Most Shocking E3 Announcements of All Time

Craveonline: With E3 right around the bend, we thought it was high time to take a look back at some of the most surprising moments of years passed. In its prime, E3 was a gaming mecca for fans, journalists, and professionals alike, where excitement was running rampant through each and every room. Though the past few years saw a much scaled back version of the expo, E3 2009 is back to being the bloated and excessive extravaganza it was always known for.

but I bet some ppl will think the Final Fantasy XIII announcement was most shocking...

La Chance5612d ago (Edited 5612d ago )

Final Fantasy 13 was BY FAR the most shocking E3, TGS or whatever event announcement of all time.

I still remember logging on to N4G and seeing FF13 on the front page with 1000 comments...I knew something was up lol.

That was a great day for rpg loving 360 owners like myself

Cant wait for this years E3... :D

ShabzS5611d ago

bungie pulling out of e3 08 a day before gets my vote ... it actually helps build excitement for odst this year though

The_Firestarter5611d ago (Edited 5611d ago )

It was simply because SE lead everybody, including myself, to believe that FF XIII was going to be exclusive to the PS3, indefinitely. If we weren't flat-out lied to, then I wouldn't be so shocked by the startling news. Also, if SE made it clear from the get go that FF XIII would be a multi-platform release, I seriously wouldn't care. Good, now we can ALL enjoy the next edition to the great franchise: Final Fantasy, despite recent plunders by SE.

I'm sure if it was shocking then they would've had it listed as the top moments. That wasn't a shocking announcement at all since ever since S-E started making the FF games they have been going downhill. This is why nobody cared except people who will still buy anything with the FF name slapped on the box.

The whole point of this article even being written was the FFXIII announcement because as nice as some announcements are. The only one that was ever somewhat surprising was FFXIII, it was the only announcement delivered with a pivot a turn an a devilish grin for that fact exact reason. A three year lie that the speaker obviously thought was funny to some extent by the despicable smile on his face when he said it. A lot of the shock was the way it was delivered as if Square Enix could give two sh*ts about what they spoke of for 3 years running that's what made it worse. It wasn't just the announcement, it was delivered in a disgusting way, if you watch the video you can see the smirk. I personally was not the least bit amused I assure you but if they make a good game fine though that made me realize I can't trust anything they say again after that.

ehkinoh5611d ago

Reggie has the most shocking announcement ever with "My name is Reggie, I'm about kicking ass, I'm about taking names, and we're about making games."?!?!

It's a shame none of that seems to be true anymore... we all remember last year's Ninetendo E3 Conference!!!

JokesOnYou5611d ago

I don't even like FF series and I still have to say that was the biggest bombshell ever dropped at E3.

I mean like every E3 you hear alot of rumors leading up to the event but that never even crossed anybody's mind for 1 second and up until that day there were tons of posts about how FFXIII would be 'teh best exclusive ever, blah, blah, FF, blah, blah etc. lol and did you see how angry sony loyalists were after that announcement? Now predictably the game and SE gets a fair share of love and hate these days. lmfao

JOY

ThanatosDMC5611d ago

By far, i think the biggest announcement that they'll ever come out with if possible is "We bought Sony" -Microsoft

Shang-Long5610d ago

FFXIII goin muilt. since no one expected that one. i was shocked. forsure

xabmol5610d ago

I'm sorry, but I was never a big FF fan. So that "amazingly huge shocking announcement" was nothing for me but a, "Huh? ...whatever."

I have to admit though, people going all http://www.messageboardcham... really cracks me up. lol xD

if bungie announced halo exclusively for ps3 wouldn't that trump ffxiii, not that it would happen but just saying it would be bigger then ffxiii going multi plat

SpoonyRedMage5611d ago

Yes just like if Insomniac and Sucker Punch announced that the next Resistance and infamous games were 360 exclusive.

-x.Red.x-5611d ago

goes to ps3

the internet will explode LoL

i highly doubt it happen but damn i would love to see the reaction...

Phantom_T5611d ago

I completely forgot about Resistance 3,the first two were brilliant.
Can't see It at E3,Insomniac seems to rotate Ratchet and Clank with Resistance, and RnC apparently not finished yet.

Arnon5611d ago

The Halo name is owned by Microsoft. Which is what Redmage was getting at.

I forgot about that Saturn one. Stoops!

I agree that Final Fantasy 13 was pretty huge. And as cheesy as it was, Peter Moore revealing his GTA 4 "tattoo" was a pretty big one too.

jmare5611d ago

This list was okay. It did miss some of the moments.

Panthers5611d ago

#1 was shocking? Hmm whatever.
