Andrew Weymes of The Nightly Gamer writes: "The Playstation 3 certainly has an impressive library of games but one problem it has had since launch is a very limited RPG line-up. Compared to the Xbox 360, the Playstation 3 doesn't have many RPGs that appeal to the broad audience that Mass Effect or Star Ocean: The Last Hope does. Instead, the Playstation 3 has been home to a couple of exclusive niche titles such as Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles. Adding to the trend of niche titles on the PS3 is Demon's Souls by From Software. It's certainly an enjoyable game but it's doubtful that it's going to appeal to average gamers or even casual RPG fans. After playing through several hours of Demon's Souls, The Nightly Gamer has formed an opinion on the anticipated PS3 exclusive."
Here is a look at all the confirmed PlayStation 5 Pro-enhanced game that are know of so far, featuring first-party games, and more.
Did I read this right that some of the partners will release free updates so others might charge for it? This level of greed is getting absurd. Many games got paid next generation update so I guess now that’s a thing
In my personal opinion
I see NOOOOOOOOOO difference in graphics comparing it to regular PS5 graphics...I'll pass until PS6
I didn’t watch the reveal, but expected ~100 games on that list. There are only 14 titles?
WTH were they thinking?
PlayStation's Back to School sale includes big discounts on a bunch of PS5 exclusives, including Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
With so many PS5 exclusives to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming to pick which one to play. This is especially true for a new PlayStation gamer who has yet to experience the wonder of PlayStation-exclusive storytelling. So, here's KnowTechie's take on the best PS5 exclusives in 2024 and beyond
PlayStation is killing it with the exclusives this year. Exclusive wise, what has xbox released this year?
Returnal, Astro Bot, and Ratchet made having it since day one worth it.
GT7 free updates and Spiderman 2 and others at 60fps have made this last year more than okay.
But yeah, it’s been dry lately. BG3 and third party have made great filler, but we ready for that SOCOM or Killzone announcement and some more 1st party goodness. Crossing fingers for Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement this summer.
Didn’t know Helldivers was exclusive! Wtf is going on at Xbox that they can’t get these games, series s strikes again.
Looks like they are on par with the previous gens. Solid games all around. Interestingly enough, we can't say they released a bad game yet this gen. Unlike the Quiet Man dustup.
I actually do not mind if Marathon releases on multiple platforms . I just wish that Marathon has a dedicated single player campaign.
That game was golden, according to your standards. By the preponderance of other reviewers, the game was incredibly stale and formulaic.
The fact that Demon's Souls sold over half as much as Star Ocean 4 in Japan with no advertising with a SEVERELY underestimated supply/ demand says something. It also charted for 5 or 6 weeks compared to Star Ocean's 4's three week run.
The problem with being a reviewer is that you set a measurement for how other games in the same genre are to be judged in the future. It's alright that this game isn't your cup of tea, but I disagree with your assertion that Star Ocean 4 was somehow better (especially not having played Demon's Souls myself yet, upon which to form an opinion).
P.S. Demon's Souls is a complete fan-service (and made by the same designers, I believe) to the Kingsfield series. If you never played/ enjoyed those games, you probably won't like this.
@below. Yes but the title of your Star Ocean review says it all: "Square Enix Redeem Themselves with Star Ocean: The Last Hope". That's a pretty strong statement. A lot of gamers would disagree with you, they didn't redeem themselves at all. They finally made a PASSABLE not EXEMPLARY game, nowhere near the standards and quality that we remember from the companies golden years (before the merger, really). Oh, and I'm pretty sure that you failed to mention the disc-swapping issue, which is a pretty big technical flaw by anyone's approximation. Lost Odyssey and even recent mutli-disc SE games didn't possess this flaw. I don't mind multi-disc games, but in a title as secrets and side-quest oriented as SO4, that's a fairly ugly technical hiccup to have.
Oh, and I agree with you on the "appeal" factor. With the exception of FFXIII, I - sadly, as it's one of my favorite genres - don't see any JRPG having the same appeal/ marketing/ sales as Western RPGs.
EDIT: None of this is an attack on you, I like your articles and they usually provoke interesting discussion/ debate. Better than HHG for sure :)
Mr. Weymes, why do you always write these rants and try to pass it off as news on N(news)4G? Shouldn't you just post your rants on a forum or something?
@ Weymes
I agree with the reaper lad, you always defend your position with composure and that is a refreshing trait around here. Thanks for that synopsis on the game, it's more detailed than any article I've managed to find about Demons Souls so far and I can see what you mean about it not being for everyone.
well this game has amazing legs on the Japanese charts....
all i have to say is this game is amazing and tough as hell at some points to play. i love the online feature as well. when people die their blood stains leave hints for you. you also see glimpses of people in the same world as you.
