From The Site...While Speaking at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in Tokyo last week, Capcom CFO Kazuhiko Abe has revealed that Resident Evil 5 has sold 5 million copies worldwide since launch.
this game deserves every sale :D
Great sales, but I thought this game had a bigger following... It spawn several games, and several movies. Am I wrong?
Good. It was a good game, now Capcom it's time to modernize the gameplay for the next installment. It doesn't have to be a complete revamp just upgrade the gameplay experience like Metal Gear did from 3 to 4.
good game, but did not deserve to sell 5 million copies.
RE4 was one of my favorite games of last-gen.. 5 was awesome and I loved playing through it with a buddy who loved 4 as much as I did (playing with someone who actually understands the story/characters and gets excited at the same great moments makes the game that much better). I was disappointed at the lack of scares, but I couldn't help but find the cash spent on the game justified. Not like Capcom needs the millions and millions of dollars.. but I'm happy to see solid sales, because that usually ends up meaning a sequel is on the way (at SOME point, anyway.....).
well deserved well done capcom
Hats of to Capcom. Good job on the game. They could have done a better job with the extra charge for the "Versus" mode. Someone above mention that they thought the RE series had a bigger following. It does, but look at what great games are currently out there to play too.
@PorcelainGod - There's no need for name calling. Thw demo was okay, but honestly I have been playing KZ2, Gears 2, and Fallout 3 to have time for it now. So I did not buy RE5, but to call someone else an idiot for buying a game is not necessary. edit: Why did you not like the game? I know a lot of people were turned off by Capcom not sticking to the original roots of the RE series. Is that it or did it just totally suck for you, game play, graphics, etc? How much of the game did you play?
what a stupid game. nothing about this game is even close to good. the fact that "zombies" can shoot guns and ride in vehicles is just plain retarded. the control scheme is just horrible. this game got its sales from the previous 4 games. easily one of the worst/overhyped piece of garbage games ive played this gen.
"Almost as bad as GTA4. A garbage game selling to idiots who will buy anything with a famous name on the cover. " There you have it ladies and gents, the great and all mighty Dumba$$ does not like RE5, so anybody who does like it is an "idiot".... Lol!, control scheme to difficult for you?!?!?... So, now I'm curious...is the halo name considered to be for idiots or intelligent beings?
After RE 2 it kinda went down hill for me. That's when I fell in love with Silent hill. But then after Silent hill 2, that series went down hill as well. What the hell is up with these sequels.
@ above Totally agree, Resident Evil 5 is one hell of a game and I hope it sells ten million. Congrats Capcom!
I think it was a great game if we put aside the fact that it wasn't true to resident evil roots.
LOL. thats a huge contribution.
so make it 5,000,001
huge contribution lol
That's good, more used copies there will be on the cheap when I'm ready to buy it.
the co op is just really good... have to really rely on the other turd for the ammo.. you need a good partner to enjoy this game
But a good partner makes the game REALLY enjoyable.
I liked it-co-op is fun btw.
Looks like there will be a RE6 then.
serious swagger... your not so serious here are you ? funny
Instead of RE6 most likely being the next RE game, i would like to see an Outbreak sequel.
sounds good, but they'd have stiff competetion from left 5 dead i guess... i think re 6 is much better path coz a next gen racoon city would be a really refreshing sight...
without any disrespect but OUTBREAK was crap.
Great news. Now bring it to Wii,Capcom
Agreed, even though i hate wii i still believe that everyone should be able to play a brilliant game like this.
It was ok. What i meant was take the Outbreak formula with RE5 camera angle, big enviroment and 4-8 player co-op.
That might turn out to be nice.
r2 and r1>>>>>>> all re after this period... and is mult r5, r1 sell around 6.0 in ps1 exclusive imo... epic fail for r5.
You guys are sad little men. A game isn't great only if it sticks to its roots. Just see it as a totally different game if it makes you feel better. This game is definately in my top 5 this gen so far, cuz I don't live in the past and I know how to appreciate good things.
There is really nothing wrong with taking a new direction. And it's not like it's the last RE game either.
It isn't just that it strays from what makes it a RE game is it? It's more, for me, part of a general malaise of average games from my favourite developer. RE5 was NO good to you as a SP game and compared to other "action" zombie titles like L4D even the online stuff was a bit drab(though, admittedly a good laugh to go through ONCE with a good mate). And if they wanted to go the action route than, really they shouldn't have kept the controls which make the Vs content absolutely without point. I just hope that LP2 is far btter than the first game and starts them back on track to thekind of form we used to enjoy from them. People don't like to admit it but Capcom just aren't making games as good as they used to.
I completely agree with you Mastiffchild. atleast on the RE5 front (as I'm not one for fighting or hack slash) Re5 is a good game on it's own and can be enjoyable, but I find that as a sequel to RE4 it is dissapointing and due to the main game's story or seeming lackof it lakcs replayability. (for me) Re 4 was 14 hours long, it was really well paced and had you almost going back and fourth at points but it wasn't teadious. Re5 just has you go through straight to the end, not only is it dissapointingly linear, it's dissapointingly short. the pacing, as I just mentioned, in 4 was beautiful, it had moments where it was quiet, or not overly busy. and there was some truly atmospheric moments too. The village at night and the first regenerator. followed later on by the action, that can be temporarily overwhelming. Re5 just seems to throw loads of enemies at you constantly. There's no tension, the one moment where they really could have kept some horror, they merely threw the enemy (the one hit kill creature 5-2). Resident evil used to be about desperaion, to an extent and now it's just walk shoot walk. I miss the merchant too, stranger!
great game, dare i say contorls?..?
