I think the ps2 selling better than next-gen consoles is more of a benefit for Sony. The same people who are buying ps2's now are going to be the same people buying ps3's at the end of it's life cycle. That's how you know ps3 is going to be around alot longer than expected. I also don't think the ps3 isn't doing so bad because for a system that has a high price tag and suposely no games it has three million worldwide. Plus Sony has to focus on the ps2, psp and ps3 while Microsoft only has to focus on the 360, Imagine God of war 2 coming out for the ps3 in the fall. I think, even with it's price tag there are alot of people out there that want a ps3 right now but are just anxiously waiting for Sony to give them a reason to buy one(Lair, Heavenly Sword, Home). Is that people talk about the 360 selling 200,000 units in a month with no major game releases and almost a year and a half after it releases as a BAD thing, when the PS3, supposedly the hot new, REAL HD, next gen machine only sold 130,000 less than 6 months after its release. I guess people don't even want it as a cheap Blu-Ray player. So, yeah, factor in some comsumers waiting for an elite, and the sales spikes the 360 will see later this year with Mass Effect, Bioshock, Forza 2, and especially Halo 3, and I think the 360 is doing o.k. Things WON'T continue as they are. When the PS3 outsold in Europe, the fanboys declared the PS3 winner: then sales numbers drop, and they start making excuses. Those numbers will continue to fall: and they at some point they will rise.

In order to gain developer support, you will need to have a large install base in Japan as well as Europe. 360 will not be a failure (Thats a fact) but they will not win this console war. If you have been paying attention to Microsofts strategy, Microsofts knows that in 2008 they are completely screwed. Halo 3 madness will be over and there will be NO Grand Theft Auto 4 for any of the consoles..... So what do you think the 360 is going to do then? Well by then all of the attention will be nodding over to PS3, cause at the very least PS3 will have more world wide sales in the industry.

Now by the time PS3 gains its momentum that will be the end of the 360 regime. By that time arrives, Blu Ray will for surely be the standard in the industry making the PS3 an even more Value as time goes on. Just imagine what the outcome will be when the PS3 drops in price? 130,00 can easily be 230,000. Now with the 360 coming out with an Elite version, it technically rises the price of the system. A direct attack from Sony would be to drop the PS3 price to $499, introducing a new BIGGER hard drive and things will be different.

No matter how you look at the situation, when the elite version of the 360 comes out sales of the Premimum version will dip, the elite version will be the standard version to buy. This makes sense for the PS3 to drop the price to $499.99

Also PS2 total North America Sales were 45 Million
Xbox total North America Sales were 15 Million

This consoles war is BY far in its infatile stages.

I think last we read, MS is making $75 per console, while Sony was losing something like $200. So if Sony lowers their price, MS can counter and be even close to that < $250 magic number.

Then you keep painting a pretty picture on the sales number. No matter how you put it, they are not that good. Japan is down to like 14k units sold and keeps decreasing, but yes its SOOOO much higher than the 2.9k 360s. And in NA, 360 is still outselling the PS3.

Just want to point out that, If PS2 outselling Wii and XBOX 360, that's not a good thing for nexgen. XBOX 360 may lost it demand, but with the new Elite coming up, it will definately bump up the sales.

As for PS3, 130k is not a bad news, keep in mind they still have PS2 up there. As long Sony kept mainstream consumer away from XBOX 360 and Wii by getting PS2, Sony's strategy is working. If Sony managed to delay the transition, it's gonna work in Sony favor. With Mainstream more comfortable with Sony brandname, When PS3 is ready to take over with price cut and more games, it will definately make a good impact.

All last year, we all had to listen to X360 owners bragging about how well there console was doing. "WOOHOO, we're so good, we sell heaps and enjoy having no competition."

Now PS3 is out and has actually exceeding expectations despite what haters think. No one thought an expensive machine with hardly any games and 2 years worth of bad press on its back would do as well as it has. Its selling just as quick as XB did its 1st year or even better.

So why are Xbox owners still not happy? They harp on and on about out selling PS3 every month in the Good Ol USA but no one stops to realise Xbox is in its 2nd year, and every single console in history has sold more its second year, than its first, and its still cheaper, and still has more games. You should be outselling PS3. But you should be doing it by alot more. Maybe thats why you sound so nervous. They (PS3) actually had an 18% drop in sales. The sales were tracked for 5 weeks instead of 4. It really needs a price drop NOW. The kids on this site can say what they want , unfortunetly the PS3 isn't failing in North America , it has already failed. They need to stop worrying about the XBOX 360 (which had mediocre sales , though it outpaced it's last year total for this same month. ) and at least try to keep the platform (PS3) viable in North America. It's just plain bad , no software will be able to save it in the US at this point , it needs drastic price cuts to stay competitive.

