The Best Sniper Rifle In Any FPS

As warped and twisted as gamers hands had become trying to grasp the slippery feel of the PS3 Dual Shock, and as much as our confused fingers end up resembling a plate of fat spaghetti, as we search for purchase on the triggers, once you're looking down the sights of this bad boy it all becomes clear.

If you're going for control, this one does something new so I guess it could be the best, But if you're going for power or accuracy, that's a whole different story.

FerretWithASpork5906d ago (Edited 5906d ago )

Horribly short article. It's got a good purpose behind it, but it lacks a lot of info. Pretty much the author used three paragraphs to tell us "The sniper rifle in Killzone 2 is controlled using the six-axis... Pretty cool!"

Also the text is riddled with 'ten dollar words' which make it a nightmare to read. You may think it makes you sound smart to use phrases like "with their suppurating pustule rubber buttons" but it doesn't, it just makes it annoyingly overcomplicated. Keep it simple stupid.

As for discussion of the topic of the article: I haven't played Killzone 2, nor 1 for that matter, but that one feature alone makes me want to go rent it. That seems like a great little detail that would add loads of fun and accuracy to Sniping. I'm a huge PC FPS fan, but when it comes to FPS on Consoles it makes me want to tear the circuit board out and smash it over the head of the developers. Thumb sticks just weren't made for pinpoint accuracy and speed of control like a mouse allows for.

EDIT: Totally didn't mean this as a reply to the first commenter but oh well. Chalk it up to an oops.

Bnet3435906d ago

lol now we're down to best sniper rifle? it just doesn't end does it.

ThanatosDMC5906d ago

We had an article similar to this one before. I'm reporting it as... umm... duplicate? or lame? Hmmm....

deeznuts5906d ago

Tribes!

Loved that game. Got me into PCs (so I could play better) over 10 years ago.

Agent VX5906d ago

I have to go with the sniper rifle in the first "Unreal Tournament".

Headshots FTW!!!

evrfighter5906d ago

Best sniper rifle...

All I have to say is "BOOM HEADSHOT!!!" and most of you will know exactly what sniper rifle I'm talking about. Ya that sniper rifle was the base of a trend some years back. No comparison

If your among the best in the world with that particular rifle you'd have your own personal online entourage via irc. So again, No comparison.

KruLLit5906d ago

The scout in Counter-Strike.

Viper75906d ago

My personal faivorite would be 50 CAL rifle from Far cry2. Its just satisfying to pull out 1 hit kills while hiding everywhere you can.

table5906d ago (Edited 5906d ago )

call of duty 4 has by far the best sniper rifles i have used. Couldn't hit a barn door with the killzone2 sniper.

Tito Jackson5906d ago

Completely agree. It will always be a opinion based decision---but the Wii has motion control for its games, which is "new", and yet while its the BEST IN SALES, most people wouldnt consider it the BEST CONSOLE. <---even though its kind of hard to argue with, when the fanboys have the #2 & #3 console in the market, lol.

TiLL i DiE5906d ago

cranium

actually, i guess you haven't played KZ2 because this is a one shot sniper, it also balances accuracy with time. for instance if you shoot one bullet off to someone in the other end of the map, it will kill them unless they move quickly enough, in any other game, the bullet travels faster than light. if they're close enough, you can get a good easy kill without the distance effect.

Killjoy30005906d ago

I agree. This is by far the most reliable sniper I've ever used. Here are my top 5.

1. VC32 Sniper Rifle - Killzone 2
2. M21 - CoD4
3. Fareye - Resistance 1 & 2
4. UT3 Sniper
5. VSS Silenced Sniper Rifle - Battlefield: Bad Company

otherZinc5905d ago

Imo its Halo's sniper rifle with the double scope.

Stubacca5905d ago

I've thought it was the best FPS sniper I've ever used, since I first got the game.

Cracking weapon that makes great use of the tilt controllers. Allows for much more accuracy without a mouse. I also liked the sniper rifles available in MGO. And (although not an FPS), Resident Evil 5.

Killzone 2 is so much fun.

cleanhealthy125905d ago

1- Fareye - RFoM (NOT R2, in R2 the aim assist is so strong its a nub weapon)
2- M40A3 (COD 4)
3- Halo Battle rifle
4- UT Sniper
5- AWP CSS

henoktemnewo5905d ago

actually if u think about it, when u play killzone, the sensitivity is not that good so for example, your moving the right stick 2 the right and u stop, the gun will stop moving like 1 second after so that makes sniping a little harder 4 some ppl (not me, im experienced :))
like cod4 sniper guns are a good example for power or accuracy.....

Shepherd 2145905d ago

i wouldnt say Killzone 2's sniper is the best. Props to Guerrilla Games for doing something innovative, but i dont like anything motion controlled for my games. Not saying its a bad idea, its probably very realistic feeling and fun to use, but i just dont like motion controls for video games.

i really love the sniper from the first Gears of War. I also enjoy Halo 3's sniper rifle, but i admit the Halo sniper is very simple in terms of how you use it.

I also cant stand COD4 sniping. All you do is aim in the general direction of your enemy and starting mashing your trigger over and over because most COD4 snipers are semi-auto, its too easy.

Raptors5905d ago

...I haven't heard anyone mention the .50 cal from COD4. My personal favorite.

Killjoy30005905d ago

Last time I checked the M40A3 was not only the most accurate gun in CoD4 but the most powerful smetimes with stopping power. I think I got more one-hit kills with that weapon than any other gun in the game. Talk about nooby.

And I can garuntee I've played more CoD4 than anybody on this article.

I like the sniper rifle in Killzone 2. Not only can you use motion sensor to fine tune your aiming, but its always a one shot one kill. Unlike other games where I have to put multiple bullets into someone then to have them regenerate health and spray me full of lead with their automatic.

cranium5906d ago

...Unless you're sniping an assault. I'm not sure, but I swear that it took 3 shots to take down 1 assault one time.

Max Power5906d ago

takes two sniper rounds, due to the high armor, the first round takes the initial bar away and the second of course finishes the job.

cranium5906d ago

The health regenerated could get them the tiny bit of health required to endure one more shot.

raptorjacob5905d ago

killzone 2 has been the only game i have really enjoyed being a sniper. but sometimes it takes 2 or 3 shots to take down people (i think its the guys that build turrets or something) i could be wrong about who it is.

DragonWarrior_45906d ago

Yeah, ur right, but thats just with that one class. Every other class is a one shot one kill. Even if you shoot them in the toe.

DreamcastFanboy5906d ago

I really like Warhawk's Sniper rifle it just feels so satisfying to kill someone with it.

El_Colombiano5906d ago

Because it is so damned difficult to hit somebody!

ThanatosDMC5906d ago

Even more satisfying if you shoot down a Warhawk from far far away when it's flying.

Also, it's easy to snipe at the flags where people spawn, especially heavily defended bases with rocket carrying infantry guarding the flag.

nightelfmohawk5906d ago

I love how you have to hold the controller still when zoomed in with the SR, or your rifle starts swinging wide of its mark.

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX233d ago (Edited 233d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne233d ago (Edited 233d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro233d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken233d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown233d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72233d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken233d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya233d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast233d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood233d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro462d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72462d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_462d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga462d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos462d ago (Edited 462d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23462d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000462d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin462d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole462d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix462d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989462d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor462d ago (Edited 462d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

462d ago
Michiel1989462d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor767d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar767d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg766d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149766d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138766d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim766d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC766d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138766d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle766d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76766d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM766d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730766d ago (Edited 766d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger766d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca766d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy766d ago (Edited 766d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain766d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright766d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
