Ghostbusters controversy - blown out of proportion?

Europe-Nintendo writes "It has been reported by many sites that the PS3 version of the game was rendered at 75% of the resolution that the 360 version is. And then it was reported that there was a mistake, and that the PS3 version was actually a mere 56% (!) of the 360 version's resolution. Based on this, it's safe to say that the PS3 version of Ghostbusters is inferior to the 360 version (even Terminal Reality themselves admitted it). But exactly how inferior is the PS3 version? Is it enough to make the average Ghostbusters fan/PS3 owner want to get a 360, or is it even noticeable? This is what you're (hopefully) going to find out from this article."

May I ask in ALL seriousness...how the HELL you are meant to see the difference in resolutions of a game, when the source images are not 1280 by 720!? All are downsized to a lower resolution - making BOTH blurrier. How stupid is that? The iamges after this link, have an original size of 790 by 444. WTF

If you want to see the difference you need to see the DIRECT FEED images at 1280 by 720.

I own the PS3 version and I have to say I do not see the level of sharpness that is in the 360 version, The PS3 version does look a little worse in stills.

However in motion I don't notice at all, the only thing I DO notice is the lack of burning embers when you burn a wall or whatever.

This game is awesome, you shouldn't care if one looks a little better.
Im happy with my game on the PS3 and I think its a good one to boot.

If your basing your purchase soley on graphics then go with the 360.

I don't own a 360 never have never will, the controller drives me crazy (i know Im too old) but it does look better.

The game is good you guys that are upset should try it anyway, I bet the slighted graphics don't even matter, at least they havent to me anyway.

I said that in order to make a TRUE multiplat comparison, you MUST NOT mention which system each picture is from.

If there are some MAJOR graphical problems in one version, then you point it out which version has the problems in the NEXT article.

I can guarantee you people won't be finding as much "faults" as they do now. People won't want to talk crap about which pictures belong to which consoles because they'll look like a fool if the next article shows that they were wrong.

its very noticable there are lots of sites comparing screens shots showing this. if you owned both systems there be no reason to get it on the ps3. however must people only own one or the other and will just get it for the system they own

And for the record, I blame the developer first for making a crappy game on a platform that has seen tons of better games. And I MIGHT blame Sony second for being that much more difficult to develop on that it would make a difference... but I really don't have first-hand experience to support that.

I could never understand the moaning when Sony tried to save an IP they owned in PAL territories from totally disappearing for God knows how long. Now I don't get why people are moaning about this either-nobody was even bothered about the game til the first controversy and now a lazy dev with lass than honest PR has stirred the pot again about a game not many here-even those whining in either direction will actually bother playing let alone buying.

Fact is this dev team have let themselves and the PS3 only gamer down very badly indeed-this kind of failure is unnacceptable esp these days when we know what the sysytem can really do(i.e games that look better than any on the other consoles-though admittedly that may be because of the time Sony allow their devs to work on games(MS gave Epic 2 years for Gears2, Sony gave GG 4 for KZ2 even after the success and failure of the previous games in those two series-which is what I mean)).

I might rent it when it arrives for 360 in the EU but I doubt it as by then there'll be lots of more attractive games on the market, games which haven't sold ANYONE short.

Another point is that if they can get away with shortchanging PS3 gamers this time it could be 360 or Wii the next as a dev that cuts corners and fails to "get" tech is always likely to mess up again when they think they can talk their way round it. No buy for me then-I just will not support people who are plainly crap at their jobs.

Most multiplats actually have been scoring higher on the PS3, but the difference have been slight. You know what that says to me? That says both versions are pretty near IDENTICAL. Surely if one platform was always better than the other we'd see that reflected in review scores, but it isn't happening. Get over it.

As far as I can see with this debacle the main problem is the PS3 apparently being the lead platform according to the developers. Although, it is clear that it isn't, the developers hyped up using the PS3 to the max and willing to experiment with it, again, clearly, they didn't.

Of course, it has been blown out of proportion as I really fail to see the differences, except in one screenshot the texture on a rug was awful and I couldn't see the ribs on the back of the tubing of the backpacks. Just sounds like a case of the PS3 version being rushed to market again.

I'm not even thinking about getting Ghostbusters and haven't since I heard about it, just sounds like something that wouldn't translate good into a game. Might see about borrowing or renting it.

Xbox Live? Sony's getting pretty close. What I'm getting at is MS doesn't make games, and until they do I don't give a dam about how many extra pixels a game I can buy on both systems has on the 360.

