FUEL Will be what Motorstorm should've been

Quentyn from AnalogHype.com writes: Without fluffing the beginning of this article with a lot of crap, I'm going to flat out say that Motorstorm and its successor thus far have both been pretty lackluster. The games are fun, don't get me wrong, but they aren't all that they're hyped up to be by the hardcore sony fans out there. When I hear Motorstorm, I think of a bunch of crazy stuff happening, tons of action on screen, and a lot more variety in terms of the atmosphere and environment.

hahahaha, ive seen vids of Fuel and trust me when I say that its not even half as fun as Motorstorm is. Open worlds are cool, but this doesn't have half the action goin on that Motorstorm 2 has. Tobin from noob toob acted like he was falling asleep while he was playing the game, and even said the game would be fun if it had guns. Of course he was joking about the guns part, but it was an honest opinion.

LOL at the douchebag that wrote this article. He said the Motorstorm was lackluster. WTF does he even mean by that? This guy is obviously too dumb to be writing articles about games if he cant even explain himself properly.

@ogwilson Wow, you can read from dictionary. You so freaking smart. I know what lackluster means, but the dumb ass who wrote the article didn't set the sentence up to where it would have been used correctly. To use lackluster, you have to use examples that lead to the word lackluster. I would go on but your just as dumb as the guy who wrote this article. I dont know how to communicate stupid with people so Im just gonna end this here.

ogwilson5481d ago

Or you're too dumb if you don't know the general meaning behind the word "lackluster" and all that it entails.

–adjective
1. lacking brilliance or radiance; dull: lackluster eyes.
2. lacking liveliness, vitality, spirit, or enthusiasm: a lackluster performance.
–noun
3. a lack of brilliance or vitality.
Also, especially British, lacklustre.

Therefore, Motorstorm just wasn't that great. And if you actually read more than the first 2 sentences, you'll see that the author did make some (brief) points to support his reasoning.

GWAVE5481d ago (Edited 5481d ago )

"The games are fun, don't get me wrong, but they aren't all that they're hyped up to be by the hardcore sony fans out there."

This line is used almost word-for-word in so many "Upcoming multiplat will be far better than a Sony exclusive" articles. The internet is clogged with them. It's as if Sony exclusives are the ONLY games in existence that suffer from crippling hype, but a multiplatform game sucking? Nooooo way. A multiplatform game not living up to the hype? Nooooo way. An exclusive on the Wii or 360 not living up to the massive hype? Pfffft. Yeah right.

Motorstorm 1 and 2 both have done very well both in sales (first one sold 3.5 million already) and in reviews (82 average on Meta). The internet should stop obsessing with the PS3 so much.

TheHater5481d ago

"Again, read my comments as if the US was the only gaming market to exist, because as far as I'm concerned, it IS the only market to exist if you live here."
And it is this type of logic is why US sites fails in the eye's of the world. Yesterday the NPD numbers was release and the xbox 360 outsold the PS3 by around 115K unites in the US in March. But yet how quickly does fanboys forget that the PS3 outsold the xbox 360 by around the same number of unites in Japan in March this year.

pixelsword5481d ago (Edited 5481d ago )

You say

"but what happened to all of those reports that said RE5 for PS3 was doing better than the 360 version?"

but you also say:

"Sure we're not factoring in Japanese sales, but we're not in japan. This is a US based site, and I'm asking about US based sales. Why did PS3 not deliver here?"

"All of those reports" factored in worldwide sales. When you do a American-centric article, you have to expect RE5 to sell less on the PS3 because there's less PS3's in the US; conversely, you have to expect RE5 to sell less on the 360 in Japan because there's less 360's in Japan.

To ask the question you are asking and then deny the data you're denying is nullifying the progress you are claiming to make as far as obtaining insight into your own question.

Furthermore, you can't claim that "Mortostorm wasn't that great" as a fact; that is an opinion. In that article (which I thought was fairly well written [of sorts], although horribly misguided) you never pointed out the things that made FUEL stand out over Motorstorm; you just added things that cannot be proven other than the fact that you wrote them, and downed Motorstorm, despite the most of the points are very opinionated. Maybe I'm wrong because I'm not following this particular game, but could you add links to support your claims that doors falling off of other cars can throw you off of the road, despite the fact that doors cannot actually throw you off of the road in real life? I'm not knocking what you said, but if you gave examples or links to support your story, it would be an easier read as far as answering questions instead of bringing them up.

EDIT: The writer "Quentyn" said, and I quote:

"Never said I did play Motorstorm 2, thanks for assuming though."

Okay, he never played Motorstorm 2, so how does he even know if it's lackluster or anything?

It makes sense as to why the opinions had no weight; they were rendered by a lack of experience.

SmokeyMcBear5481d ago

damn the ingnorance of some amuse me. This site is not based in the US.. this site is based in Europe

RedPawn5481d ago (Edited 5481d ago )

You say US site but yet people around the world comment here, and Yes all the people who import games, like say Demon Souls, are now sad, cause they can play in English.

Milky Joe5481d ago (Edited 5481d ago )

Well, I don't care what this guy thinks, I really, really liked Motorstorm 2 and I wouldn't call it overhyped in the least. Underhyped if anything.