And yet the arguably better game Dead Space barely got past 1 million.
dead space is 100 times better. survival/horror games should have some "horror", but re5 is just stupid, not scary one bit.
Could've been alot better. I say the Hype sold the game. It being a resisdent game alone would've given them the sells they needed. Sad though to see a good franchise try to be something its not. Remember RE 1-3, then 4 came out and changed the whole feeling of resisdent eveil. 4 Was good, im just saying they didnt really do anything new with RE5. Still an okay game to own if your a fan.
re5 is a good game.
I love this game a whole lot, but I can't help to feel that the sales should've been a bit higher since it was on two platforms.
The game came out in march. 5 million copies sold within 2 months is good.
Im so sick of this gen. How does an ugly game like RES5 get all the sells when the awesome ps3 exclusives with innovative features like CELL PROCESSOR dont get many sells. The bias is rediculous!
Capcom sells games. deal with it.
Though i wouldn't say that graphics make a game. Sure it maybeugly compared to games like uncharted and mgs4, But even if the graphics suck they have its fanbase, and the fans will buy it no matter what it looks like. If mgs4 didnt have the graphics that it dose, would you still buy it? Probably yes because of the fact that you are a fan. A game being ugly dosent give justice to not buying it.
Fanbase and multi platform. Anyway I love RE5, you might need your eyes check because it isn't a ugly game.
I can't believe you x360 trolls would go this low to make PS fans look bad. Innovative features like the Cell???. You need to go back to stealth trolling school.
How many of those 5million are were sold on 360? RE4 > RE3 > RE2 > RE5 > RE imo The gamecube had the superior version of re4 over ps2 The 360 has the superior version of re5 over ps3 Don't capcom like sony?
Capcom doesn't care. They never make permanent alliances and have switched in the past so many times. Capcom left Nintendo for Sega(Street Fighter 2) Capcom left Sega for Sony(Resident Evil) Capcom left Sony for Sega (RE Code Veronica,Power Stone) Capcom left Sega for Sony (RE Survivor series,Devil May Cry) Capcom left Sony for Nintendo(RE remakes,Resident Evil 4) Capcom left Nintendo and Sony for Microsoft(Dead Rising,Lost Planet) Capcom declines Dead Rising 2 exclusive despite strong sales on the 360 alone on its first part, announces RE game for Wii,pushes strong PSN support Capcom returns to support all three Sony,Microsoft,Nintendo but maintains neutrality
Last I heard of an update on RE5 cross-console sales, it was about neck-and-neck. Capcom likes Sony, but with you acting like Jojo the idiot circus boy with all this fanboy Fud (it was better on 360. How much did it sell on 360), I can make a clear assumption that the opposite sex doesn't like you.
So does that make it the best selling resident evil game so far, and they havent even released the pc version yet
... but we don't have a date for it yet as far as I know.
Fine ill let the people with bias enjoy their ugly xbox limited port while i enjoy the power of blue-ray and CELL PROCESSOR.
I'm trying to say that you dont need good graphics to make a game sell. Unless of course your that shallow.
I enjoyed the game thoroughly. And a nextgen re5 is better than no re5.
For being a game that was designed to *make money*, induce a fun-filled time, reminiscent of L4D, but with substance... I am not surprised.
I'ts just too bad the game wasnt as great as the previous resident evils
HAHAHAH!! That was funny.
I'm a god awful big fan of RE...from 1 to 4 n all inbetween (rarely spinoffs =/) I love the story and follow it like kids follow harry potter. I can understand the "rage" at how RE5 became "comercial" and "actiony" and "buuh zombies can't yeild guns" and "its not scary anymore nor survival".... If you follow the story well, the zombies / virus evolves, so all the "intelligence" is justified (even if poorly) The gameplay didn't go any further than RE4 but come on give em a break they can't revolutionise gaming EVERY game. Games need to pass through whats called "iterative" process - to slightly improve on little details, but in general keeping things the same. And it worked, the game is insanely fun with some added features (co-op anyone? =D weird inventory thingy - a bit of a drawback but it is a change indeed) I commend capcom for being such a massive company and still pushing things forward (maybe not ALL THE TIME but what do you expect, some times companies need to stick to a formula, even if for just a while) RE FTW =D...and Capcom for tht matter =)
Wow they complain about piracy in the gaming industry but still good and half decent games that get pirated also sell in the millions. The developers need to get over the piracy because they sell enough games. This is one example of a game that got pirated a lot but it still sells 5 million.
Now thats FKN Awesome, all we need to know how much Street Figher IV will sell, and be please with Capcom games.
already out sold l4d congs capcom and as put valve at the end of the there game with l4d sorry big gabe newell if they ad supported the ps3 things with sales might have been good numbers as well but guess big gabewell misses out
i just finished the game last night, played on Veteran difficulty with a friend... it was definitely A LOT of fun. just the right amount of challenge, we really had to strategize and play carefully in the later levels. some boss fights were really awesome too. but overall the game is kind of a mixed bag... i think the co-op is absolutely excellent, probably the best co-op action game from Japanenese developers so far (?). but there are some issues, controls could be a bit better (though i dont mind the fact that you have to stand still to shoot, thats actually fairly realistic, you cant just run and gun and expect to hit targets in real life). the later levels look a bit boring and grey compared to the first levels... i wanted to see more beautiful environments :( if im playing an action game set in Africa, why the f*ck am i running inside generic looking facilities half the time? anyway i like the game. thanks to the co-op. it literally saves the game imo.
