Naughty Dog Gives PSLS A Detailed Walkthrough of Uncharted 2

PlayStation LifeStyle was able to sit down with a developer from Naughty Dog and get a detailed walkthrough of two levels from Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, including one not available to attendees on the show floor. The production values evident in the game were incredible, and the team has been keen on taking feedback from Drake's Fortune and applying what they learned into the sequel.

INCREDIBLE! good lord this is my most anticipated game of 09! the director Bruce Straley couldnt have said it any better..if you're looking for a "bang for your buck" Uncharted 2 is where its at

nbsmatambo5582d ago (Edited 5582d ago )

the lvl of detail in this game is mind boggling =o

this is certainly a day 1 purchase...

ABizzel15582d ago

Uncharted 2 looks amazing as expected. But I'm really starting to dig PlayStation Lifestyle. They always had decent articles, but now they have been getting leak and huge stories one after another. I need a job in the gaming industry, so PSL hook me up.

phosphor1125582d ago

Though i can't STAND it when a dev shows a walkthrough/demo with God mode on..its really annoying. Lol, is it that hard to play, talk and not die?

ultimolu5582d ago

Holy Mary, Jesus and Joseph.

Incredible....*is stunned again*

O-O They did it again.

II Necroplasm II5582d ago (Edited 5582d ago )

It's funny how you can pay $60 for a game like Uncharted and pay the same price for games such as Damnation or Terminator Salvation.

LarVanian5582d ago

@ Necro
Is there anyone at this site who actually bought those games?

INehalemEXI5582d ago (Edited 5582d ago )

I had 2 issues with the first uncharted , some of the plants stood out, it was the only thing that looked less then spectacular. In U2 they brought those plants up to par with the rest of the world they not only have as good textures as the rest of the worlds assets they move just as they should in an intense wind.

The other issue was it was a great SP and that was it... I wanted more. They deliver sick co op, and competitive in U2 and they bring video capture. Naughty Dog is the sh!t. I remember a lot of ip's suffered the same type drawbacks for sequel after sequel I still liked the games but it took so long for those games to improve. This is pretty cool that the next game is so improved they did not have to make such improvements devs have got away with overlooking such things in the past.

shingo5582d ago (Edited 5582d ago )

AWESOME.

II Necroplasm II5582d ago (Edited 5582d ago )

Buy crap and gold for the same price... that was my point though

heroicjanitor5582d ago

Everything is done the way it is in real life, the wet clothes, the splashing of the rain when it lands, the wind blowing the plants around, it is the most visually impressive game I've seen and the animations mean it's realistic too, along with the first game's gameplay and likeable characters I think this will be my favourite ps3 game :)

Oner5582d ago (Edited 5582d ago )

@ II Necroplasm II ~ I absolutely agree 100%, which is why I only have a very few titles for my Wii and even less for my 360 (let alone it is broken for the 4th time now). This is how I do my part to show devs etc. that I will not support shovel ware or crappy manufacturing, no matter the cost.

I am not in the business of throwing my hard earned money away at crap no matter what it is, or on what system it may be on...and yes that does apply to Sony's products or devs as well. Hell I'm one of the people who can say that while Killzone 2 is impressive graphically, environmentally & physics wise, I am one of those finite, sensitive FPS players who can tell/feel the issue with KZ2's aiming problem(s). Thus I didn't buy it (and even contributed news to N4G to call them out on it!).

After almost what 10 YEARS of CS and nearly 30 years of gaming experience ON ALL PLATFORMS in general I can honestly say the above with fervor and 100% truthfulness...no matter WHO may disagree or believe contrary to what I say.

cmrbe5582d ago

Graphically for me is some of the long grass and water splash.

Those long grass that stick out and move to the wind didn't look too good because they looked plastic with some of the flat ground surface. Also the water splashes when drake swims looked standard which was a shame because the water in Uncharted is the best i have seen.

Oh almost forgot. Small water puddles didn't ripple when you stood in it.

I saw the game play trailer and they have fixed the puddle and splash. Now the water splashes is volumetric. Looks amazing real.

INehalemEXI5582d ago

That could be polished out to look better but it looks way better then previous foliage. Sometimes in real life you can't tell is that a plastic plant or a real one cause a lot of leaves in jungles do look very shiny and plastic like. /shrug

CyberCam5582d ago (Edited 5582d ago )

I agree with you about Killzone 2 but I did buy and loved the single player portion of the game. However the new 1.27 patch is AWESOME and has fixed the controller issues from before... it's how the controls should have been from the start. I'm finding that I'm playing it on a regular basis now, since that patch... kudos to GG for finally fixing the controls!

mal_tez925582d ago

Drake's Fortune is STILL my favourite game ever, but this seems to be an improvement on every aspect.

One problem I do have is the aimer that comes up during run and gun and blind firing. I hope this is optional as I prefer the way Drake's Fortune Played.

This game does look amazing though, with more epic moments like the helicopter and helping the other guy. The first game had nothing like this but I loved it just for it's unbeatable core gameplay. Implementing this gameplay into these epic situations has made for a much more interesting game.

Also, the new guns, improved animations (Drake's Fortune is now the second best animated game), and improved graphics just make me want it more.

Definantly a day one purchase!

JL5582d ago

I can't wait for this game. This is my most anticipated game of the year. It looks amazing, I'm sure will be fun as hell (the first one sucked me in so much that I beat the entire thing in one session. didn't stop til it was over). That second level looks pretty cool too. I'm going to have to stop watching this stuff. It's making me want this game even more and I'm starting to get impatient lol But yea, it's all the lil details in this game (and the first) that really make it stand out and immerse you.

rockleex5582d ago

Who notices the conflicts between the characters?

