Sony E3 Game Highlights (With No Montages!)

Sony attempted to follow through on the "saving the best for last" mantra, following Microsoft's presentation on Monday and Nintendo's earlier in the day Tuesday.

So how did they do? Well, the presentation itself was rather lengthy (clocking in at over 2 hours), and contained more videogame montages than I care to watch. I'd rather see individual game demos (even in they are just trailers) than mashups showing clips of dozens of games.

Luckily, there were plenty of those as well.

Uncharted 2: A
MAG: C+
ModNation Racers: B+
Motion Sensor Prototype: B-
The Last Guardian: A
Gran Turismo 5: B
God of War 3: A

C+ for MAG? What are you thinking??? :P

B for Gran Turismo 5? What are you thinking?!?

Fixed.

except a bit of damage. I can see why they don't give it an A just based on the caliber of the game.

Uncharted 2, on the other hand, should be A++. I agree with the GOW 3 A, A++ for the gore and gameplay, B+ for the graphics.

TheChosenWon3422d ago

Just curious... what about MAG warrants something greater than a C+ rating, based on that demo?

BigKev453423d ago

MAG did look lackluster.

SupaPlaya3422d ago

but the true ACE of the show is Uncharted 2. Not a doubt.

SpoonyRedMage3422d ago

As an outsider who watched the conference I think Uncharted 2 is the only oen that deserves an A. After watching that preview, everything else looked mediocre.

SupaPlaya3422d ago

I think starting off with GOWIII with a bang, and ending with Uncharted 2 might have been a better order.

They most definitely shouldn't have shown MAG right after Uncharted 2...

TheChosenWon3422d ago

Well if you compartmentalize the games, it's a little easier to rate them on their own merits. The Last Guardian is more of a niche title, but that doesn't mean it isn't entitled to an A rating. It looked spectacular, and the series is more story/environment driven than most games - it appears from the trailer that Team Ico nailed it once again. If you're not a fan of Ico/SotC, than it's likely you wouldn't have rated it as high.

GoW 3 could only NOT be an A if they completely crapped all over it. But they didn't, and the demo showed exactly what fans of the series want - GoW1/2 with amped up everything.

And I agree, MAG after Uncharted 2 was a mistake. Anyone following UC2 was doomed to look lackluster in comparison.

SupaPlaya3422d ago (Edited 3422d ago )

that if you do not consider the game's history and look at just the trailer alone, I don't think The Last Guardian deserves an A either. It just didn't show us too much, no gameplay. Just a glimpse of what the story is about.

But once you consider how many people loved the ICO games and how long they've been waiting for their next, just showing up warrants an A.

TheChosenWon3422d ago

Absolutely. I think you need to know the history of Team Ico to really appreciate The Last Guardian. If you just look at the video without knowing or caring about Ico or SotC, then I could see giving it somewhere in the B-range. Impressive, but nothing earth shattering.

That said, anyone who's played Ico/SotC and enjoyed them, knows why it got an A. :)

Overall though, I was impressed with Sony's announcements, and I went into it thinking they wouldn't do very well. I was pleasantly surprised.

You were there? Lucky :P

How were the booth babes?

I totally missed that game. Can someone explain it to me?

SupaPlaya3422d ago

in that you get to customize your cars and make your own tracks, then share it with others. It's part of Sony's Play, Create, & Share (in that order??) series of games.

Sounds a bit like Track Mania. I can't wait to see more on ModNation Racers as more info is released!

EDIT:

BADASS video! I really want this game now!
