IIRC the one of the PS3's to have BC was doing it with a mostly software-only solution. If that's the case there's no reason to think that hasn't been kept and possibly moved to this slim unit... if they bothered to.

Unless they have a 100% SW only emulator working, BC won't happen. "Mostly" implies, there's still HW involved, in that case the GS, which has already been removed in the current PS3 models. In no way, they'll put that back in.

I think the new PSP is pretty much confirmed now, im not sure how well this UMDless PSP is going to do though.

I know that Sony are going to have to get hundreds of PSP and PS1 games on the PSN, and offer a solution for the 15+ UMD games ive got for me to even think about buying one.

I've been dying to buy a new PSP for the enhanced screen, but holding off till this new PSP Go or whatever is announced.

I have tonnes of games on UMD so a download only portable is not an option for me.

Why would you have to carry around 2 devices? Can't you access the PS Store on your current PSP? If you don't want to get rid of your current PSP, you can simply start downloading more PSP games while keeping your UMDs. I know that I will be more than excited to pick up the new PSP-Go! when it arrives. I can't stand carrying around those little discs, and it would be nice to not have to do that. The best solution for the PSP is a built in hard drive of 4-8GB or more and no UMD drive.

I'd guess it comes with a 16-32GB flash drive (HDD draws to much power). But some sort of UMD installer (like thru an external bluetooth or USB device) would make things easier. Not sure how they'd handle the game licenses in that case...you could simply install it and sell the disk.

Gotto get me one of those PSP Go's! I'm glad I didn't rush out and buy the PSP-3000 when it came. As for the PS3 Slim, if it has BC, I will sell my old PS3 and get me one of those instead.

People are already pissed because BC was promised and then taken away. Do you really think they'll add it in for certain models again? Don't you think think that would infuriate people even more?

If they're going to add it, it should be via software for all models.

If all the cheap ass gamers weren't so picky and whinny about the price of a Ps3 and showed a little patience then ALL Ps3 would have BC now. I bought my when it first drop and I have since upgraded to a 320 gb hd. i can't begin to tell you how great it is to play some infamous, then pop MGS3, then finish Uncharted again, and jump to SOTC.

People complain when it's too much, then complain when they drop the price and remove some features to do so, then complain when they put it back in. People want the world but don't want to pay for it.

Or any other number of website that have been talking about a UMDless PSP since at least December of 2008. They also pointed out that it wasn't a PSP2 but a refresh to the existing line.

Dude, don't be such a prick. Playstation lifestyle were the first to come up with that information. They were also the first to provide the trico trailer. Not to mention the bunch of other rumors they have contributed that have turned out true.

Others that were speculating the new psp2 were just spitballing random rumored features, anyone can do that. Sev actually got word from REAL sources, other than the imagination.

And the name Go! was put out there by Destructoid a full month before PSLS said anything about it.

at least wait until you see the thing. Sony has had a thing for messing stuff up lately. I'm holding back to see what they come up with.

I recently picked up the "new" psp with the "better" screen. Biggest waste of money I had ever spent. The joystick feels super cheap, the bumpers feel weak, and the screen has interlacing problems. You can't even tell the screen is better without the side by side. With the interlacing problems, it actually looks worse.

Compared to a DS though, it's a thousand times better in terms of hardware.

I have a PSP1000 and 3000, and I can't see the interlacing. It has a much sharper image, that's for sure. I also don't think the buttons are worse. Its cost optimized for sure, but mostly kept the feel of quality the first model has. I still wished the screen allows playing in daylight (sunshine), like the iphone does. OLED would certainly help in that respect, IMO.

I dont want a psp 400 just with a new name. i want a REAL psp2.

Which will play its own, graphucally enhanced games and with new features. I love how proper consoles get a huge change every few years Its exciting. But the way the hendheld market is going with little tweaks is getting boring. I want a whole new console...