My GAWD!!! I am TOTALLY FRICKEN HYPED for this game after seeing that second video.

Uncharted 2 will pit EVERYTHING against Nathan Drake. His interests are conflicted by moral choices, etc. Its CRAZY!!

Christopher5582d ago

How bad ass would it be if Uncharted 2 allowed you to choose your path in the game in regards to who to follow/side with? I mean, at that moment, will we have the option to go with Chloe or Elena and have a different storyline based on that?

talltony5581d ago

It has it all, story, gameplay, graphics, coop, and competetive mp. What else do you need?

Lawliet5581d ago

Gamervision made an excellent frame by frame analyst video. Be sure to check this out.. http://www.gametrailers.com...

Oner5581d ago

@ CyberCam ~ I may give it another rent just to give it a try and if I really like it I might pick one up used or something...crosses fingers again for the 4th or 5th time!

Lifewish5582d ago

that second level looks badass!!

phosphor1125582d ago

I don't know why, but it just is. It helps that immersion kinda thing...y mabober...

Redempteur5582d ago (Edited 5582d ago )

this new level they showed was awesome ...the way the action and the ennemies keep coming and you have to move fast fast.. i can't help but to think that if you stay still it's instant game over ..ca't wait to try it myself ...

The reversal at the end was pretty good too ...

And yeah the levels are full with details and destructibles elements , no slowdows .. beautifull !!!

rockleex5582d ago

Is with the enemy. And she's only using Drake to get to the treasure. That's why she wants Drake alive, but doesn't care for other people.

Or she could just be those cold hearted type. It could be that the twist at the end of the second video is only there to throw you off.

I mean, why would they show you a twist during a demo if that's all there is to it? ^_^

Max Power5582d ago

I just picked up the first game so I can finish it on crushing and get my Platinum. I rented it when I first got my PS3 and never had the funds to get it until now, glad I got it to add to my collection.

table5582d ago

it is the only game I've had enough fun with to bother to get the platinum. Truely one of my all time favs and I'm sure Uncharted2 will even surpass the first!

Max Power5582d ago

I so forgot how fun this game is! (the first one, the MP and CO-OP are also ace)

V ii T aL5581d ago

the first one doesn't have any mp

King20085582d ago

Only question is do I start multiplayer first or tackle the single player and be behind with online leveling up..Excellent gameplay

ToastyMcNibbles5582d ago

i say start on the single player...the single player just looks too damn good to not wanna start it first...really excited though about the other modes multiplayer will have and the co-op is fantastic...i always get upset whenever the co-op level in the beta ends because i wanna play more haha...i always feel like its going to continue and then i realize its not

Peppy la Moca5582d ago

you probably wanna start with single player since you'll be able to unlock different skins and money for multiplayer and also get a feel for the game overall, especially if you haven't played the beta.

Max Power5582d ago

play the main campaign first, it helps you get used to the controls and what not, plus you can play the MP, and CO-OP without worrying about the the main story, and you can talk to people about it and not get it ruined.

Currently playing Drakes Fortune on crushing, next will be to replay Among Thieves, but I'm sure it still holds up today.

P_Bomb1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Recently re-platinumed 1-3. Uncharted 2 aged better than I even expected. I enjoyed it more now than I did a decade ago. It’s more polished than 1, tighter than 3 and Yemen in 3 was gorgeous. Shambhala out-prettied Ubar though. 60fps w higher res’ made for a damn good rerun.

Abnor_Mal1605d ago

Question: When you say Uncharted2 aged better than expected, are you talking about the original PS3 game or the remastered collection on PS4. I ask because I think that a remastered version of the game would look and play better than the original.

I doubt that the original ran at 60 frames, how many years old is the remastered collection anyway.

I need to replay the original trilogy along with the collection, not a fan of the collection trophy of beating levels in a set time and don't think the originals required that for platinum.

P_Bomb1605d ago (Edited 1605d ago )

@abnor_mal
It’s true that the remasters have upped the resolution and given it 60fps, but the base game is the same. The art design and base textures/physics/ animations are the same yet still look contemporary. More-so than UC1 which isn’t as tight, or UC3 in some cases which I found a bit clunky in close quarters.

UC2 level design was a great evolution in bringing the verticality from the jungle into rural/urban settings while maintaining smooth animation transitions. Drake still moves better than the ginger in Star Wars Jedi. Outdoor areas are better lit.

UC2 also has more action and better pacing imo, which helps when replaying a game 10 years later. Kept me engaged.

You don’t need to time trial for platinum. They stuck the speedrun trophies in a seperate extended dlc category so have no fear.

MadLad1606d ago

I thought the originals were good, but not great. I understand that puts me in the minority here. That said, Uncharted 4 was freaking fantastic.

Profchaos1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Yeah I understand the hate for 4 prior to playing it I was firmly against it and felt like 3 wrapped things up already but now after playing it I think it was the best in the franchise.

Now I look back at two and I feel like I'm playing an on the rails shooter everything is so tightly scripted including the infamous train scene you simply can't make a mistake

Rimeskeem1606d ago

I think Uncharted 2 is a lot like AC2. Both games took the idea and basically improved it in every single way.

Movefasta19931605d ago

Uc2, AC2,Halo2, Soul calibur 2, Killzone 2, Infamous 2 , Dishonored 2 and a few more. The only negative thing I have against uc2, and imo it annoyed me,are the blue apes, uncharted 1 handled the super natural far better.