Also:
"When I hear Motorstorm, I think of a bunch of crazy stuff happening, tons of action on screen, and a lot more variety in terms of the atmosphere and environment."

More variety? What, you want a track set in space? A Mario Kart style rainbow road? That'd add more variety.

Doppy5481d ago

The idea of Fuel seems like it's everything Motorstorm should have been, but the actual game at least from footage isn't like Motorstorm at all. Motorstorm is an arcade racer while Fuel has a much more realistic tone set in an unrealistic environment. However, I do think that Motorstorm: PR came out much too soon (should have came out this year), but I hope they learn from the idea of Fuel and incorporate those elements into the next Motorstorm for PS3. Meaning open enviorment, dynamic weather (driving to the finish line and boom it starts raining and hailing, then a tornado funnels down right in front of the finish line. Now that would be bad@$$).

HighDefinition5480d ago

Motorstorm: PR is EASILY one of the most underrated titles this gen.

Motorstorm Pacific Rift rocked. If you played it you know already. The engine runs flawless so no slowdown or screen tearing. There's better damage. And the courses are more complex. I won't read this article because the basic premise is retarded.

blackboyunltd - Free roam can't have as much detail and character. Some of the screens on Motorstorm were super heavy on memorable lanes. Without a real route how is it racing?

blackboyunltd5481d ago

you dont think the motorstorm shouldve been free roam?

Hallucinate5481d ago

i dont i hate free roam with a fwcking passion i cant even begin to describes how fwckong retarded it is..its just a gimmick..thats all nothing more to it

ogwilson5481d ago

Free roam isn't just a gimmick, it's become a viable genre and a lot more developers are beginning to cater to it with the added freedom that comes with the hardware we have now. You'll just have to not play a lot of great game that have free roaming, I guess.

Hallucinate5481d ago

well i think it is a gimmick because when i buy racing games i look for something intense, dangerous or w/e you wanna call it..burnout did free roam ok, but still when you were racing there is almost like no interaction between the players..which sucks..look at the road rage for burnout half of the time the guy your trying to kill is 500000000000000 miles away from you..no fun...and fuel well it looks like the only thing that will get in your way is a tornado..which is another gimmick...granted it is a cool one =D but still a gimmick

raztad5481d ago

Well I loved Burnout on the ps2, but the Burnout Paradise (free roaming) just proved to be not for me. I just wanted to go run a race and win, but the free roaming aspect in the game makes hard to keep on the right track and even when winning I end up taking the wrong route and finally losing the race. I guess you need to run the same race several times in order to get used to the damn thing, but I dont have that much time on my hands.

If a game is gonna take the free roaming path, they need to include some kind of checkpoints like in GTA, and people always can use shorter routes if familiar with them.

BTW, Motorstorm is amazing, nothing lackluster with it. Lets see if Fuel delivers.

DragonWarrior_45481d ago

I think having a racing in a track is better then an open world. Unless of course its a street racer like midnight club or burnout. Personally I loved the level design of Motorstorm 2 and I cant wait to buy some more courses via dlc. The dude who wrote this article probably never even played the game from what I can tell, and if he did he probably just played the first demo. Regardless I still think hes an idiot.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro42d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7242d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_42d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga42d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2341d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200042d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin42d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole42d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix42d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel198942d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Michiel198942d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Revisiting PS3 classic Motorstorm - The driving celebration that should never have ended

Digital Foundry : Evolution Studios' Motorstorm is one of the first, finest and most fondly remembered of launch titles for PlayStation 3. It's a release designed to answer the question posed by each new console generation: what makes a game 'next-gen'? With its robust physics engine and massive tracks, Motorstorm serves up a bold affirmative answer to this question, delivering an experience that could never have existed on prior console hardware. At the same time, the path to release was fraught with challenges that almost serve as a microcosm of the PlayStation 3 release situation itself. It was a success, however, with a trilogy of PS3 releases, plus PSP, Vita and even PS2 off-shoots.

After Driveclub and Onrush, the dev team will now contribute to and assist with the development of the upcoming NFS.

darthv72700d ago

I would give anything to have a full compilation of the series remastered to play on PS5 with full DS support. Feeling the deformation of the tracks as you race in pacific rift or the snow laden tracks in arctic edge... that would be sweet.

MastaMold699d ago (Edited 699d ago )

Yes MotorStorm World Tour for PS5 damn it Sony make it. The Desert, Pacific Islands, The Arctic and City races.

Army_of_Darkness700d ago

Motorstorm Pacific rift was awesome! I think MotorStorm: Apocalypse was what killed the franchise due to its change of direction...

darthv72700d ago

Pacific rift is the best (IMO) but apocalypse wasnt what killed it. At least it was still somewhat of a MS game. The RC one is really a departure from the norm. None of which were bad as they were all fun in their own ways.

Army_of_Darkness700d ago

Lol! I completely forgot about the RC version.

Knushwood Butt699d ago (Edited 699d ago )

RC was a blast to play on Vita.

Apocalypse had unfortunate timing due to the 3/11 earthquake in Japan. I never got around to playing that one.