The PS3 already dipped that low in two months In a row. The PS line hasnt done that since probably back when ps1 came out and they had no competition. Same thing with PS2, till xbox and gc came out they had already sold almost 9 mil in America alone. So far after all 3 launches they are back to 20 to 25k a week and if these keeps up I am sorry but devs and movies BR makers will not be able to make enough money. Let's be serious and think for a moment. The PS2 line in America lost to the Xbox1 3 months from 01 to 06. Starting in Sep 04. It took xbox1 over 3 years to even win 1 month.
FWD to today. Dammm Xbox has won all 5 months in a row. The greatest and best PS the PS3 now has lost all 5 months in a row 1.189 mil to 2.362 mil.

That is why alot of news come out as to why the PS3 isn't selling. Yes its selling but no where near PS2 numbers. Remember sony saying we are on track to sell 6 mil by March ending 07.? Well that went and gone. With under 3mil sold. How do you think Blue ray got so many supporters. Do you think sony would of said "ohh we will sell 20k a week so we need all your support and movies on Blue Ray". NO Sony must of brought the mighty PS2 numbers and companies fell for it. It's not just us looking at numbers but the press and many many more companies. Today is different people. They made there bed and they will lay in it. Stop comparing PS2 to PS3 or x360. It's like comparing a 20k honda accord to a 35k BMW. You just can't say them in the same sentence.

I find it interesting that the big reason that the PS3 was said to fail was its price.

Sony drops the 20GB model in NA because people where not buying it so kind of means that logic was false since the more expensive model was in far greater demand then the cheaper model.

In addition MS then comes out with an even more expensive SKU. Is that not counter productive to gaining market share if the guy who has the cheapest console wins?

Hell if you ask me MS should be dropping the price of the Premium and Core 360 by $100. Instead I have the feeling they will keep it right where it is and make money until Sony drops the price of the PS3 and they will counter to keep the margin what it is.

Fact is the numbers for March are not that great for Sony but then again they are not that great for MS either. It does not matter what the reasons is, be it lack of games or people waiting for a new SKU.

MS sales will increase when the new SKU comes out and the PS3 sales will go up when all the next round of games come out.

Anyone with brains knows that both Sony and MS have deep pockets and are not going to throw in the towel in the next few months. They are both in this for the long haul and everyone will have a much better picture of how well MS and Sony are doing after the coming Christmas season. Trying to predict a winner from one months sales figures is silly and both sides are just going to spin it to make their side look like its doing better then the other. In the end its all just spin and the reality is something we will start to get a much better picture of next year.

Some Sony haters/ MS fanboys are really really picky. If you hate Sony you shouldn't be posting "HAHAHA the PS2 IS OUT SELLING THE PS3", either way, Sony wins if they still sell more than the competition, no matter what console it is. The more PS2's sold, the more time Sony has to give the PS3 a price cut and more games (which is stupid that people are complaining about that, this early in the PS3 lifespan as if no other system was expensive at first and lacked games in it's few months before). So to the fanboys: stop talking as if the PS2 selling well is a negative for Sony, unlike MS & nintendo, they haven't given up on their last gen system and is still expecting it to do well. stop trying to portray a Sony success as a Sony failure. If you're really going to hate Sony then hate ALL their systems and EVERYTHING they have, if not then stop bit<hing. I'm sure Microsoft would LOVE to have both systems selling well over 100k, then maybe they wouldn't be losing 5+ billion dollars in their console venture. I'd be suprized if the Xbox sold more than 5000 consoles in america over the last month.

BTW: Sony is in the lead in console market and they profit more selling a single PS2 than MS does selling a single Xbox360.

in comparison to this years sales, you can see that 200,000 is really an average month when no real games are released. Even though the sales figures are slightly lower this month, MS wont be too worried.

Compare these numbers to the PS3 and surely any fanboy can see that the PS3 is selling poorly. Sales will pick up but at the moment there is something about the PS3 that is turning consumers away. Is that price? lack of games? it would be difficult to say, probably a combination of both.

first place - Nintendo - Everyone at that company must be walking around with a huge smile of their face.

second place - MS - Content with their own sales figures in the face of heighten competition

third place - Sony - Asking themselves, should we have launched the PS3 later?

I suppose this fight will continue every month (day) until the end of the 360 and Ps3 lives. I would think that this argument is ridiculous but its far worse than that.

Guys are arguing their system is better when its only been out 4 months with a few games.

Other guys are arguing about their system having more games when its been out 12 months longer than its competitor.

If the 360 was so awesome and changed whoever played its life so much I doubt the PS2 would be outselling it by 90,000 consoles.
