GamingHeaven Review: Ghostbusters: The Video Game

A portion of the audience reading this review will have seen the legendary Ghostbusters movie from 1984, even if you aren't old enough to have been around when it was first released. The new game from Atari is damned good fun and is set to appeal to a huge cross section of the gaming audience - especially as it is based on a possible forthcoming third movie in the franchise.

I'm still not sold. Early reviews have been mixed. I'll give it a rent. I'm 28 so I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan. Loved the movies, the cartoon and even collected everything from action figures and lunchboxes to posters. I'm really looking forward to what is essentially a sequel to Ghostbusters 2.

I agree with you though, it is a solid rental for me. It just looks like an ok game and I am eager to see how it all pans out. I loved the movies and look forward to see how they play this story out.

Look, I'll come out and say it - I admit that reviews do affect the choices I make when it comes to buying games.

Yes yes, I know that scores are subjective, often manipulated, etc etc, but I don't have limitless cash. And when I read the reviews closely, and I see them describe gameplay elements that interest me, when they say things like "solid third-person action title", it's good enough for me to really think hard about getting it.

And come on, how often is it that we get good games from movie-licenses?

I'm glad he like the game too. However, anyone else feel like you've read this review before? Everyone in high school or college should take a good look at this. It's called plagiarism, and this review is full of it.

This paragraph from the Gaming Heaven review is the worst offender:

"Between missions you get to play about in the firehouse and you can listen in on Janine’s telephone calls as well interact with the jumping toaster on the pool table - these are all little touches which make you feel more a part of the Ghostbuster experience and while you aren’t allowed to roam about in New York City, there are key interaction ideas which make for a better and more fun experience."

Now check out what Greg Miller said over at IGN:

"Although you're not given free reign of New York City, you will get to fool around the firehouse in between missions. You can slide down the pole, eavesdrop on Janine's telephone calls, play with the jumping toaster on the pool table and more. None of it really affects the story, but it's a neat distraction that lets you feel like you're really a Ghostbuster."

All of the reviews have been at or above 8/10 save for the 7 from Edge and they grade extremely harsh (comparatively Infamous also got a 7).

I've always been a huge Ghostbusters fan, but this isn't really my kind of game, so this'll be a rental for me.

Im getting this game next tuesday on the ps3. It comes with Ghostbusters on blu-ray so thats enough for me.

In reading the IGN review it said it had some videos of refurbishing ecto-1 and the bluray trailer. Some may interpret that as the full movie. If there is solid confirmation you get the full blu movie with each game then I wouldnt mind passing up the 360 for the ps3.

I could actually see a demo of the game being included with the blu release of the movie however.
