Atari Founder: Xbox 360 Has the Advantage, PS3 Not Compelling

Speaking in an interview over at gaming blog Joystiq, Atari and Chuck E. Cheese founder Nolan Bushnell has once again expressed his disappointment with the PlayStation brand.

Bushnell-who previously had said that the PlayStation's success was an "accident"-reiterated that Sony was simply in the "right place at the right time" with the original PlayStation.

"It wasn't that they had put together an incredible product, they just filled a void that the market had at the time," he said. "Consumers wanted a new gaming system, and Sony was there. There weren't really any other choices as far as the technology available, at the time."

you mean those guys that help crash the entire game industry in the early 80's.

The ones who released a pathetic 64-bit system that got slaughterd in both gameplay and graphics by the 16-bit systems.

The same Atari that only exists as a letter head for Infogrames to pawn it's grabage?

That Atari?

Marriot VP6648d ago

what does the atari founder know about video games anyways....?

Scythesean6648d ago

He knows nothing he just sits in a dark room watching kids all across america in his Chuck E. Cheese play in the ball pit.

Boink6648d ago

this should bring in the sony defenders by the boatload,

it's just one guys opinion, no the word of god, relax boys:)

BubblesDAVERAGE6648d ago

All the new systems are great. This guy is just on the FUD train. Do we ever hear this much FUD about 360 even though they commonly break down at least 30 percent of the time. No we dont this is just developers not wanting sony to be number one again.

They will have fired close to 20,000 people all up after this round of lay-offs coming, since the ABK deal announcement in January 2022. Shocking really

January 2023:
Microsoft laid off 10,000 employees, which was a significant workforce reduction.

January 2024:
Approximately 1,900 gaming employees were laid off following the Activision Blizzard acquisition.

May 2025:
Microsoft announced a further 6,000 layoffs as part of an organizational shift.

June 2025:
Additional layoffs, including 650 in the gaming business, focused on corporate and support functions

Xbox hasn’t laid off 20000 employees. Do they even have 20000 employees?

Terry_B1h ago

Microsoft has over 230000 employees.

And over 95% of them don’t work at Xbox

It's not that shocking considering these numbers aren't just Xbox numbers as you're deliberately trying to make it seem for some reason.

Interestingly, another no shocking fact is that whenever Microsoft releases its quarterly earnings reports, you're quick to point out that those numbers aren't exclusive to Xbox. Yeah... go figure.

Let's hope its not as bad as socials are making it, good luck to those that unfortunately lose their jobs.

It might not even be real lol

As a kid i had some heart attacks playing this game. The soundtrack right on point with those close calls. I love this game.

shadowhaxor17h ago

Agreed. I still love it and play it often. Still sucks that Disney was like, nah... this game didn't do well, when it did well against other racers and reviewed well.

MaximusPrime_16h ago

Split/Second was one of the game I enjoyed playing. In fact it's still the most popular video on my YouTube channel. It's a gameplay of Split/Second posted 15 years ago. This past month 25 people viewed it. Split/Second is a favourite amongst racing gamers worldwide.

AuraAbjure13h ago

This game was super awesome and hella fun playing split-screen with the homie. Trashing your friend’s car during split-screen competition using one of those QuickTime events was so funny haha

wesnytsfs9h ago

That and Blur both deserve a sequel, they came out within days of eachother.