I just don't respect MS' strategies, or the fact that they almost totally lack 1st party studios. Throwing money at companies to steal exclusivity does not help the gaming public whatsoever, especially when its DLC.

i dunno tbh. there been plenty of multi-plats that have been a more technical achievement and looked good on both formats. this is just really poor development by the guys working on the ps3 version.

If it was the next big technical game out there then maybe you could argue that it's to do with which console has more power bla bla bla but in this case i think it's just down to poor developers. This being their first 'next gen' game as far as i'm aware also explains a lot. especially when the game is out on many formats meaning the team will be split. Then the pressure of the ghostbusters sony license has pushed them to release a terrible version of the game

Just lazy, crap devs. What can you do? They're aiming, like anyone making a milti platform game, to get them running, looking and playin the same on both consoles. Other devs manage this pretty much perfectly-honestly this is the first game in an age where there's been a real difference in either direction.

If everyone else, using less time in 90% of cases, can manage near parity, even leading on the 360, then what does it say about these fools? It's not like the 360 version looks like Uncharted 2 now is it?

So far the majority of the professional game reviewers out there would strongly disagree with you. They're saying this game is with your money. Slightly blurred textures don't ruin a fun game.

I'm going by what I've seen myself Darks me old mate and not what the critics have said. Are you blown away by the visuals in the game? I'm not and wouldn't croos the road to see 'em again no matter what the platform.

What makes it worse for me is I'm an older gamer and a big, original fan of the films and before all the crap over the Sony PAL territories buy out was one of the VERY few who were even interested in the game.

The gaming press, for what it's worth, have been eager for this game for ages-I guess the average age of games journos is higher than one might at first think-and so far the scores have been pretty charitable from what I've seen of them AND the game itself.

Also, if a developer cannot achieve the biggest aim of a multi plat(making it look and play he same on each platform)then , I'm sorry, they don't deserve much-esp when lots of what they say turns out to be complete BS. Exactly where were they "pushing" the PS3 version? Down a fekkin' drain?

I know you aren't being funny here and nor am I so please don't think I am. I just don't happen to think very much of what I've seen(and less of what I heard from the devs)-it might be a better than average movie related game but that's about it from where I'm sat. I guess we'll have to agree to differ over this one.

As I put on another article I wouldnt worry if I was a PS3 owner as the game doesnt look much different than the 360 version. If im not mistaken but didnt Tomb Raider Underworld run in a higher res on the PS3 than the 360? I wasnt bothered about it I just enjoyed the game.

Although I'd have to say that whoever programmed the engine's PS3 side SUCKS. Find some new devs/engineers Terminal Reality...

a little blurry, but fine. i could understand the uproar if it wasnt playable, or broken in some other way, but its not. the game play beautifully. what suckas the most about all of this is terminal reality said blah blah about the ps3 this and blah blah about ps3 that. . . they never once said that the game would be in a much higher resoulution than x360, what they said was they could have tons more onscreen. so what if one version ran at 720p and the other could handle 1000 ghosts at the same time. honestly the res dip does NOT hurt the experience. the game plays exactly the same. i was dissapointed, too, but after i played through some of it, i realized it was same game and was fine. all the hate for this game needs to stop. instead of focusing on resolution, focus on the game. lets instead discuss what they did right on the title. terminal reality did a fantastic job of working the gameplay to fit the movie, and it plays awesome. let us compare the gameplay between the two versions, not the resolution. chances are they are the exact same.

The author is dumb for even suggesting that people would want to go out and buy a 360 just for blurry textures on a multiplat. I may have my gripes with MS and their console, some being why I chose the ps3 (but I was on the fence for a while), but any fanboyism aside, shoddy development on a multiplatform I hope wouldn't even tempt someone to think of switching consoles. If you have both, more power to you, get the 360 version. If I had the money I'd probably own both too. But come on... And I'm not only talkin to ps3ers. The game is pretty good. An average game boosted to awesomeness because of the nostalgic, and wonderful movie license. It's still a multiplatform title, its already not the prettiest game on either console. Dumb-ass, those pictures are not displayed at the native resolution and are not the same size, so they are both blurry and distorted compared to what you would get from gameplay.

Being honest I might do with Ghostbusters what I did with sonic unleasehed.
Get both versions (Wii & 360).
Ghostbusters does look pretty good and it is one of the few xbox game that I am really interested in at the mo.
As for the comparison I can only see 2 big differences between the PS3 and 360 versions.
THe PS3 version has a brighter colour tone and the proton pack looks blurred when compared to the proton pack in the 360 version 360 version.
