoon 2 Shows Off What Wii Shooters Should Have Been

There’s a consensus about Splatoon 1 that cannot be disputed: motion controls are the way to play. The Wii U Gamepad had its many problems on the system as a whole, but along with the way in which the touch screen was implemented in the first game like I mentioned in my last piece, using the Gamepad’s gyroscope was deemed a superior way to play compared to traditional joystick control.
