Geneforge Goes Universal, Adds 32-bit Color

Spiderweb Software has announced the release of Version 1.2 of Geneforge, the first title in the popular fantasy RPG series. The latest patch is a Universal Binary version of the game and includes 32 bit color, making it compatible with modern Macs.

Geneforge is our fantasy role-playing game with a science fiction twist. In Geneforge, you are free to choose what your overall goal is, and you can seek after it with your own horde of deadly, mutant monsters.

The Monster Mash: Geneforge Saga

Adam Smith: On one level, this post exists to inform of a fantastic deal on that thar Steam, however it’s also the first time we’ve mentioned that the games in question have appeared on Steam at all. They are the Geneforge Saga, five RPGs created by Spiderweb Software between 2002 and 2008, although they feel as if they could have been made between 1992 and 1998, with their turn-based combat, isometric graphics and enormous amounts of questing and freedom. The Geneforge world combines traditional fantasy tropes with monster-making, leading to all sorts of choices and ethical dilemmas. Steam is currently offering these five massive RPGs for £8.49. There are also sizable demos over at Spiderweb’s site.

DIYGamer: Spiderweb Software are notable for two things. Primarily being an incredibly prolific indie RPG studio, churning out a huge number of classic, turn-based roleplaying romps. Secondly, pricing these many games with a dedicated, niche audience in mind. Well, that latter point has changed today, as the five critically acclaimed Geneforge games land on Steam today as a bundle with a shared price-tag of $20, reduced to $16 until the 9th.
