Development of the Witcher on consoles stopped

Eurogamer Portugal writes: "The development of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the promising RPG The Witcher has not been canceled but it was suspended.

Were of the French Widescreen Games that announced the suspension of the adaptation of the game for consoles, games that would be developed in collaboration between Atari and CD Projekt.

Olivier Masclef, manager Widescreen Games said in a press note of that, "The development of the game The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf was suspended pending the resolution of financial problems between the project partners. We regret this situation mainly to the fans eagerly awaiting for this game. We find an intelligent solution to our partners who are involved in this ambitious project. "

It´s a little bit sad, The Witcher seems to be a good RPG.

diefor5503d ago

I have play the first The Witcher, so for me it will be always a PC game.

J@D5503d ago

So that means, the project will probably continue huh? I HOPE SO!

Mandaspt5503d ago

Yep, the game has been suspended not cancelled.

The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf footage surfaces

Some footage from the canceled console version of The Witcher has surfaced over on YouTube, and it really makes you ache for what could have been.

NYC_Gamer5123d ago

its ashame that us console owners wont be able to enjoy :(

Raf1k15123d ago

It'll run pretty well on most modern PCs and it's prett cheap now so it's worth picking up.

I see a lot of 3rd person view footage for these games. Am I the only one who played it using the top down view?

Darkfocus5122d ago

wait there was a top down view for the witcher? 8/ I played through the whole game without realizing that.

morganfell5122d ago (Edited 5122d ago )

It isn't top down unless someone added a mod. You can change views on the fly with Over the Shoulder, Low Isometric, and High Isometric.

Raf1k15122d ago

Well, it's as mroganfell says.
What I meant was high isometric but I said top down since it's basically more of a birds eye view since isometric kind of implies it's a fixed isometric view when in fact you could rotate the camera angle. Sorry for the confusion.

Darkstorn5122d ago (Edited 5122d ago )

@raf-
This is not footage from the original Witcher.

I loved the first Witcher, but I doubt my 256mb video card will be able to handle The Witcher 2. Time to upgrade...

Raf1k15122d ago

Yeah I know but all the footage of Witcher games I've seen (this one, the actual Witcher game that was released and the sequal that's in the works) have been shown using this view.

sid4gamerfreak5122d ago (Edited 5122d ago )

the videos taken off....cant see it....

loved the first witcher btw...

MR LOOKINGBILL5123d ago

i don't know if my pc will run it ..but im definitely interested in this game. The PC footage i've seen blows this away.

voice_of_ reason5122d ago

That's because the pc footage you've seen that "blows this away" is from the Witcher 2. This is not the Witcher 2, just a port of the original that never happened.

Julie5123d ago (Edited 5123d ago )

Video no longer available :(

Anyone knows where can i find the vid? i really wish to see it :)

hassi945122d ago (Edited 5122d ago )

So I never knew it was cancelled :/ At least I'll be getting a moderately good gaming PC in a few weeks so I'll probably pick it up for that.

How do you think a 2.6gHz AMD Athlon II X4, 4GB RAM and a ATI Radeon 5750 will do on this?

TheIneffableBob5122d ago

I ran the game maxed out on a 7900 GT, so I think you'll be fine.

Xof5122d ago

As fun as it would have been to play the Witcher with a better, more action-oriented combat system, I'm much happier that we're getting a whole new game (Witcher II) instead.

lbartley5122d ago

White Wolf wasn't even being made by CD Proket. We're not getting Witcher 2 INSTEAD, that was coming anyway. This was cancelled, along with other Widesceen Games projects, because apparently they can't manage to actually produce anything, so CDP pulled the plug.

The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf still being "considered"

VG247: CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the canceled console version of the original Witcher is still being "considered"."It definitely is considered. No particular plans though," said The Witcher 2 senior producer Tomak Gop, speaking with VG247.

BlackIceJoe5167d ago

Its to bad it does not sound like it really will happen. But as long as Witcher 2 comes out on the consoles that will be great.

Interview – The Witcher 2's senior producer, Tomek Gop

VG247: With CD Projekt having now formally announced The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings – along with nice assets to back it up – we grabbed some time with senior producer Tomek Gop to chat about the game's new engine, what's going on with The Witcher on consoles and what to expect from Geralt's sophomore release.

Letros5167d ago

"I remember that before release of The Witcher we got an opinion from ESRB saying that “the game contains really little violence compared to the amount of sex”, while at the same time PEGI was like “hey, the mature content in your game is so teen, you could easily spice it up a bit if you’d like”."

US vs EU, too funny.
