Destructoid: There are two kinds of PS3 owners in the world: those who have bought Valkyria Chronicles, and the ignorant majority who know not of the remarkably action/strategy/RPG combo we here at Destructoid think quite fondly of.
If you're in the second group, go buy Valkyria Chronicles. Now. Once you've finished playing it, come back here and continue reading.
If you're in the first group, you were probably pretty interested to hear about Sega's three separate Valkyria DLC packs, released this Thursday. Retailing at five bucks each, "Enter the Edy Detachment," "Behind Her Blue Flame," and "Hard EX Mode" offer three very different experiences. But are they worth it? Do these DLC packs add new content and require new strategies of the player? Will they keep you occupied for more than a few minutes? Most importantly, is Jann in any of them?
Hit the jump to find out via a (relatively unconventional) Destructoid review.
Since each of these three DLC packs can be purchased independent of one another, I'm actually going to write three mini-reviews rather than one all-encompassing overview.
Gamersmint writes: "Platinum Games' have released some thrilling new images of it's upcoming TPS action game, Vanquish. These images show some of new enemy types which are gigantic in size. The more we are getting to see this game, the more it is starting to excite us!
Vanquish will be releasing for the PS3 and Xbox360 on Nov 30 this year."
All in all, Challenge of the Edy Detachment is roughly as great as Behind her Blue Flame, but for different reasons. The strategy required in each mission is a lot of fun and takes you back to how amazing the main game is, and it's a further reminder that the missions in Valkyria Chronicles have a surprising amount of variety. But the presentation is lackluster and the overall playtime makes it slightly shorter than Behind her Blue Flame. I had hoped that the final piece of Valkyria Chronicles DLC would undoubtedly be the best, but I suppose being tied for that honor is just as good. If you're a fan of the game go pick this up and revel in the best PS3 RPG just one more time.
Joe Juba of GameInformer: "The final bit of downloadable content for Valkyria Chronicles came out yesterday, so I re-enlisted and jumped back onto the battlefield to continue the defense of Gallia. Are the new missions worth picking up? Absolutely."
