Digital Spy writes: "What happened to the humble platformer? They were the bread and butter of the 16-bit era; you couldn’t play a game without extra lives, hovering ledges and power ups at every turn and jump. While the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 had their fair share of 3D adventures, first-person shooters effectively shot them in the back of the head with the arrival of the Xbox. A few choice games like Super Mario Galaxy aside, the platformer is pretty much an ancient art, and it’s good to see Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars trying to revive that adventurous spirit of so many N64 games for the latest Nintendo system."