Evolution had some harsh experiences. I had Driveclub from launch and the server issues weren't that bad and certainly didn't prevent you from enjoying the game.

ABizzel1699d ago

Agree Apocalypse didn't kill it, it's just racing games in general just became less popular nearing the end of the PS360 generation as it was flooded with medicore racers and the extremely niche but enjoyable ones like Motorstorm, Blur, Spilt Second, and Forza Horizon (still going strong, but actual sales have been decent fro a racer, and often expanded by console bundles and now GamePass)

But since the PS4/XBO generation had a lack of arcade racers, it's a prime time for games like this to come back.

I've said for the longest, the additional income of PS+ Premium should be used for, Remastering, Remaking, or recreating sequels / spinoffs of classic PS franchises to launch into the service. Many PS3 games fit this mold of looking good enough that a quick remaster to 4K@60 with better texture maps would give them near PS4 quality.

Remasters: A game like Motorstorm look good enough where it can simply be remastered in 4K @ 60fps, and have better textures for mud, mountains/rock structures, and vehicles and it would hold up WELL.

Remakes: Games like Legend of Dragoon, Warhawk (could be a simple remaster also), and so many others could get remakes like FF7.

Recreates: Shorter sequels/prequels/spin-offs to other classic PS IPs like how Infamous First Light / Blood Festival (BF was a highly underrated vampire game) and Uncharted Lost Legacy. Give spin-offs to things like Heavenly Sword, The Order 1886 (1786 or 1986), Puppeteer, Tokyo Jungle, and more.

ABizzel1699d ago (Edited 699d ago )

This is also why Sone NEEDS to get PS3 emulation up and running. It gets rid of all the PS3 server farms and replaces it with software that can work on EVERY future PS console with updated coding.

At bare minimum emulation could double the resolution and framerates of all PS3 games making many of them 1440p@60fps without any real work, and a few 4k@60fps.

As for full-on remakes again updating to 4K@60fps with completely revamped textures, and an option for 1440p@60fps with global illumination can make these games shine with a new lease on life.

Also I'm still waiting on my DriveClub 1440p@60fps update 😭

ChiefofLoliPolice699d ago

Apocalypse was actually pretty good i don't think that's what killed the series. PR was the best though.

I was late to PS3 and Pacific Rift was the first game I picked up on it... huge miss to not have one on PS4, hope it gets some love on PS5 (as well as Ridge Racer and Wipeout).

akurtz700d ago

Only driving game i enjoyed.

darkrider700d ago

Really cool franchise. It's shame it ended

RosweeSon700d ago

Never really got into it myself I remember getting it with ps3 and being a bit underwhelmed I preferred the RC version they did for vita 🙌🏻🤣

EvertonFC700d ago

Going from ps2 to ps3 was not underwhelming when I first played motorstorm, it was like nothing we'd ever seen before ?

RosweeSon699d ago (Edited 699d ago )

Each to their own didn’t like it myself. 🤷🏻‍♂️✌🏻 ;I didn’t say going from ps2/3 was underwhelming just the launch game motorstorm, bit different but hey ho.

PS3 was a slow burner for me it’s my least favourite Sony console, maybe as I had my 360 as my main at that point but yeah wasn’t impressed with first couple of years to be honest but that’s just me. Once uncharted MGS4 GT5 Last of us GTA4/5 dropped sure but launch games weren’t all that imo. Resistance was alright wasn’t as big a change as ps4 or even now ps5 for me. PS3 took out rumble and basically went HD it’s wasn’t exactly a revolutionary start. 🤷🏻‍♂️✌🏻 ;

MotorStorm - 15 Years as PlayStation's Finest Arcade Racer

MotorStorm debuted on PlayStation 3 15 years ago today (in Europe), and remains one of the format's best alternative racing games.

wolf581750d ago (Edited 750d ago )

Ahhh motorstorm....i still have the reveal trailer back in my mind from e3 2006 or 5 i think...ps3 never manage to par the gameplay trailer back then but the game especially the first one for me was AWESOME....I m sure that ps5 is capable to give us now this kind of fidelity....for me motorstorm and daytona usa 2 in arcades still is my favorites arcade racer ever....

nevin1750d ago

Pacific Rift still looks good graphically speaking.

I also thought Artic Edge(PSP) was solid.

franwex750d ago

I own the game on PS3, but I still play the demo to this day.

Fishy Fingers750d ago

Bought the 60gb PS3 with motorstorm and my first 720p/1080i TV on the release day, great memories. Oh the mud!

Real shame this franchise fell by the wayside. With todays tech it would/could be such a great open world arcade racer.

darthv72749d ago

I got the 80gb Motorstorm bundle. Still have it. I still play Apocalypse on my 3D display.

Newmanator749d ago

The wet mud effects used to tickle my pickle for sure.

Chaos_Order750d ago (Edited 750d ago )

The first Motorstorm was good, but Pacific Rift blew it out of the water IMO. Still one of my favourite arcade racing games of all time. I also really liked Apocalypse, despite the Supercars and Superbikes being OP compared with the other vehicle classes.
