If you're a consumer w/ a 360 that has a harddrive and your 360 fails on you, you can send it in the coffin to MS for a replacement.

Of course, if your warranty expired already, chances are you probably don't want to fork in money for a refurb. Most likely you're betting your chances on a new $199 arcade model since you have a harddrive already anyway, and hoping it's a newer revision.

E74 is an issue an issue in general. Now on my 5th 360 - this being my second HALO edition - it's bad for business that MS hasn't even addressed the matter publicly. It's like European PS3 sales to them. They hope they can wave some DLC and no one will pay any attention to it. I think the public is reaching the point of tolerance and with 2009 on the PS3 shaping up to be the best year for any console ever there is almost nothing MS can do except wave a white flag.

I myself have been through multiple hardware failures with the 360. I currently own 3 in my home and have purchased a total of 5. If you check my posting history you will see I almost never respond to these articles but I do read them all. Why? Because I think MS got away with murder with their hardware by the media and their fan base / consumers.

Well things are like they are because some of us came to this site and tried to have honest debates. I tried to disapprove articles that were incorrect no matter what side they supported. But finally it became ridiculous to do so. On my 5th 360 and the PS3 beginning to flex it's technical muscles I decided to back the console that possesses the superior hardware. Why? Because I want the superior experience.

360 fans pulled out the stops and are willing to do anything to bring Sony down. Look at the crap Gametrailers pulled time and again. I wouldn't stand by and watch myself as a gamer be robbed of the offerings that a supported superior piece of hardware could bring.

Just because the 360 fans are underhanded, PS3 supporters cannot afford to be any less ruthless. Personally I won't quit until the 360 is a smoking heap of rubble. I think that claiming Microsoft is purposely shifting the error codes to avoid the 3 year warranty is a bit of a stretch. The article didn't have any hard-pressing evidence to support that.

Price of the 360, extra controller, wi-fi, charge and play kit, more battery packs when these die, 2 years XBL before I started using PSN and cancelled it, extended warranty. All that has cost me over $900 now, not even counting the $340 Microsoft charged me for repairs. I guess after a year they did eventually credit that money back to me...but only after a long fight and many...many lost hours on the phone with their "support".

E75 covered by a 1 year warranty after that you pay $100 for repairs

Uses DVD's to limit the size of multi platform games so they can buy DLC that is only available on xbox live which you also have to pay for.

People need to know how badly built the 360 is. Too bad it's not on tv and newspapers which would really put pressure on MS to redesign it but then why do that when people support them anyways and the mainstream media ignores the problem. I had a 360 also too, no problems for almost a year and half, until updating to the NXE, and two to three months later, it gives me the dreaded e74 error. I called and was asked to pay 100 dollars for repairs, so I just called it quits, sold my games and stick with my ps3. I loved my 360, but until they come clean with their issues and lower the price down to what it is in terms of quality value, meaning around 150 dollars, I just have to sit on the bench with Microsoft.

RROD was a discrace. Everyone I know who has one of the first 360 consoles (anything that dosent have a HDMI port) has had rrod.

None of us have had this E74 error yet. Actually no one I know of has had it (around 16 people with 360`s). I dont think its as wide spread as some news/blogs sites are making out to be.

Seems to be similar to the whole PS3 yellow light failure when some people upgraded there firmware. Prob happeneds to 1 in 10,000 consoles but the fanboys jump on board and blow it out to be some big thing.

RROD in my opinion now outranks Sonys PS2 disc drive failure rates by a long shot now and is the biggest piece of crap launch hardware in the history of gaming with an almost 100% failure rate for those first model consoles. Anyone who buys a 2nd hand 360 without the HDMI port needs there head read.
